Halo 2___

Reach

odst/reach

How, the campaign is a broken mess and other installments did multiplayer better

>How, the campaign is a broken mess

Explain this?

Jackal snipers.

Git gud, shitter.

You posted it

Attached: V official halo ranking list.png (1070x898, 934K)

I've beaten it on legendary once. It's not fun, it's tedious. So I've "gotten gud"

>ODST
>Anything other than shit.
I want this meme to die
>B-buh muh moosic!

its the second best

Odst fucking sucks

Sure as hell wasn't this game, it was Halo 3 the last good one Bungie ever made, this and Reach aged like milk.

This

No u

Halo 1 / CE provided the foundation for everything else, and has to recieve appropriate recognition.
Halo 2 Gave us terrible vertically split co-op.
Halo 3 gave us Forge and fixed co-op.
Halo ODST confined us within cities, and gave us a grim side of the war, as an above average grunt.
Halo Reach gave us a different take, as 'just another Spartan'.

Halo 1 should be top.
Halo 3 should be second.
Reach and ODST should be considered good spin-offs.
Halo 2 is really awkward to replay with your buds. Drugs and booze does a lot for old games, but that split-screen really annoys. Who thought we needed all that vertical screenspace?

I don't want to talk about post-bungie.

*blocks your fucking path*

Attached: coldsnap.jpg (400x400, 48K)

What is it with zoomers overrating ODST and Reach, they both sucked on release? I hate blinded nostalgia faggots.

>zoomers
>nostalgia

bruh

Halo 1, 2 and 3 were great
ODST and Reach were great as spin-offs

post-Bungie Halo is not good; the reason for Halo going from arguably the titular game franchise of the 2000s and its releases gigantic consumer events to completely out of the picture didn't just fall out of the fucking sky

Attached: 1464961723420.png (198x141, 38K)

I loved reach for the forge maps, a the good old days where you would join a friend and then end up in a rqndom lobbywith 20 ppl trying to survive in a escape death map

Reach's story was so fucking retarded from lore perspective

Yes, zoomers and nostalgia is all it is, ODST and Reach aren't good.

>ODST and Reach were great as spin-offs
They sucked

>Halo 1, 2 and 3 were great
You're right on the money here.

It was pretty retarded from an everything perspective.

I agree with all of this but I don't understand reach, why do people hate it so much?
Armour abilities?

>Custom Edition

This.

Attached: 1547307857896.jpg (1920x1080, 155K)

Why did Bungie retcon the books?

They were jealous that Microsoft Game Studios could tell a better story than them.

Dying as often as you did means otherwise.

>I agree with all of this but I don't understand reach, why do people hate it so much?

The campaign is inconsistent with Fall of Reach and Halo CE

This

It just isn't fun.
Shitty campaign
Shitty level design
Shitty enemy AI/behaviour
Shitty enemy design
Extremely shitty plot
Shitty characters
BOOOOOORING

Halo CE still holds up, go play it now and you'll have just as much fun as the first time you played it. The sounds, the level design, the varied maps, the colours, the varied enemy AI, the difficulty, the weapons. Everything handled well, other than the driving.

Reach has none of these things.

2 is best multiplayer
1 is best overall

>Shitty enemy AI/behaviour
>Shitty enemy design

It was the best in the entire Halo series, though?

This, it's also hard to look at, Halo CE, 2, 3, and 4 all look great even when they're not on MCC , same with Halo 5, but Reach just looks muddy. The player also moves very slow even compared to Halo 4 and 5 and those have somewhere around the same base movement as Reach, it must have something to do with the acceleration.

1, 3 and certainly not ODST.

Not him but Reach made the Elites smarter just to make every other AI in the game shit. Reach has shit AI.

CE elites are hundreds of times more interesting than the blob things they have in reach.

CE Elites were the best, man. God I wish that AI returned.

youtube.com/watch?v=GlFgbU8vwq4
h2 had the best menu theme to just sit and chill and listen to

Why did they ruin the gameplay in Halo 2?

where does halo fireteam raven stand in all of this - one got installed at my local arcade, is it worth a few bucks to play or should i just youtube the game?

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 89K)

The derisive laugh when they kill you, how dangerous they were in groups, and suddenly encountering super lethal special elites. Very kino.

