Yea Forums will unironically defend this as good game design.
Yea Forums will unironically defend this as good game design
Lmao just take a knee bro
It is.
The hints you're given are all pretty good.
Chamber of Birth and some of the endgame puzzles however are not good design.
Fuck off the only good hint is the fool one everything else is a level of arbitrary not found anywhere else in the game
Bad translation =/= bad game design.
Why aren't you playing it randomized, Yea Forums?
>only good hint is the fool one
All the hints in the zone are "fool" ones, what are you talking about?
WAIT
I HAVE AN IDEA
OKAY
WHAT IF WE MADE A GAME WHERE YOU CAN GET STUCK UNLESS YOU HIT A VERY SPECIFIC NONDESCRIPT WALL IN A ROOM YOU ONLY EVER HAVE TO VISIT ONE TIME
OKAY WAIT
WHAT IF WE DO THAT BUT SEVERAL TIMES IN A SINGLE GAME
Fuck those two games god damn. I even beat them but they are dog shit dirt. There's a reason I've never heard anyone outside of Yea Forums mention them. They're gross crap.
the one where you hit the light
I didn’t 100% beat 2 but where does this happen?
The dev video specifically said they were removing these puzzles
What game ?
>WHAT IF WE MADE A GAME WHERE YOU CAN GET STUCK UNLESS YOU HIT A VERY SPECIFIC NONDESCRIPT WALL IN A ROOM YOU ONLY EVER HAVE TO VISIT ONE TIME
This never happens.
Boku no find the mantra
Symphony of the Metroid: Hollow of Soul
I guess he's talking about the first one.
It's La-Mulana, don't listen to the baits.
How else are you going to open it?
The tile that can be opened is clearly different, and it's shape matches up with the tablet that shows the light shining on the lizard.
This game is a masterpiece AND it's perfect retard filter. I can immediately not take someone's opinion on games seriously if they dislike it.
No I mean that’s the only well described one.
I’m more talking about the take a knee which cannot be defended.
How were you supposed to know that "Be the little man" meant going back to the mausoleum of the giants and using the little doll in front of any giant statue.
How were you supposed to know "take a knee" meant press down
The three riddles were great, though.
This happens in the Chamber of Birth in the first La-Mulana, as part of the puzzle that gets you inside the "small room" needed to fight Palenque.
And it happens in La-Mulana 2 when you need to find the Moon mantra, but I think they patched it to make that easier
E6 in Takamagahara Shrine
and
F7 in immortal battlefield after you exit from the top of icefire treetops
bonus gift
In la-mulana 1 getting the Life Seal in Chamber of extinction also requires hitting a nondescript wall.
Masterpieces can be critiqued user
>area is called Gate of Illusion
>shocked that it confuses you
damn I gotta play la mulana 2
I loved 1
is 2 good too?
>to search on bent knee for a single fallen item
Breaking that pot ALWAYS drops a single shirken
>迷い
>illusion
メッチャメチャ気になるねぇ〜
It’s better actually but it’s literally the same game
2 is worse overall but still good
I have done a few of those.
I hate the seeds that basically send me to Dimension Corridor or Endless Corridor early on.
None of the Gate of Guidance puzzles are bad, I was able to get through it just fine without a guide.
But I am.
There's tons of pots that drops single item.
Lol, you just used a huge spoiler image and want to call anyone a retarded.
>Surface -> Temple of Moonlight
Damn, what an unfortunate seed.
That drop the same single item 100% of the time?
Does it not lead to a soft lock 90% of the time?
Most randomized do
Has anyone ever made one of these for the sequel?
No, the logic is perfect.
Explain?
And it always leads into the one-way trip to the lava in Inferno Cavern. With a caltrop start.
The logic is made so that softlocks don't happen.
You can't get the origin sigil in a chest that requires the origin sigil to open.
The game randomizer will always generate a winnable seed because it takes account for everything you need in order to access any particular area.
There's rules to the randomization that avoid softlocks
Like, every single randomizer is coded this way which is why most of them end up felling very samey very quickly, because there's certain easily accessible locations that always have something you need and that you always check first, then you just follow the bread crumbs
>tfw this happens to you playing the series
>but then your answer didn't matter because it led to a dead end
>complaining about that one room of Immortal Battlefield
They even added the room to the map for brainlets like you. It was obvious there was something fishy in there and if you don't hit everything to begin with you're setting yourself up for disappointment.
I just checked and you’re right.
Fuck even after beating this game twice it can still make me feel like a total brainlet.
I remove my criticism
There's not a single pot that drops a single item in the whole game except that one. Feel free to prove me wrong because you can't.
wasn't there when I beat it.
FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK IT WAS THAT EASY
2 is fantastic. loved playing it blind for 60 hrs up until one area where i felt like an idiot trying to figure it out. that fukkin place man
el monsteramundo
I thought "take a knee" was pretty obvious and I'm an ESL
>tfw my laptop can’t run 2 at anything over 15 FPS.
Fuck unity.
I’m waiting for the psn port
They're prioritizing getting the console ports done before fixing game breaking bugs so it might be out soon™
Where's the randomizer for 2?
thanks user
I refuse to play 2 with a guide
I used it in the chamber of birth for one puzzle, and for the knee one in chamber of illusion
felt like I ruined my walkthrough
>we want to make a metroidvania which will make you feel like a true archeologist exploring gigantic ruins, solving actual riddles, getting treasures, fighting bosses and learning about ancient civilizations
>HOW FUCKING DARE THEY MAKE SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES ME TO THINK?????11111!!111 THIS IS THE DARK SOULS OF X *onions intensifies*
LM2 was a bit of a disappointment and I still sank like 30 hours into it and enjoyed the shit out of both games. Kill yourself if you think La Mulana is a bad series, you are the cancer killing video games.
I can't beat Viy.
I read the tablet twice because I'm a fucking idiot & didn't realise what it did until later and I'm too far in to restart.
I guess It's time to grind out more pistol ammo
Jesus fuck though, fix this shit.
Literally not that hard
Spoilering just in case since there are others playing the game here, La Mulana 2 spoilers.
What was your reaction to this fucking puzzle? When I got the battery I thought I was more than ready to get this, then get the lamp and be on my way to solve shit but things weren't as easy as they looked.
Then realizing what the game wanted you to do and why the solution was what it was was something mindblowing.
>I refuse to play 2 with a guide
You're going to have a fucking grand ol' time in the Underworld, I guarantee you that much. Gate of Birth was bullshit but the Underworld and the overreliance on mantra shit in 2 pissed me off more.
I'm ready to get my ass in flames, will try 2 this week
I don't even remember this puzzle, I think I sequence broke the room upstairs by abusing the jump mechanics.
>That last few hours of 2
What the fuck went wrong?
The game was rushed, only worked on by three people, and only barely had enough money from the kickstarter campaign. The idea of reusing that area from 1 was cool but it really shows that they shipped it early, probably because they felt bad about delaying it further.
I solved it, but used the wrong thought process to do so.
I used the lore about the third children spiriting away a member of the first children to gain their knowledge, and figured there must be a passage between their two zones. Then I found the exact location with the upgraded map software
but then I hadn't yet checked the tablet that gives the mantra combination to actually open the path, so I was stuck again until I found that
The infernal fiend bites into the neck of the colossal dragon. Thus binding the two together.
It really felt rushed. They've been fixing things since it came out but seeing each patch add bugs that completely stop your progress is disheartening.
A really good "Holy shit I finally understand it" or something you brute force and never understand until someone explains it moment.
Shovelware series with terrible game design. But, of course, the spergs who beat the game with a guide gonna defend it because they think it makes them look good.
That's actually impossible.
You use to be able to do that for a similar shaped room in the Dark Lord's Mausoleum though, so that's probably the one you sequence broke.
Gate of Illusion was absolute garbage, unironically. That said, once you solve the first puzzle, the rest of it is nowhere near as bad, since it's mostly drop platforms and alternate entrances.
God fucking dammit.
>flares moonlight start
wew goog luck
bad troll
Anyway, I hope 256ers will get to work on some bigger, more ambitious projects in the future in spite of the fact that LM2 was a bit underwhelming. I'd hate for people with actual passion to get shafted while retarded AAA companies are still in the business. Dudes like them and (for example) Pixel are what made the whole indie scene exist in the first place, not to mention they contributed towards gaming still feeling like gaming in the early 2000s.
It wants me to buy the gun to shoot the face. I have to farm gold with the flare gun.
Fuck you.
This really is exactly how it is sometimes. When something completely unrelated to the puzzle clicks in your head and it unfurls a whole tapestry of logical conclusions you're going to have to make to continue your journey.
Are you sure that was the only way to progress?
The only unfair puzzle in this game is where to chant the mantras. The game shouldn't assume that you know how location address are stored in memory.
Oh, right pistol ammo is free in subweapon only mode. Seed is good again.
Yeah, it was just 35g.
What do you mean?
HOW THE FUCK DO I BEAT THE GIANT ROBOT MAN
The directions that you decipher in game only work if you know that the rooms are stored in a matrix and loop around if you exceed the limits of the 5x5 grid.
I just finished my 3rd or 4th playthrough. I don't care what people say, the take a knee shit is fucking stupid. You don't crouch when you press down in La-mulana 1. It's just a stupid fucking thing that goes against the rules in the rest of the game. La-mulana 2 is overall better than 1. It has some flaws too but it's a much better designed game.
