>Left Alive, the survival action shooter that is known as the spiritual successor of the Front Mission series, released a couple days ago in Japan and things aren’t looking too great for its debut. [Thanks, Hachima.] >When Left Alive released in Japan on February 28, players were able to stream the game with no issues, with the only exception being all event scenes were blocked and disallowed to stream. >However, as of yesterday it appears that players can no longer broadcast Left Alive. In the above notice that was shared by a streamer named fei, it states that the application is not authorized when trying to stream the game through YouTube. >Over at Amazon Japan the game is currently sitting at a staggering low rating of 1.8 out of 5 stars, and these were mostly made prior to the game’s streaming getting blocked. Most of the negative feedback ranges from difficulty to poor design, issues with controls, character motions, and graphics. >It’s also worth noting that the game has been selling for 44% off on Amazon Japan with prices down to 5,050 yen from its standard 8,964 yen price, which is pretty surprising given that it’s hasn’t even been out for three days. The last time we saw a big drop like that was New Gundam Breaker which dropped to 56% off in less than week after its launch last June.
Interdasting. I have be cautiously curious about this game since it’s shadowy announcement but it feels likes there’s been little real information about it.
Benjamin Lopez
>looks like shit >plays like shit >they streamed it 3 times and all streams looked like shit
can't say i'm surprised. It seemed like the devs didn't know what the fuck they were doing and there was too many different games combined into one.
Joseph Campbell
Destined to be another Last Remnant or Nier.
Why is it that, upon release, any flaw is an automatic 0/10 worst game ever do not play! but a couple years go by and people remember that flawed games can still be good and they play it and kind of like it(long after the company that made it filed it away as a failure so you will NEVER get a sequel)
Grayson Collins
Front Mission is cursed. Just do a fucking TRPG, retards.
Julian Perry
>spiritual successor >it's a completely different genre than the game it's inspired by
>WHY IS IT NOT SELLING VERY WELL???
Jack Peterson
>>not multiplatform it's on PC retard, if you're dumb enough to own an Xbone then that's your fault
Jace Lewis
This is exactly the way this game will go. People look back on it and wonder why it didn't get attention. You'll see gaming websites do pieces five years from now about it.
Carson Gomez
>Destined to be another Last Remnant or Nier. >Why is it that, upon release, any flaw is an automatic 0/10 worst game ever do not play! but a couple years go by and people remember that flawed games can still be good and they play it and kind of like it(long after the company that made it filed it away as a failure so you will NEVER get a sequel)
I haven't played Nier, but are you seriously implying Last Remnant was good? Because it was cinematic garbage. The entire point and advantage of turn-based combat is that it allows you finer control over multiple combatants than would be possible in a real-time game. But The Last Remnant is a turn-based game where you can't even control what your units do, you can only give them vague directions.
On top of that, the presentation/interface is quite bad. Most of your time is spent watching excruciatingly slow combat animations. Constant cuts and camera close-up shots of units mean you don't really have a clue of where anyone is in relation to reach other.
The gameplay systems are so ridiculously convoluted and poorly communicated that it feels like a parody of typical jrpgs.
Ryder Moore
it's always brought up as a "flawed gem".
William Miller
>spiritual successor but this is a spinoff, it's set in the same universe lol
the spiritual successor you guys are thinking of is the mech srpg that some of the old devs that left SE are making
Daniel James
>it's always brought up as a "flawed gem". So what's the 'gem' part?
Justin Barnes
>trusting jap PC ports And you call me the dumb one.
It's because they showed the game for the trash it is. You could skip through literally any stream and the guy would be picking up crafting materials, rolling around like it's fucking dark souls or shooting bullet sponge mooks
I'll buy it if players think it has a unique quirk to it or something special to latch onto. If it's literally just a third person shooter with some government espionage story then who cares?
This. Last Remnant fucking sucks. Story is unengaging, characters are boring, combat is utterly annoying. It became a cult classic because there were no JRPGs being released on steam and back then people called it 'Best JRPG on Steam' as if it meant anything other than 'only'
Nicholas Davis
The game just feels like a mishmash of alot of study, doesn't feel genuine.
Aaron Barnes
>gameplay look like shit from people who didn't play it and only watched jap faggots who are utter shit at the game and the ones who played it basically complain that it's too hard for them >gameplay look like shit because it's not a walking simulator, that's what retards expect, just walking through a corridor or open world and shooting brain dead enemies
David Bell
Most complaints can be summed up to: >muh graphics, muh animations >it's too difficult for me so it's shit
David Howard
competent gaymes journalism :^)
Isaiah Ortiz
>spiritual successor of front mission do you even use a mech in this game? didn't see any gameplay of it. sadly, the gameplay looks stiff as fuck in the first place
Zachary Parker
There has to be some kind of redeeming aspect to a game for people to look past some flaws. This game consists of almost nothing but flaws.
