From your personal point of view are video games getting better?
And why?
From your personal point of view are video games getting better?
18 year old here, the fact that a 20 year old game like FF6 blew me away when i first played it proves just how shit games today really are
Gameplay is getting better, but ability to surprise and impress has declined.
or maybe that you have the taste of a 48 year old dirt bag
I've reached the point where shitty games with soul are more enjoyable than good games.
le wrong generation gang ww@
Doesn't stop me from finding every 90s PC game except Half-Life to be unplayable garbage
it means you liked a game user.
you don't have to spin some narrative that stretches beyond your experience to justify it
23 years old. played CV3 the first time about a month ago, one of the best games i've ever played. On average? games are much shittier than their older counter parts caused entirely by a bloated industry, the industry shifting to a money first attitude (the inevitability of every industry once it hits a certain threshold) and games becoming much bigger than they were in their older years. there still are newer games worth playing, typically indie or AA/middle shelf games. the only way to fix this industry as a whole at this point is to have it crash and have it be reborn. which again, is an inevitability when you hit a certain threshold, nothing lasts forever. the current game industry is no different. hang in there anons, great games will be coming en masse (at some point...)
>From your personal point of view are video games getting better?
No.
>And why?
Gameplay is generally getting more and more simplified, streamlined and patronizing.
Most (AAA?) games are all about visual awe with very little real content.
Good art-directing's being overthrown by lazy and gray "muh realism!" memes, made even worse by photo-scanning.
Replay-value has been diminishing each year, as games are being made as disposable, 1-time-use products now, in order to sell the next year's rehash sequel. But not before releasing tons of paid DLC for the current fad title.
Old classic titles are being rebooted and remastered to no end, because making new IPs is clearly too much work, and devs hope that the lingering nostalgia would attract enough oldfags to hype up the newest titles, hopefully capturing newbies' interest too.
34 years old here.
I think they're better on some ways and worse in others.
Better on the visual aspect, technology like the internet allowing you to play with people from around the globe, quality of live improvements and shovelware not being as prominent as it used to be to the point where a new game is always guaranteed to be at the very worst decent.
Worse on games being shorter and smaller on scope than how they used to be, homogenization and writing gaining an importance that doesn't deserve.
i think that games are getting better on average
triple a stuff certainly draws the eye, but i don't think they do a lot to drag down games as a whole — take the whole capcom trying to westernize period as a consequence of them
but all in all, someone can trawl the internet and find games they genuinely enjoy from freeware to bigger games, and that's a lot better than when games were restricted to just a few consoles
26 yr ol here - we've hit a great time. You can replay classics on emulators and more, there's also tons of indie sleeper hits that are excellent. The market is pretty saturated with stuff, but there's a plethora of games to play and I'd say they're the best they've been in awhile.
Sure, I will say the mainstream stuff is pretty lackluster, but there so much that's so easily accessible who cares. Finally getting around to playing Hollow Knight, and it's great. There's plenty of good out there, it's just not going to be on the mainstream scale.
There isn't going to be another video game crash, it's too much of a mainstream entertainment industry consumed by too broad of a demographic at this point.
fuck i meant that 'they're doing a lot to drag down games'
They are getting better.
It's just there's also more trash to sift through compared to the old days.
I would try Hollow Knight but that game has the most insufferable fanbase out there and I'm afraid to become someone like them.
Games feel soulless, I want more exparemental gameplay and hybrid shit

Imagine thinking there’s still gonna be another video game crash
take a history course. NOTHING lasts forever. it will burn, as will every other industry at some point. please note: a crash doesn't mean complete, utter and total annihilation of the industry. it means there will be a severe, sharp decline in purchases and support, which will signal in smaller budgets, big players leaving as a whole and small teams (who are more interested in game development as a passion, rather than for a living)
That is bullshit. The movie industry doesn't crash, the music industry doesn't crash. They will transform accordingly to the spending habits of new generations.
Now the issue at hand is that people will have to learn to where to look for what they want. Just as you don't get good movies from Hollywood and don't expect good movies from them (If anyone says that Marvel movies or anything hollywood makes is good, dear lord) people will have to learn that AAA games/publishers aren't the place that will deliver good games.
Are they? I had no idea. It's a good game, why should anything else matter?
if becoming a shitposter is a tangible risk for you when you play a game, then you sound a bit too insecure to consume fiction in general, user
see
It sucks that you can't consume stuff in a vacuum anymore, but liking a game doesn't make you a member of a fanbase user.
Just pirate it or buy it and try it out a bit before returning it if you don't like it.
>muh fanbase
Unless the game is multiplayer then this isn't even a concern unless you're a fag.
oh yeah, i forgot the movie industry and the music industry is anywhere near as predatory as video games
It's hard to say, there's just so much fucking shit made now that generalizing is extremely difficult. The industry itself has grown into a fucking abomination that puts out exclusively trash and deserves to die, the big jap developers are mostly trash too now. People are praising Capcom but they're just putting out really safe sequels to existing IP's without making anything new or interesting like they used to do in the 90's. It's better than most jap companies for sure but these big long running franchises are only part of what made them great.
And? Do you see the gambling industry crumbling down? Or the alcohol industry? Or the mobile games? It means nothing if they are predatory or what not. Gaming as a hole now has turned into another entertainment industry and it will not crash like it did in America in the 80's mostly because now the industry is a global industry.
The problem is the opportunity to do interesting stuff sits at kind of a middle level of budget, AAA can't afford to get too risqué with it's ambitions because of the sheer amount of money it took to make. Indies can't put the kind of money needed into it.
We need really solid BBB or A budget level games to come back.
>drawing his author self insert as the Zone tentacle
Poor form.
i literally just said to read
i'll post it specifically your retarded ass
> please note: a crash doesn't mean complete, utter and total annihilation of the industry. it means there will be a severe, sharp decline in purchases and support, which will signal in smaller budgets, big players leaving as a whole and small teams (who are more interested in game development as a passion, rather than for a living)
now fuck off you ape
Gambling is illegal in most states you fucking dunce and most states have absolutely totalitarian alcohol laws and regulations. You can't buy a drink or gamble until you're 21, you can buy a vidya gaem whenever you want. I guarantee you, though, once people start catching wind of how you have to basically play slots using real money to get stuff in games then government will step in.
i think that a lot of the people who post about all games getting worse don't actually try to look for any vidya other than what's immediately in front of them
Depends on what you're looking for. Shit games have always been a problem, cones with the territory.
The question is in how much effort you're willing to put in to find good games.
They're mostly casuals that just play AAA trash and are bored of asscreed or whatever.
I think best time was around 2008-2012..everything was cheap because online was new, we had the indie boom, pc and consoles still had different catalogues (which meant more games overall)...
Today it really feels that everything is equal and you need to pretty much make a relatory about any game you want...