They were good in Halo 2 as well imo. The biggest issue with Halo 3 was that they were gone. In Reach they were just boring and non-descript, though they were fun to play as in elite team slayer when it didn't get vetoed.

Attached: 1517023831858.gif (320x256, 3.25M)

They had to rush launch and ended up making some of the enemies bullet sponges. The brutes are a prime example of this, rather than develop dynamic combat.
They also had those flags to designate rank, which I thought I had a bootlegged copy at first.

Bungie rushed the campaign out the door.

...

Bungie addresses this in a vidoc

youtube.com/watch?v=WPOlLH8p8u8

*to get it

Reach easily

Yup, I got my information originally from that vidoc!

Honestly that's the appeal. But i have finished all the halos multiple times so i liked the challenge. Plus, if you die in co-op it's game over. Way better than other halos where you can just endlessly respawn.

Bruh the splitscreen is an option in the xbox settings, not the game itself.

bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/1215876

It really saddens me that you lost out on so many good times in Halo 2 local because you were too stupid to change the widescreen settings.

>They had to rush launch and ended up making some of the enemies bullet sponges.
In Halo 1 all the weapons were balanced around the campaign, hence things like the OP pistol and a shotgun that has an effective range of 5 inches.

In Halo 2 onward every weapon is balanced towards multiplayer, so you're stuck fighting bullet sponge enemies with weapons designed to kill 100hp targets. For me it's a big part of why none of the campaigns have been as fun as Halo 1's.

*an effective range of more than 5 inches

To me, I think Halo 3 was the closest they got to getting it right.

>To me, I think Halo 3 was the closest they got to getting it right.

Halo 4 had a better weapon sandbox than Halo 3.

ODST best atmosphere/soundtrack
Halo 2 best campaign and probably my favorite multiplayer
Halo 3 best customs
Halo 5 has the best multiplayer after 2. Customs are kind of dead now, even with searching
Halo Reach has okayish customs
Halo 4 has a shit campaign outside of the CortanaxChief bonding, which was awkward to begin with. Multiplayer was the worst in the series.

>Halo 2 best campaign
Of course, it does, to you.

BASED

the brutes were less bullet spongy than the elites since you could headshot them easily with the 2 most common weapons in the game, its impossible to fight elites on the Legendary difficulty unless you carry around a shit-ton of plasma pistols

i got a blowjob when i was playing this game when i a was a teen

didnt like the game too much really, but its a good game for lore

I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS MAP

Attached: 1511385972384.jpg (598x749, 39K)

halo sucks, fuck off

Thoughts?

Attached: Halo_Combat_Evolved-Ice_Fields.jpg (800x640, 109K)

Halo PC's maps were the best because they weren't limited by aging Xbox hardware

Infinity was so fucking weird

It's just so big. You actually fight in only like 15% of the map, but I loved it anyway

I imagined it would be bigger.

>"Gephyrophobia, fear of bridges. Yeah, another map, if I recall, with super verticality. A lot of people fall into this trap, which is people think bigger is better. I mean, hell, it happened even on the warfare stuff we were talking about for Halo 2 in some ways. Its just not always the case. In a lot of those maps they had this mandate, and I don’t remember where it came from, but we had to do bigger because bigger is better." -Max Hoberman

Basically, bigger isn't always better.

3 or 2. theyre pretty equal.

remember this place?

Attached: sandtraphalo3.png (1920x1080, 1.55M)

Halo 3 odst had a nice atmosphere but it could have been something much greater.

For me its for mp
3>2>5>reach>1>4. Odst firefight and hw1&2 excluded

For campaign
2>3>odst>reach>hw1>hw2>4>1>5

none of them, they are all babys first vidya shooter.

Scorpian with good machine gunner would basically obliterate everything in btb

you posted it.

I'll be banging on the 'Halo 2 campaign is overrated' drum until the day I die, the absolutely atrocious brutes, the jackal snipers, so many levels are overly constrained hallways in which there is no room for interesting encounter design so you just slug your way through hallways of enemies with weapons that were designed entirely for multiplayer without the barest consideration of the needs of the campaign. It's not a terrible campaign, despite my complaints, but it is one of the worst campaigns under Bungie's reign, with only Reach being less enjoyable to me.

Actually fucking this.

>Fall of Reach
ok
>and Halo CE
can you elaborate on this one?

Spoiler next time. You just triggered MY PTSD.