Believe.
Tower of Oaness when? I'm still waiting.
Which one, the statue? You probably just hit him in the face.
Ah that, you learn that from the manual.
Hit him in his weakspot for massive damage.
Stage 2 can be a bitch, but practice and pateince will do it. And also use your sub-weapons.
You're told how to compress the maps in the game's digital manual
But yes, the puzzle is bullshit and it's faster and easier to brute force it
>game literally tells you within the first 5 minutes to record everything and make a map
>nobody does it
>wow why is this game so hard lol
>people hate backtracking
>Yea Forums loves the game that is literally 99.9% backtracking
This. I'm sure some people beat La-mulana 1 without looking shit up but it's fucking stupid. Unlike 1, I was able to finish 2 without looking anything up. Took almost 100 hours but felt way more fair than 1.
>>people hate backtracking
Reminder that LM2 sold like shit and that's it for Nigoro.
>people hate backtracking
What?
Probably shouldn't have changed engines in the middle of development and took like 5 years to finish the game.
They didn't advertise worth a damn. They expected the hype from the first to carry the 2nd but then they took half a decade to get it out because they felt they just HAD to switch their game engine partway through. I love La-mulana but they really give off a sense of incompetence when it comes to decisions about development.
>la mulana 3 never
>no games to scratch that very specific itch La Mulana covered ever again
>Literally everything after the fifth guardian
>The Gate of Illusion
>The Chamber of Extinction stupidness
>The mantra bullshit
La-Mulana 1 goes full retarded in the last parts of the game.
Is La-Mulana 2 any better?
Not super close but you should play Environmental Station Alpha and do the post-game stuff if you like La-mulana.
I liked it but it's hard to recommend right now considering there's a bug on the latest version that eats one of your ankh jewels potentially softlocking your game if it happens.
Yes outside of the (optional) Brahma Puzzle.
Yes, but the end-game feels incomplete.
La-mulana 2 is miles better in terms of pacing and stupid bullshit. My only complaints against 2 is that the ending felt rushed and they rely on a specific game mechanic for a bit too many puzzles.
I actually liked that puzzle, the reward was meh though.
eternal prison is the best soundtrack in the series
youtube.com
*blocks your path*
That's not the Dark Lord's (or some say Dark Star Lord) Mausoleum
why did la mulana 2 add what seemed to be an additional alien race to the lore
Only thing I didn't like about solving it was the era wheels feel like they are supposed to do something more than what they are actually there for. I almost wish it was mandatory instead of what it gave you.
The fact it had more hints than you needed to solve it tripped me up. That's the only thing I didn't like about the puzzle, otherwise I liked it a lot.
I'm not sure about the lore but Anunnaki appears in 1 already. He's in the lowest part of Spring in the Sky.
It'll be a genre in 10 years
To the end user, it makes no difference. The game is bad as a result, and it doesn't matter why.
why wasn't this a full area
uh oh.
itty bitty baby can't solve the portal puzzle? just look at a guide, kiddo.
See right here, Anons.
This is an elitist. One who also doesn't know what a shift key is.
Don't be like this user.
Gate of Guidance is amazing. Mausoleum of Giants is also great,
but ? defaults to /
you raging homosexual
>used a question mark
>doesn't know what a shift key is
congrats, you played yourself
When the game relies so much in clues and hints, yes not giving those hits properly makes it bad.
Reminder that he wanted all the game to be like the hell temple.
youtube.com
Man, some puzzles are easy, like the ones in the mausoleum of the giants other are cryptic but fair, like the dance of life one or the one where you have balance the metal balls by finding how much they weight as well as your weight.
Others are simply stupid like the ones where you have to walk to a wall or hit a random part of the room to make something appear in a completely different area of the game. This games don't seem to have been designed for a person to play them alone, they feel more like ARG where a dozen people need to work together to solve the puzzle.
Backtracking is fine in a game about exploration, my problem is how you have to open the menu every 5 seconds to use an item, change weapons, change software, etc. Is like the water temple in OoT, but 10 hours long.
There are keys to change your weapon and subweapon, you still need to open your menu to change the usable item though.
The only bad game design in LM1 is Viy's backside gate in the remake. why the fuck did they feel the need to hide it until after beating viy when it was out in the open in the original game
>they feel more like ARG where a dozen people need to work together to solve the puzzle
Unironically, group-play LM1 is insanely fun if you're all blind.
The only puzzle that I was truly truly stuck on in la mulana 2 was the dinosaur doll, and determining which entrance to hell to take to take the 5 gates.
