Resident Evil 1

I want to get into the RE series, starting with 1. Should I play the original or the GC Remake?

REmake without question. Play the original whenevr you feel like it.

Just play remake 2 and re7, all others are shit.

Remake is pretty much a straight upgrade of the original with everything intact and more added on top unlike 2 remake

If you're only going to play one of them, play REmake. You should play both though.

Both. If you don't feel like playing it four times, then play the original as Jill and play REmake as Chris.

Play original 1 dumb zoomer.

Play remake, then play original for its charm. but make sure its original and not dualshock/directors cuts.

t. zoomer

Had a similar question, how's the DS port?

Mahogany floor vs carpet, nice

Remakes boring and has shit music.

None of the code from the original game was used in either remake. Both games are entirely new.

See this is why I hate REmake, where did all the light and color go? Looks so bland

>all the footage I've seen of the HD port of REmake is this zoomed in pan and scan cropped shit
Literally what is wrong with normalfags?

Unlike Resident Evil 2 remake, RE1 Remake kind of straight up the same game, with the same feel, camera view, game play.
In my opinion RE1 remake does replace the original game, so go for the remake.

But when you get to RE2, do play both, the original and the remake!

Also, I am sorry for the shill, but it's just so relevant. Everyone who played classic RE games will understand the sometimes awkward camera and controls.

youtu.be/BLjKr1AEMnU

Remake. Play the original RE2 before the RE2-remake however since it's essentially a completely different game.

This is so fucking stupid. No one take this shit-tacular advice

Fpbp

Why the GC Remake? Play the Steam version. Don't wanna buy it? Just pirate.

people i hear are kinda mixed but its the most complete package of the OG RE1, has quick turning around and knife on a trigger like RE4/5.

you can touch your character's butt so its the best version

There are actually retards ITT that feel the need to be so contrarian that they are shitting on easily the best remake to any game.

Never ceases to amaze me

REmake is soulless, it removes all colors and makes it gray

(you)

REmake is garbage compared to the original. Literally soulless.

The remaster isn't good

Excellent game for easing yourself into the RE gameplay (more ammo and health).

Right?

The bright and cartoony look definitely helps the creepy horror atmosphere much more than the dramatic shadows and intricate details of the remake.

Buzzwords dont make a very strong opinion user.

REmake is literally the best game in the series. The original RE1 is alright, but not as good as 2 and 3.

And you know nothing about color theory

it has more enemies though. i don't remember there being crows all over the damn place and crows are awful. the always on map is great though.

(You)

It's the definitive version of the original non-remake Resident Evil 1.

S'okay, it has auto aiming for the crows.

But you can't mod naked Jill in the GC version.

Play the original first. You'll appreciate the changes and additions done on REmake.

REmake, get the XBone, PC or PS4 version for a better experience. The main series RE games are usually good (except 5 and 6), but the best place to start is REmake.

REmake
RE2 and RE3 (3 was a spinoff of 2 and takes place at the same time)
RE:CV
RE4

Zero is alright.

I am a big RE faggot and one thing I liked about Gamecube was the fact I could get all the main RE games on one platform.

What is the webm even trying to show? Left clearly looks better. Blah blah blah, no atmosphere... that would hurt the eyes after some time.

Change in aspect ratio it looks like. They honestly should have made the game a proper 16:9 game rather than cropping a 4:3 image to 16:9

the best strat is to use a knife and wait for them to dive. no need to waste ammo.

I think you have the choice of playing in 4:3 or 16:9

Both, they're like 5 hour games each.

If I were interested in downloading ROMs of the original 3, where would I start? Can I use an xbox controller on an emulated psx game?

I see, but you still can play it in 4:3.

They fucked up the lighting retards

>Can I use an xbox controller on an emulated psx game?

How new to emulation are you? Of course you can.

Play REmake then play the director's cut for kino horror music

Looks fine to me. The PC version looks better most of the time
youtube.com/watch?v=-jvYaUEu8SM

Director's Cut has normal music, it's the dualshock edition that has the fucked up music.

Play the original long box ps1 version. After that, the Saturn version. Then play the PS1 Director's Cut, followed by the Dual Shock version with the funny music. Then play the DS version. Then REmake on gamecube, followed by REmake on PC.

