One of the best video game series of all time. Normalized the idea of story telling in video games, while bringing great voice work to the table and some of the most memorable bosses and gameplay ever seen in a video game.

Fucking amazing. Targeted by some loud contrarians on mostly Yea Forums these days probably because they have some personal grudge against Kojimbo

Overrated "game" series that weebs think it's amazing because it likes to break the 4th wall and it's like their favorite japanese animus. Thief is way better in it's genre.

The third greatest franchise ever made, just behind Final Fantasy and Streets of Rage.

There’s only a handful of good Final Fantasy games. I much prefer the Persona series

3rd and 4th are kino.

>dust settled
Brace yourself user.

thats because your opinion is shit sweetie :)

Overall amazing, though MGSV games should not have happened. At least not in their current state.

Otherwise, the series remained surprisingly faithful to its original style and mood to the very end. Practically every other series had tried to change for the sake of change, "to appeal to wider audiences".

Went to shit once it went 3D.

whats that say

>MGS (1998) is widely credited for pioneering cinematic storytelling in video games
>doesn't even have facial animation and lip-sinc, a feature every other story-driven game released in the same year had (spyro, grim fandango, half-life, etc.)

Where can I get a cool bandanna like Snake's? The ones on amazon all look like what the crips and bloods wear

your franchise is dead thiefag

MGS is an amazing trilogy and all 3 games are easily in my top tier list.

Some of the best games ever made.

makes thiefags and splinter cell fags seethe. ABSOLUTELY BASED

But why is MGSV so bad though? It's turned into your regular old adventure game with currency and resource collecting for powerups.

Could Left Alive fags be welcomed in this thread?

It had it's ups and downs.

1 - Okay
2 - a complete trainwreck
3 - Good
4 - became a mess because it tied up every loose plot end of the series
PW - decent but held back by being a PSP game
5 - why was this even made?
Survive - this isn't even Metal Gear anymore

Overrated series, one of the series's that pioneered the walk forward cutscene game design that plagues modern gaming and single handedly ruined stealth games

>PW - decent but held back by being a PSP game
>not playing HD version on PS3

>says this even while MG is forever doomed to be nothing more than theming for konami's slot machines

The last good game was released 15 years ago.

That's because MGS1 went in the opposite route and put insane detail into the scenery and levels instead. Also if I'm honest, the lack of facial movement on janky PS1 graphics helped the game age considerably better.

>>not playing HD version on PS3

It still has the mission based structure on the HD version

MGS4 was okay if only for the Shadow Moses and end boss fight nostalgia. The microwave hallways was also nice. I don't remember anything else about it though, other than Meryl cucked Snake for the series' court jester for some reason.

back to your containment board thiefags

>MGS2
>A trainwreck
18 years and still buttblasted about having to play Raiden lmao.

2>1>3>trash

>2 - a complete trainwreck
It was kino

18 years and still using that strawman excuse

15 years and still thinking MGS3:22FPS was better

1 > 3 > 2 > 4 > PO > PW > V

>doesn't even have facial animation and lip-sinc
>he needs these things for there to be good storytelling
dumb frogposter

1 = 2 > 3 = 4 > 5 = PW

What's the best difficulty for each game?

Oh yeah, just look at that detailed scenery.

Pretty boring and gay. Normalized the idea of cinematic video games so it's solely responsible for the plethora of trashy fucking movie walking-sims we have today.

boring by accident
gay on purpose

>Normalized the idea of cinematic video games so it's solely responsible for the plethora of trashy fucking movie walking-sims we have today
How do I know that you are actually a shitty zoomer that never played MGS?

1 2 and 3 are sweet

>grey boxes
>oh but some of the textures white!
Is this supposed to be impressive?

Portable Ops was the first one I played and probably the one I played the most.

>That's because MGS1 went in the opposite route and put insane detail into the scenery and levels instead

>insane detail
>bodies instantly disappeared, so you didn't even have to hide them, a feature other stealth games have had since 1984

Attached: 1523451916032.jpg (454x284, 36K)

Because he is absolutely correct about the fact that MGS helped to popularize the wannabe-movie game genre and you're triggered by it?

I would have been triggered if they had released a remake of 3 before doing one of MG/MG2. Doing a full on remake of a 6th gen game is a waste.

What is the significance of the number 86063?

>How do I know that you are actually a shitty zoomer that never played MGS?

>playing MGS

>when the 'game' arguably has more hours of cutscenes than it does hours of gameplay (and it still has to resort to padding its anemic content by making you backtrack without any meaningful incentive)

>Confirmed blind
Actually look at the textures on the building. Any other PS1 game would hhave made the structure solid gray. The textures, for a PS1 game, are very well detailed. And it clearly shown in gameplay because the Helipad ran at like 20 frames per second.

Yeah, on PC. Even Syphon Filter made the bodies disappear after so long.

