Why is one of the best games of all time

Above the characters, the story (it does whatever it wants towards the end, corny) the jokes, the charm and even the music.

It has something that sadly most other games lack. It's an interactive experience.

Toriel refusing to kill you even if you try to get hurt, Undyne bullets getting slower and slower while she's dying, the souls helping you when you call for them and in the middle of the fight, the fights with the amalgamates, all the reactions of the characters after using specific items, all the little sad, charming or funny moments with the other monsters depending on what you do.

Any other game that has one or two moments like these (story told trough gameplay) is considered a classic, in Undertale this is the fucking game, from start to finish.

I have been playing games for nearly 30 years, among all my favourites Undertale shines in a different and special way.

thank you for attending to my ted talk, fuck you nigger-kun

It's not. There are way better games out there.

No.

Good answers faggots LOL

I've enjoyed RPGs for years, but honestly, Undertale utterly disappointed me. The premise was amazing but it could've been executed much better, I think. It has pacifism as a theme but then takes a very naive approach to it. And it's a rather confusing direction because some characters make fun of you being a mega pacifist and even the best ending tells you such a method wouldn't be realistically viable.

This also goes to how battles are handled, where sparing an enemy no matter if they actually wish you harm, is the correct answer. And frankly, it doesn't make much sense. Why are you sparing the monsters that suddenly pop up in your face and are now shooting bullets at your soul? I mean it makes more sense when Muffet and Papyrus spare you, but other than that...

And the characters aren't really all that loveable or endearing to me either.

Absolutely correct, but fuck toby fox

this is now a fish thread because fish best

>Could've inquired on the games that the user preferred to Undertale
>Calls them a faggot instead

And this is why people hate this crummy game's even crummier fanbase.

Why do you not like Toby Fox?

It was made with soul by a man who knew what he was doing.

Simple as that.

You seriously like the crazy, child murdering fish?

10/10 would mating press the fish

I THINK UNDERTALE SUCKS
only the music is good

No, asgore did that

Not the same user, but the guy's kind of a cringelord with an ego.

On this is a matter of perspective, I fully understand your point, but i played it as a pacifist fantasy (word of the author), almost like a fairy tale,, the moments of reality appear progressively getting stronger at the end

Pretty sure it was the crazy anime fish woman who chased a child down, without provocation, chucking tridents at them.

They only said no instead of giving a real answer, what do you expect? Talk about the game, not the fanbase, coward

Which ones?

That was just some good ol' fashion public service.

>the moments of reality appear progressively getting stronger at the end

What do ya mean?

I dont check his Twitter or anything, do you have any sources?

Isn't that eyepatch on the wrong side

All the characters seem very silly and simple at the beggining, later in the game you learn more about them and their flaws and problems seem almost human (even Papyrus only likes spaguetty cause most of the people around him seemed to like it). At the end asriel flat out tells you all about the traumas, the personality of chara etc

Battle Network
Radiant Historia
Miitopia
Mario & Luigi
Bravely Default
Tales
Knights in the Nightmare
Disgaea

Good taste.

Do this games explore themes or story trough gameplay? Or is it cause the mecahincs are fun and addicting

I finally played it., 8/10 game, 11/10 soundtrack. The only reason I still call it overrated is because the fucking Pope has a copy, a bit excessive. I'm gonna get Deltarune on release probably.

Do you know why I hate UNDERTALE? Because it's the best game ever made. The graphics look like they were drawn by a four year old with the talents of Pablo Picasso in his prime. Which is what I would've said if I liked the graphics. Which I do. Not. Narratively, this game is a paragon of interactive storytelling. Every choice you make weighs on your conscious because the connections you make with the characters feel organic. And that's why I'm giving this game a five out of five... billion. It fucking sucks.

Darn right

Jesus Christ, chuck tridents at someone ONE TIME and they never forgive you for it.

Not him, but pretty much all the games he posted are far better than Undertale from a gameplay perspective, those games are fun to play and some have funny writing and setting too.

The pope jerks his ding dong to asriel pron

Then I think there is no point for comparison, they are trying achieve completely different goals (I love FF Tactics for example, nothing to do with this style of game)

The comparison is if they are better than Undertale or not, they are all better.

undertale is not one of the best games of all time
it's just very good
but that soundtrack tho

They have more combat depth and progression than a game that is not trying to have deep combat and even makes fun of progresion systems, that proves that these are better games

Yeah basically, thanks for repeating what I said on my post I guess.

AHEM I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE

Attached: bensusie.jpg (630x496, 62K)

not even the best western jrpg

>western jrpg
I'm intrigued, post some western jrpgs.

