Bartz is 20, close enough? Cloud is 21

not sure about Maxim, but he's a married man.

Japan is very youth centric. Most are 13 to 16 and won't find many protagonists above 28.

Nier

Nier western release swapped out the under 18, youthful protagonist for a grizzled old grandpa to appeal over here.

but they didn't rewrite dialogues so it is completely worthless and shit

Alright? Shit man, the thread asked for JRPGs with protagonists over the the age of 21.

Get that stick up your ass to loosen up a bit.

dq8 hero is 20 and has a job

Vagrant Story.

Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean 1-2, Tactics/Ogre Battle, a few Tales games, Shiren, Radiant Historia.

Sega is actually really good on this department, their protags are almost all adults. Shining Force, Phantasy Star, Yakuza, and Valkyria Chronicles, well, if you count the ones that matter. The RPGs they had which had a teen doesn't devolve into teen drama and coming-of-age theme, either.
