They should put FF1 up as one of the titles available to play with NSO on the Switch. It's actually one of the better NES games.

Just keep 2+ nonidentical saves so that you don't get stuck in "dungeons", that boss can be obliterated with at least 2 failproof strategies if you don't get stuck there
