They started out with the less sexy stuff then the corporate suits or whoever probably stepped in and went "You dumb fuck do you even know how much money sexy outfits make us, then they went and put it back in.

Basically when you play, you get 30 points, and it goes to any unlockable costume.
The best costumes need 1000 points to be unlocked.
So you need to play an insane amount of games to unlock the costumes.
But there are special modes like DOA Quest which gives you 500 costume points per fight and you can unlock costumes fast enough. But it's still random, you could get 500 costume points for this sweet Christie stripper outfit, or the points could go to a Jan Lee outfit.

Unlocking requires "costume parts" that are acquired randomly and at a low drop rate. To put it another way, the player has no control over what they unlock and it's going to take a really long time to naturally unlock everything.

It's probably not going to flop, because the game was made on the cheap, including (based on the game's credits) lots of work being done by KT's subsidiary in Vietnam.

You have to collect pattern points from completing matches online and DOA quest. Doing DOA quest gives you 200-400 points a costume. The costumes require anywhere from 200-1000 points to unlock. The problem comes from the fact any points you get are distributed randomly to a random costume. If you beat a quest mission that gives 400 points and it unlocks a 200 point costume, the other 200 points are lost. Playing online gives you 10-12 points atm and that's only due to a special multiplier promotion thats ongoing. Playing arcade through 8 matches gives literally 3 points which is still randomly distributed. DOA quest is also finite so you'll run out of options to get more points until you slave away at ranked.

Depends on how willing people are to get reamed up the ass with dlc with an even bigger shaft than they used in DOA5 and VV combined. Too many people buying with their dicks. Base game sales will probably be lackluster, but the dlc sales will be insane. Look at the other examples: DOAX3 Scarlet coming out with dlc and exclusive content. They're even going to be adding more content to X3 Fortune, after abandoning their plans for it after pushback.

If the average quest reward is 300, then you get 30000 points total. Characters have 6 to 14 outfits each so let's say on average they're 700 and 10 per character, so 260 costumes. You will unlock roughly 1/3rd of the costumes by completing the doa quests.

For comparison, in DOA5 you unlocked costumes by simply playing the arcade mode. One playthrough unlocked the next costume in line for that character. And you could do it on any difficulty, so anybody could just put it on Very Easy and crush it fast.