>user is talking about visual aesthetics of the levels, which MGS pushed pretty hard in that regard when it came to the PSX
>MUH BODIES

Attached: nick.jpg (184x184, 5K)

>Yeah, on PC.
Are you genuinely this retarded? Return to Castle Wolfenstein had non-disappearing bodies you had to hide in 1984. Do you seriously think it was working with stronger hardware than the PS1?

Attached: 1551017810907.png (558x614, 29K)

see

oh look wrpg-kun its here seething that people remember mgs more than thief.

A series that pioneered an entire genre of games, advanced storytelling, albeit some interesting writing choices.

Peaked at 3

>Return to Castle Wolfenstein had non-disappearing bodies
Are you seriously comparing Return to Castle Wolfenstein to a fully rendered 3D game? The sprites were 2D and the level detail was ass, it wasn't pushing any boundaries. Both Syphon Filter and Metal Gear Solid were pushing the PS1 to its limits, hence why bodies disappeared.

Attached: 1304376955947.png (500x375, 299K)

no one gives a shit castle wolfenstein subhuman
it wasnt even the first stealth game.

My most favorite franchise alongside Ace Combat. Yea Forums only started to be contrarian about it because of the legacy it left behind

You mean Tenchu? They all came out in 1998, so that's hardly meaningful.

1, 2 and 3 are generation defining games. 4 is a sad fuckup which stemed from the fact that Kojima never really planned anything ahead of time and didn't really want to make it, so it was more or less predictable that it would be a fucking mess. Kojima is also retarded for thinking that the absolute worst part of 4 was the cutscene length.

PW is pretty amazing given it came at the end of the series and still turned out the way it did. Does pretty much 95% of elements outside of pure gameplay fundamentals better than V.

V is awful and it's pretty crazy how the only good part of that game is the gameplay, at least until you play for around ten hours and realize that you've seen everything good the game has to offer. V's plot is mindbogglingly retarded and pretty much puts into question anything prior that Kojima ever wrote, that's how bad it is. I think V is worse than 4 because GZ managed to set up the story perfectly and it still turned out the way it did.

Attached: 1544954612361.jpg (305x230, 24K)

>hardly meaningful.
the absolute state of westacucks

Probably my favorite series, 2 is my favorite but they're all exceptional. Exciting characters and storylines, fun gameplay, unique as hell, has great pathos, a lot of attention to detail, I've been going back over and over ever since I started playing them. Lost count at this point.

1 & 2 are masterpeices in videogame histroy
3 is massively over-rated
4 and 5 were doomed from the start because they had to live up to their predecesors

Attached: colonelglitch.png (638x358, 163K)

If I wanted to watch a movie instead of play games, I would watch a movie.

>1, 2 and 3 are generation defining games.

>generation defining
>consistently had the weakest stealth mechanics and level design of their generation

Attached: 1551554266133.png (644x573, 68K)

>thinking that these plebs have ever heard about tenchu

There's no movie, or game that is like Metal Gear though so that's a stupid statement. One of a kind series that uses the gaming medium to it's potential.

thiefags still seething

Is he the same as AC fag?

FFXII does not have forced random encounters. Outside of a few scripted events, not too many of them actually do, really. All of them just rely on random random encounters (except XII)

>One of a kind series that uses the gaming medium to it's potential.

Because sitting through hour long pre-rendered cinematics is the highest form of gaming.

What if I like all of them?

>Because sitting through hour long pre-rendered cinematics is the highest form of gaming.
They weren't pre-rendered, user.

They also weren't hour-long. MGS1-3 have 4-6 hours of cinematics per game.

Attached: MGS1SnakePP.png (350x286, 105K)

you cant because if you they will post cherrypicked images about how mgs is shit.

>3 is massively over-rated

Attached: 1286582735265.jpg (310x440, 132K)

MGS1 & 2 were mindblowing when first released

MGS3 was a degrade on the story but the gameplay was more expansive I guess.

Portable Ops was shit but it was a spin off so okay.

MGS4 took the piss and felt like a all round kick in the bollocks. Act 1 & 2 were the only actual gameplay missions in the whole game; the rest was just set pieces and the story was shit.

Peace Walker was where the series fully died for me; the tech was somehow more advanced in the 70's when in MGS1 Metal Gear Rex was was supposed to be a state of the art death machine; and everybody was like "oh my god Snake you took down a Tank and Hind single handedly, you're fucking incredible" when in PW your fucking scrub teammates you've just grabbed off a field in Guatemala do it for all the time a laugh.

I played Ground Zeroes and was disappointed and I never bothered with Phantom Pain.
I don't feel like I missed out.

low level bait, user

I prefer rising

Attached: 1535274374719.png (415x322, 155K)

Just to prove how these zoomer fucktards feel the need to shit on the series despite having no idea what they are talking about. Really the "muh cinematic trash" argument only works for MGS4.