2 or Reach, for the story and improvement upon the gameplay of previous games.
I know Reach had a sparse-ass story and completely demolished the book canon, but Fall of Reach was my favorite book and it's nice to see some aspects of it turned into a game, even if it got butchered in the process.

Why was 4 so hated?

There aren't that many of them, they always spawn in the same place, the glint from their beam rifle is easy to spot, and they die in one BR burst to the head even on legendary

Attached: 1296431914341.jpg (318x242, 75K)

It's basically Forerunner crap, and the series basically ended after 3. 4 and everything after it are just 343 trying to milk the cow before it keels over.

3 had that secret ending if you beat it on legendary though

Halo 2 was the game that taught me to be distrustful of AAA games.

Before Halo 2 I never really thought of games in terms of budget or dev team size or allocation of resources, but during that campaign I kept asking myself "You have an orchestrated soundtrack, celebrity voice actors for disposable marines, all these fancy cutscenes and yet you couldn't manage to make a single fun level?"

>I kept asking myself "You have an orchestrated soundtrack, celebrity voice actors for disposable marines, all these fancy cutscenes and yet you couldn't manage to make a single fun level?"

New Mombasa? Delta Halo? High Charity?

I didn't enjoy any of those maps.

What are your favorite Halo campaign maps then?

This statement is pretty fucking comical since the original Halo has the most obvious ran out of money half way point I have ever seen in an FPS

Bros, do you think Halo Infinite will be as good as the first three?

Linear, 2 QTEs, Libraian lore cutscene, Prometheans weren't fun to fight, weapons batteries and ammo, Forerunner weapons sucked, Didact wasn't a good villain, only 8 levels, levels are all linear, weapons despawned too fast, art style and music were bad, less weapons and vehicles, no Forerunner vehicles, had to watch Terminals on Waypoint the app no longer exists, by the way. Halo 4's campaign was a mess with only the Chief and Cortana relationship being good.

What's wild to me too is that it's not like Halo 2 is badly designed on a fundamental level, usually a game with bad level design is also bad on a lot of other levels, but if Halo 2 just had levels that were put together in a more interesting way, it would have had a great campaign, aside from the brutes there's nothing else wrong with it that couldn't have been resolved with smarter level design, and I honestly cannot think of another AAA game like that.

>Bros, do you think Halo Infinite will be as good as the first three?

We know nothing about the game besides that it's a reboot

>if Halo 2 just had levels that were put together in a more interesting way

How would you make Halo 2's levels more interesting? Did you like Halo 3, which was Bungie learning from their mistakes with Halo 2?

Halo, Silent Cartographer, Assault on the Control Room, 343 Guilty Spark, The Maw from Halo 1

The Ark, and The Covenant from Halo 3

Didn't play any of them after 3 so I don't know if they have good maps or not.

At least it had some good maps before it hit that point. It was like Halo 2 started there.

Reach should have been glassed 3 times over by the time Noble team reached Pillar of Autumn. The begging of the game should have been them in the middle of being absolutely fudgepacked by covenant. It was a long and extremely destructive and costly fight with pure hate behind it. But the game paints it like some medium level invasion that happened over the course of a couple days.

Definitely not.

While re-using levels is never a good thing, CE's reused levels are genuinely some of the best attempts at it I've ever seen, despite reusing the same geometry as AotCR, Two Betrayals is totally different to play, and the reversal from you and marines tearing through the covenant, to you by yourself as the covenant is torn apart by the flood is super cool to see. The only terrible level in CE is The Library, other levels have bad bits, like the overly repeated rooms in AotCR or the covenant ship hallways in TaR, but none of them are bad throughout.

Halo Reach was unironically the best.

>realizing the futility of the sacrifices made
>realizing the extinction of humanity was inevitable

>CE's reused levels are genuinely some of the best attempts at it I've ever seen
I mean if you are referring to the re-use of those 4 open areas then they werent so bad but the hour of gameplay that was just copy pasting of the same fore-runner bridge, hallway and box shapped arena without variation was pretty fucking awful

Attached: 1510463703346.jpg (183x181, 14K)

Titanfall 2.