>I don't know where to go or what I'm even suppose to do
>This is most metoidvania games
>"That's what makes it so good"
These type of games are boring and you know it.
it's literally the single fucking pot in the entire game where the shuriken drop is 1 instead of 10
if you didn't connect the dots I'm sorry
original's gate of confusion was a hundred times worse
I should get back to playing 2.
I stopped playing it because I couldn't beat Kujata. The number of times I hae stopped playing a game because I couldnt beat a boss in 30+ years is pretty fucking low
its just corny as fuck and theres no way to evade everything it throws at you. I feel like the gameplay design was not tested
La Mulana is a perfect masterpiece and everyone that has a single complaint about it is a worthless retarded brainlet.
have a nice thread, shitters.
does anyone know if this was made easier over time or fi theres a way to make it easier?
i was originally playing on hard mode, but kujata was just 100% completely unreasonable/impossible on hard mode so i disabled it.
Release version Kujata was a joke then it got overbuffed in the next one or two patches. Was fun killing him when you knew the game already and knew where all the gopd things were beforehand.
I haven't really played since 1.2.2.1 so I don't know how it is now. Hopefully nerfed compared to the last time I saw him.
i mean im really really good at video games despite being almost 40 i still play hard stuff like this...im from nintendo...im good at platform controls
kujata's design places unreasonable demands on me, you basically need to see into the future to know where to be on screen. but is there a better weapon or a powerup or something i can get before fighting it maybe? I was playing blind and making maps
Sequel bait probably.
Yeah no, playing the game blind hard Kujata was more than unreasonable. I had a hard time having endgame gear with almost full hp.
Try it again in the latest version and see how it is now.
The micheal jackson puzzle hints were pure fucking ass.
Good thing I solved that puzzle by pure chance while casually trying to do something else.
I loved it. They set the expectations just fine, a game full of puzzles has area counter intuitive to strait forward thinking, but nothing was inherently misleading.
How was La-Mulana 2 by the way? I've heard so little about it since it launched.
I think the hints themselves were fine about telling you the spot, but figuring out you had to scan them was the problem.
More of the same, I loved the game. Still it felt a bit rushed at places and there have been really bad bugs in every patch so far. Feels like they don't test the game. I didn't encounter any myself but I've seen quite a few annoyed people already.
i highly recommend using the gun on kujata.
Better in some ways worse in others and the end sections are really weak. Reliance on the new mantra puzzle system will be a big factor on weather you like it more or less I think. I still really liked it but I beat it before all the patches and I've heard there's some game breaking bugs that can happen in them.
hmm, i guess i could grind money for the gun pretty easily
get the gun, make a new save, the first wave you should be able to do normally, then you can try and GUN the rest of the fight.
he was the hardest boss for me for sure.
There are simpler ways to admit you're a brainlet, user
mulbruk should have had more lines
Only part that tripped me up here was putting the weight on the skeleton
Was anyone else kinda disappointed in hard mode? The new enemy layouts were barely noticeable except in a few spots. Only thing thats actually harder are the bosses.
I could feel this was going to be DeceasedCrab before hovering over the link. I love this man to death.
I could not figure this one out for the life of me. I had just found the ninth mantra and was at the far right room in Takamahara's Shrine I decided to start chanting every combination of mantras I could think of until something happened.
So yes, I brute forced the shit out of this puzzle. I didn't figure out what clue went to this one until very much later.
So, real talk, did anyone finish the game (not talking about finding all the secrets, just reach the end) 100% legit, with out using a guide at any point? Also, without just stumbling on to something by just hitting random walls?
I used a guide to solve Brahma's Trials because certain elements of that puzzle frustrated me to no end but It turned out to be a complete waste of time since I already had every crystal skull except one, and I already knew it's location
>read twice
>"huh? the enemies in this area got stronger? weird who cares"
>"oh shit wait this is the whole rest of the game, fuck I already overwrote my save"
>fuck it, keep playing to the end
For 2 I did, not 1 though. Fuck some of the puzzles in 1.
I played only the original, not the remake. I used a guide three times. Once to open up the temple because I was really fuzzy on the mechanics and it was a very recently translated game. Once to do the gate puzzle in the endless corridor because my brother warned me that particular puzzle could be glitchy so if you did everything right, it might not register as right. And lastly, I looked up pretty much all of the hell temple including unlocking it, because those are made to be comically frustrating. It wasn't bad, I kept notes on tablets, but lots and lots of wandering to find if I missed anything.
i finished la mulana 2 with Yea Forums's help. the first two weeks after la mulana 2's release was full of people just discussing discoveries and helping others. it was quite a lot of fun and unlike most other video games. i couldn't finish la mulana 1 without a guide, no. mantras kinda stumped me. and a few puzzles in gate of illusion and chamber of birth.