You say this cause you haven't played the ganecube original

- removed most of the animated backgrounds and replaced them with static ones
- fucked up shadows (they dont match the light sources)
- increased contrast so everything is too dark and too bright (crushed blacks+whites) so a lot of details got lost in background

Attached: 1547488579437.webm (1856x704, 2.93M)

True the default HD release is a bit shit, but you can mod the fuck out of the PC version now

AI upscaled backgrounds, Jill's blue uniform, bug fixes, etc

Left clearly looks way better. Right has washed colors.

>but the shadows don't work properly!

They've lost the original assets of the game and couldn't render the backgrounds again. They had to upscale everything to fit 1080p. Some scenes are awful. RE0 looks gorgeous tho.

stupid japs

>AI upscaled backgrounds, Jill's blue uniform
Mods can't save it especially if they are this little

Coping steam drone

Attached: 1547422488469.webm (1856x704, 2.75M)

Play the original. It's not even 2 hours long.

it's way longer than that...

>no arguments left
>cópin
>keep spamming webm

I prefer how the left one looks. It's a shame that the shadows are nowhere near as good as the one on the right.

damn. i never noticed the lighting was changed when i played.
makes me wanna plug in the gamecube fort next playthroughh

user, I'm sorry. I don't know what to tell you. You're shit at video games. I know you don't want to hear this, but you have to find out sometime.

Attached: 1452919180767.jpg (500x500, 63K)

If you go with REmake, at least go watch the shitty FMV opening and look up the memorable lines from the original.

>no arguments left

Nigger i have video proof remaster is shit and your only response is DURR I LIKE REMASTER BETTER HURR

Attached: 1547422583842.webm (1856x704, 2.85M)

REmake but RE1 is still good in a campy B-movie way.

Attached: re1_cast.webm (640x480, 2.2M)

>it's 2 hours if you already know everything about it and run through
>is replying to someone that clearly has never played it
maybe think next time retard

Besides the washed colors, low definition models, there's the anti-aliasing problem. Cool.

I have a theory, some people don't care that the original is more colourful and that doesn't make it a worse game

incoming post how he beat it in 2hrs and if you didnt then lolviddygame srs biznes ubad

REremake but definitely play original RE2. RE2:RE is good but original still holds up very well compared to original RE1

Also, probably 30fps.

accompanied with an epic rxn image culminating in a post about how they were merely pretending the entire time

You should play both but REmake is a technical marvel just by how faithful to the original it is.
The two can basically substitute each other for the most part and you will be playing the exact same game save for these differences.

RE1 takes place in a perfectly normal house, REmake goes full retard with generic horror

REmake's difficulty curve is padded out more with defensive items and a couple new enemy gimmicks; also new game modes

REmake's mansion is more expansive, with more areas to explore, but all rooms from OG RE1 are present, save for a few alterations and the art style change

REmake incorporates some cut content left out of RE1 involving some side characters that add context to the setting

REmake lacks the signature so bad-it's good voice acting and script RE1 is famous for
REmake's soundtrack is a higher definition arrangement of the RE1 score basically entirely faithful to the OG Playstation version. The "Dualshock Edition" of RE1's director's cut has a totally different soundtrack from the original releases that carried over to REmake.

All sequences from RE1 carry over to the remake but in a totally different arrangement; Playing either game will be a fresh experience

I always get called casual for saying this, but I don't like Crimson Heads

Attached: unknown.png (245x271, 78K)

HD Remake, REmake 2, then 3 and 4. Skip 5 and 6 and go on to 7.

Honestly, the original setting was a more interesting juxtaposition to the zombies and plot.

this but play OG 2 instead and then 5 on PC with all the updates and fixes.

this but ignore his post entirely and play both re2s and ignore 5 entirely

I bet people were pretty surprised when they
started moving between rooms

Why are japs obsessed with blood types?

Faggot, bright colours and the vanishing of the faded and cool aesthetics are the cancer that make all modern games look like shit. RE2 bucked the trend and looked amazing.

Like from a game design perspective or you are just scared of them?

>Being this retarded

There's room for both

>how new are you to emulation
Isnt it obvious?

You shouldn't play 5 on PC, what you should play 5 on is nothing at all

>skip 5
skip this post

Just do the original to get the vibe of what it was like.

Fuck the first set of remasters from console to pc were all shit, I'm thinking about silent hill 2.

there's an old wives tale that was popular in japan about blood types corresponding to different personalities. nobody really believes it any more but the tradition of giving characters blood types has stuck around

The PC version of REmake is the same as the PS4/Xbox version

Please don't listen to this idiot. REmake is far better as the second playthrough because it's made for fans of the original.