I did like Halo 3, in fact I think the scarab battles and final warthog runs are the best setpieces in videogames, because they're purely mechanical and are based on gameplay systems you use throughout the entire course of the game, rather than awkward boss battles that introduce new mechanics at the last second like the ones in 2 (though Spark was kind of lame to fight as well)
Halo 3 is a much better and more briskly paced campaign, it tends to show you what you need to do (rescue Sergeant Johnson for example) and then you just kind of fight your way there in whatever way you see fit, it's not a sandbox game, but it does allow for the sort of on-the-fly tactical combat that made Halo CE great, if not to the same extent. It also doesn't really fuck around nearly as much with the 'stay and guard this spot' objectives, which both 2 and CE use way too many times, and 2's were really terrible paced with just drip feeds of enemies over the course of minutes.

>yfw some retarded enlisted man that got his team BTFO is trying to give YOU, a recent graduate of the Reach Military Institue, orders

Attached: 1427955973147.png (1024x506, 935K)

Sandtarp was based. Used to play entire BTB games going only for Mongoose splatters and I had a documented Vehicular Manslaughter (10 consecutive splatter kills without dying) with only Mongoose kills. Put that shit up on my File Share. Good times.

It's a pretty basic rail shooter with a halo skin on it. It cost me about ten bucks to play through with friends, but its only about 30 minutes long. Just YouTube it, it's not a masterpiece or anything.

>mobile games above Reach
You are delusional

SPV3 is such a mess, no way is it better than Reach or 4.

Either ODST or Reach

Why was Reach so good bros?

i hate it more than 5 because 4 had good concepts that were fucked up. its one thing to be shit from the get-go, but its another to have a good idea handed to you and fuck it up.

It wasn't, it was only good to COD children that didn't shut the fuck up about adding sprint, classes and other COD shit to Halo back on Bungie.net in 2007-2009, thanks a lot you faggots, now you're trying to do the same shit with trying to turn Halo Infinite into some battle royale garbage but at least 343 are ignoring you, something Bungie should have did.

>all those file share memes are gone now

There is no reason to be upset.

It's a Halo CE mod. The people who made it had zero restraint and just threw in as much shit as possible; it feels like playing one of those mods for Fallout New Vegas that adds thousands of enemy spawns across the map.
On top of the original halo CE content you have brutes, skirmishers, three kinds of hunters, armor abilities, new vehicles and 30,000 weapons crammed haphazardly into the halo CE campaign with no thought for how it all interacts while you play. it becomes a mind numbing slog to play through.
It's free, but so is vanilla CE so there's little reason to play it. Also some of the datalogs have a creepy incest vibe to them.

>cope

Yes, there is

Where did I say this?

>Also some of the datalogs have a creepy incest vibe to them

explain?

3 had the most aesthetic marines.

When you exposed yourself as a 343 shill.

Shh Halo is dead now. Reach was the high point.

Floodified Captain Keyes really likes thinking about what he's going to do to Miranda.

this

Attached: ded.png (853x440, 424K)

3 was the high point, everything after has been a low point.

343 shills only exist on the halo discord and they're very small and they're also gay. There is no 343 shills on Yea Forums. But there are zoomer faggots that got started with Halo with Reach. You were the faggots shitting up the Halo 3 forums on Bungie.net with your CODshit talk back then.

>Discord tranny

Yikes!

sidenote: but the marines were always one of my favorite parts about halo. especially in 3. i always tried my best to keep them alive, and they actually turned out to be pretty useful on some missions.

I don't even go to the discord, faggot. Halo fans know that 343 shills are faggots, that's a fact, you can't be a huge fan of 343 unless you're a straight up faggot.

The first HALF (including the initial flood reveal) of Halo 1 is GREAT. As good as you say it is. I can play that game just like it was new again. The latter half is absolute shit. It's just the same locations but in reverse (you're right back to where you started in the game). The flood made the developers lazy. Instead of good weapon placement and pickups scattered around the map (gotta have a pile of dead marines in a corner in order to give you human weapons, can't have the covenant use them) they just throw an assortment of weapons to the flood because it makes sense for them to hold both alien and human weapons. Problem is that they give them rocket launchers and whatever the fuck they feel like. Rocket launcher flood are WORSE than the jackal snipers in halo 2. At least I can position out where the snipers probably are through trial and error and actually expect them. Rocket launcher hits you as soon as you are around the corner (any difficulty except maybe easy) and boom, you're dead.

>Didn't get to enjoy any Halos beyond 2 cause no 360/xbone

So, 2 I guess.