Fuck Undertale

Undertale is a dishonest game that manipulates the player into thinking they are a moral person simply because they don't murder NPCs that usually act like humans and are usually able to properly communicate to the player. The player gets rewarded with friendship and praise and everyone jerks you off simply because you don't go on a random murder spree that you aren't even incentivized to do in the first place considering how boring and unrewarding the combat is. Toby seems to think that the main reason why people grind in JRPGs is simply to see numbers go up but that's a gross oversimplification of the games he was inspired by - the reason why people grinded was usually because they have difficulty defeating a boss who acts as an aggressor to the main character. It was meant to be a failsafe to beat the game and also a way to open new gameplay options to the player (such as as skills or classes). Most players do not randomly grind for no reason unless it provides some sort of benefit to them through gameplay but Toby failed to emulate this - if, for example, leveling up gave the player more methods to kill tougher monsters (i.e. by burning them alive, bashing their skulls, etc) then that would not only emulate the JRPGs he mocks but it would also make sense since an actual psychopath who finds killing fun would want to find more ways to kill people. Instead though you just do the same generic slash attack over and over. The Genocide route is also not meaningful because it has a number of very strict requirements that the majority of players would never stumble upon through naturally playing the game - many end up looking it up in a guide and then play it simply because they're curious. That doesn't actually say anything about violence in games or the player because it doesn't comment on the natural behavior of players, so any criticism to the player in the genocide route is ultimately flaccid (cont.)

who cares faggot, it has hot characthers

Attached: Muffet.jpg (561x800, 61K)

Go masturbate to a porn page, im interested in his criticism

There is nothing in Undertale that is remotely applicable to real life, people don't suddenly want to become your friends or praise you because you don't murder everyone for no reason, that is considered the bare minimum that is expected and required of you. The player character doesn't even talk or have any real discernible personality. The theme of "determination" makes little sense considering how easy the Pacifist route is, if it was an actual bullet hell like the games it was clearly influenced by and the game was actually extremely difficult for pacifist players then that would make sense, but the only time "determination" ever makes sense as a theme is near the end when you fight Flowey because the fight is set up to appear impossible but beatable if you don't give up. If the pacifist route was actually genuinely very challenging then that would make the ending as well as all of the praise actually deserved - you went the harder route and suffered but ultimately earned your ending through sheer guts. Instead it's the Genocide route that, for some reason, is the harder one.

The game is also dishonest in how it portrays the monsters. Toby fails to give any sense of urgency to the fact that they are trapped underground. There are hints that they need sunlight and are in environments that don't fit but the game doesn't go anywhere near far enough - for example what if there was a town where everyone was sick due to all of the overcrowding, or what if some of the monsters were going blind due to lack of sunlight? Because of this Asgore's actions (as well as Undyne's, to a degree) are not justified - why do they need to leave underground now? Why is the situation so urgent that he has to murder children right now? Why was Toriel fine with Asgore killing all of the other children and doing nothing about it? The game just brushes over all of this quickly and never addresses this because it wants to paint the monsters as likable (cont.)

I love you bb, come back kiss kiss

and this doesn't even include characters like Alphys who are controversial even among the fandom, or the fact that Sans, for some reason, decides to do absolutely nothing to stop you during the Genocide route despite the fact that he's clearly meant to be the most difficult boss in the game. You just go around, murdering everyone (including his own brother) and he has nothing to say or do to you until the very end when it's already too late. Then he criticizes you for being the murderer who doens't care about anyone when he did nothing. This could have been fixed if Sans had some reason to have limited interactions with the player (maybe he made a deal with Asgore that he has to stay near the entrance at almost all times and only gets a break once in a while, and ends up fighting the player because they try leaving) but this is also never addressed in the game.

Undertale is a game that continuously praises the player simply for playing it. It's a game where the main character is praised for being a passive agent with no real personality. That's why Undertale is popular, it's the ultimate casual game.

Good criticism, my counter argument

1 yes, the monsters are very friendly and they all love you with little effort, it builds into the "fary tail" aspect of the game, the characters tell you that humans and monsters dont work the same way (asriel tells you directly at the end too), its not for everyone and it is fair if you consider it a flaw, but their human side are there very clearly portrayed, and they feel real and relatable (thats why the game is a success after all)
2 The grinding criticism is totally fair, grinding in the majority of jrpg's is mindless, and killing whatever the games puts in front of you hurts most themes, there are multiple ways to be a sadist in the game witouth the need of more power, you can kill some of the monsters in different ways or at different times, and their reactions are priceless.

3 you can learn a lot of real lessons from the characters easily (dont judge other persons for what they appear, dont use comedy as a way to justify your apathy, you cant hide from the world forever etc) ALL of the characters have a key flaw (and thats a lesson)

4 there is no urgency in the underworld, just depression and sadness, and it was greatly portrayed specially in the cavern section, the monsters dont have stars only the lights at the ceiling of the cavern

Shameless bump
I wanna see the discussion rolling