>the highest form of gaming.
Nobody said that, the medium can be utilized in many ways. If you can't see more than long cutscenes and assume it should automatically be in movie format than you're unironically a brainlet who hasn't played the games probably.

>everyone who doesn't like MGS is a zoomer

>Really the "muh cinematic trash" argument only works for MGS4.

Hello ladies and gentlemen

This is the first in a series of four posts I’ll be making on the Metal Gear Solid series

point proven

Man, remember when I said that? Classic me.

3 had shit gameplay. The jungle was boring and tedious

where are the other posts?

bump

I retain that Rising is the most Metal Gear Metal Gear game.

that's a yikes from me

Reminder that The Boss did NOT want a world without borders

She was a patriot. She loved her country and fought for it all her life. But she also understood that the existence of nuclear weapons disturbed the natural balance of power in the world.
What she wanted was a world in which every nation, big or small, had the power to determine its own fate, without the interference of WMDs or secret societies.
She hated the way the US and Soviets were using small countries as proxy battlegrounds. Yknow, a thing that actually happened and still happens.

This is what makes Big Boss’ misunderstanding of her words tragic. He creates a society that seeks to unite the world under a single power, the exact opposite of what she wanted.
He understands that she died to reunite thr Philosophers, but doesn’t understand that she did it as a last resort to prevent nuclear war.

F

>12
>1
>good

The Boss initially believed in soldiers being political tools, that simply take orders for the benefit of their country. But by the end of her arc she comes to realize it's up to soldiers to lay down arms and not fight, which is exactly what she does.

No lol. She believed some people are just born to be soldiers, and that no other life would suit them, and that therefore they should be treated with respect and allowed to die for what they believe in rather than petty bullshit wars. BB misunderstands this as soldiers being their own class and culture that need their own nation, and ends up sending countless men to die in bullshit mercenary battles for money.

>12
>Not good

When you realise that the story you see are just extracts from Ondore's book written in a way to make you see him in a good light when in fact he basically manipulates events to start a nuclear war for his own purposes you'll realise that the story is MGS2 tier

What do you mean no? BB understood completely, and he rejected her decision to lay down arms at the end of peace Walker because he couldn't give up being a soldier.

What he rejected at the end of Peace Walker (because he’s a fool) was her hatred of WMDs, as shown by her AI destroying the peace walker. He never even really understood it to begin with, considering he built ZEKE during the game. She literally says in their final meeting “whoever wins will remain on the battlefield.” She had no intention of giving up being a soldier, it’s who she was.

Why was the AI so advanced in PW?
It completely destroyed my immersion.

That doesn't explain anything.

user it jumped in the water and suicided (once again) in an act of laying down weapons.

MGS1: Way overrated, people only like it because they played it as kids. The actual stealth gameplay is maybe 30 minutes out of the runtime of the entire game, the rest is codec calls, shitty bosses, and forced combat that sucks ass hard. The characters are stupid and the writing is shit.
MGS2: Some consider this the peak of stealth gameplay as a whole, I disagree, but it is definitely the peak of fast, arcadey type stealth. Story is convoluted but actually pretty good. Still way too much time spent in codecs though, and the boss fights are a bit better, but some of them still suck. Ending is kino.
MGS3: My personal favorite, because I most enjoy the slow paced stealth that the game offers. It also has the best emergent gameplay due to the more open areas and wide variety of tactical options. BiBo is a much cooler character than Sorrid and Raiden, and I love how the game is actually consistent in its goofy/campy tone rather than trying to be serious all the time like 1 and 2. Also has the most memorable bosses in my opinion.
MGS4: Not as bad as people say. Missions 1,2, and 5 are some of the best sneaking you can do in a game. The characters are still retarded though since most of them are from 1 and 2, and there are a lot of asspulls in the writing. The cutscenes are absurdly long but I still prefer them to long codec calls. The ending is kino as well.
POOPS: Not as bad as everyone says, actually a pretty unique concept that set the stage for PW and MGSV. Shame that the story is so shit that it had to be retconned completely.
PW: Gameplay and level design were hampered by the PSP, and it's story is pretty much just as batshit insane as MGS4. The sneaking is not very good at all, but the shooting was okay. At least it has BiBo and a few kino moments.
MGSV: Probably the best gameplay in the series, but I hate MGSV the most because it's an unfinished trainwreck with an absolutely nonsense story. Probably my biggest gaming disappointment ever.

Laying down nuclear weapons and massive killer robots, yes. Not the end of war as a whole, because that would be foolish.

>Why was the AI so advanced in PW?

Because Kojima is a hack who didn't give fuck about whether or whether not the new lore would fit with the old lore.

Play GZ and V, pretty much nothing but gameplay.

MGS 1-4 (yes, including 4) are all classics

PO, PW, V are all forgettable and meh

>Return to Castle Wolfenstein to a fully rendered 3D game
It was a fully rendered 3D game.