These games take less than 5 hours to play. You have time for both.

play RE1 first
then play REmake
then play RE1 arrange mode
then play both modes on the DS version

voila, you have gotten all you can out of RE1

The HD remaster of REmake broke almost all the animated background effects and removed the tv filter afaik.
Swaying trees and rain are pretty much gone in the PC/PS4/XBone release

REmake replaces the original. There is no reason to go back and play RE1 now that REmake exists beside just the sheer curiosity. REmake is the ultimate remake because it's a direct improvement across the board, the music is better, the visuals are better, the gameplay is better, the level design is better, it's better at establishing an atmosphere, crimson heads create a constant feeling of dread, it does a better job being Resident Evil 1 than Resident Evil 1 was.

The key reason REmake works so well was the fact that RE1 was so imperfect to begin with. RE1 was an innovative game but the game itself was pretty shoddy and crudely executed, you get the idea there could have been a great game there but you'd have to tilt your head and squint a bit to see it. Meanwhile REmake brought that vision to life. It executed perfectly what RE1 failed to deliver the first time around, a feat no other remake has truly accomplished. REmake2 doesn't replace the original, it's its own game, it's own RE2, but it isn't the original RE2 made right, it's a re-imagining using modern sensibilities of game design producing a game that is fundamentally different from the original and as such can never truly be a replacement like REmake was to RE1.

>There is no reason to go back and play RE1 now that REmake exists beside just the sheer curiosity.
They are completely different games. This is a stupid post.

The game looks immaculate on a CRT, it looks like horseshit on LCD and on the remaster. That alone should be enough reason to never play this on anything but a gamecube.

>They are completely different games.
No.

you're wrong though and here's why
>REmake replaces the original.
wrong
>There is no reason to go back and play RE1 now that REmake exists beside just the sheer curiosity.
wrong as well because REmake is made better by playing RE1 first
>REmake is the ultimate remake
wrong
>it's a direct improvement across the board
also wrong
>the music is better, the visuals are better
there are dualshock tracks that shit hard on REmake's tracks
>the gameplay is better
the opposite actually
> the level design is better
wrong
>it's better at establishing an atmosphere
surprisingly not as wrong as the others but also wrong
>crimson heads create a constant feeling of dread
if you're fucking 10
> it does a better job being Resident Evil 1 than Resident Evil 1 was
still wrong
>The key reason REmake works so well was the fact that RE1 was so imperfect to begin with. RE1 was an innovative game but the game itself was pretty shoddy and crudely executed, you get the idea there could have been a great game there but you'd have to tilt your head and squint a bit to see it. Meanwhile REmake brought that vision to life. It executed perfectly what RE1 failed to deliver the first time around, a feat no other remake has truly accomplished
absolutely wrong
>REmake2 doesn't replace the original, it's its own game, it's own RE2, but it isn't the original RE2 made right, it's a re-imagining using modern sensibilities of game design producing a game that is fundamentally different from the original
you're finally right about something! congrats

No one who has played REmake and RE1 think they are even remotely the same game.

I see you never played the original game. I don't blame you though, it is shit.

I have absolutely played the original game
I've played the original, director's cut, director's cut dualshock edition, AND deadly silence!

So if they're not completely different games that means they're identical in your mind? Boy, it must be hard being a retard like you.

You need to end your worthless existence at once.

So you admit you were wrong. That was easy. Winning this argument was utterly effortless.

but user, you're wrong again! stop being wrong, user!

>So if they're not completely different games that means they're identical in your mind?
...no, in fact my argument is quite the opposite: because they're so different, both games should be played. I know reading comprehension is a tough skill, champ, but get it together. I'm not even posting large quantities of text.

>wrong

>...no, in fact my argument is quite the opposite:
Sorry dummy, that's not the argument you made. In fact you're taking my nuanced arguments as your own now and coming to a different conclusion. I invite you to look back on your posts and in shame. Sad.

The world isn't black and white, there are degrees that things can be similar and dissimilar, both the positions you expounded that they were the same and not the same are at polar ends of that spectrum but both completely incongruent with reality. My argument was never the game were identical but you seemed to think that was the case, likewise your assertion that they are completely different is utterly retarded. Don't waste my time if you have nothing intelligent or substantive to add to the discussion.

Play both.
Start with original, and play rest of the series in release order.

Ignore faggots like :