It seems good enough if you want a stealth game. And it looks to be difficult.
brainlets are just upset because they can't just shoot everything easily
Logan Green
>It seems good enough if you want a stealth game Not even a proper stealth game from what I've seen, it's a cinematic experience/stealth/cover shooter/crafting sim abomination. Their entire design philosophy is just stealing shit from popular last gen games
Jordan Powell
literally a video right above that proves your full of shit, retard
Owen Thomas
Y-you guys are gonna feel pretty silly when this game ends up being GOTY.
Luke Powell
this game will be forgotten in one or two weeks
Leo Ortiz
You're right, forgot to add /m/ segments so bad they make Evolved look good
Honestly, it sounds like someone who couldn't git gud complained
Wyatt Hill
So is PNO3, and that game is a piece of shit
Josiah Howard
the game is shit because it's too difficult, people expected easy MGS gameplay
>jap streamers play it like complete retards >1/5 no surprise
Noah Brown
I watched jap streamers have the same experience, right down to rolling through mandatory combat sections because there wasn't enough ammo and enemies wouldn't move out the rooms into traps. Everything OP said in that thread is true
i'll pick up the game towards the end of the year on sale because i found the initial premise interesting, although the gameplay i've seen so far has not been really motivating. however, if the story is good enough then it'll be worth it. it doubt it'll be this gens nier though, and i really wish the mech gameplay was more like AC instead of MGS. but i guess they wanted something more grounded never played FM so idk what the mechs in those games are like
>Only FM 5 has friendly fire, so the scenario you describe couldn't occur in FM4 Really? I thought friendly fire came with the squad system, since it brought other units into the engagement brb calling Tsuchida to check
from people who didn't play it and only watched jap faggots who are utter shit at the game and the ones who played it basically complain that it's too hard for them it's not a walking simulator, that's what retards expect, just walking through a corridor or open world and shooting brain dead enemies
The game is about surviving in a war where every single soldiers is actually a stationary turret who is deaf but can see through walls and has the health of a combat tank, the part about making traps means fuck all since they don't move around much if at all.
All of that coupled with a schizophrenic auto save system means you can always end up in a death loop
Colton Anderson
Don't really care about what reviews said, i will play the game and do my own opinion. I've played a lot of "bad games" according to reviewers/the general opinion and a lot weren't even that bad or sometime even good.
Justin Lewis
I hope it'll be as bad-good as Alpha Protocol was. Man, I loved AP.
Noah Wilson
>the health of a combat tank, tanks die in one shot from missile launcher
soldiers take two
Angel White
>has the health of a combat tank don't they have body armor? it's the future after all
Jacob Green
>just walking through a corridor or open world and shooting brain dead enemies One of the early chapters literally has you walking down a corridor shooting braindead bullet sponge enemies, people got this perception of the game from the gameplay footage anyone could fucking see
Lincoln Rogers
the game is supposed to be played in stealth, with you conserving your ammunitions until the proper moment.
Charles Cooper
Body armor shouldn't mean you can tank 3 shots to your unprotected head
Lincoln White
I think this game is gonna be remembered as one of the biggest disappointments of 2019.or 2018 because of what was showed I was fully on-board with the idea that they had with it but it's not looking great.
Owen Miller
>and the ones who played it basically complain that it's too hard for them How is the game too hard? I've watched a few streams and the playable characters are walking tanks made of flesh. You can withstand so many bullets it's a joke.
How the fuck are you going to sneka around a room full of guards looking into every single direction? Becoming fucking invisible? I'm serious here, give me an alternative that allows me to sneak around
Austin Gomez
Why does life have to be so cruel?! All I wanted was an MGSV spiritual successor.. How is it anything like Front Mission?
FM Evolved had more soul. Which is ironic since it was western made.
Carter Sanders
>All I wanted was an MGSV spiritual successor Then you're a retard for looking into Front Mission for that, but then again you're a kojima drone, being outstanding morons is your motto
Robert Robinson
>Destined to be another Last Remnant Last Remnant was a great game though, its only problem outside of being a SaGa game was being a 360 exclusive, once it got on PC sales got a lot better. Left Alive is just trash spitting on a beloved franchise's name.
Matthew Nelson
this isn't front mission you idiot I think the damaged depends on distance or how fast you get hit. At first a guy gets no damage but when he gets close to too multiple enemies it's instakill.
Justin Ramirez
barely anyone knows what Front Mission is anymore And the people that do know don't want a fucking survival shooter. jesus fucking christ SE is at a new level of retardation this generation. Especially with insane amount of survival shooters being released almost every month
Jason Morris
>Then you're a retard for looking into Front Mission
Yeah I'm really digging the tactical turn-based gameplay in Left Alive.
>you're a kojima drone, being outstanding morons is your motto
Kojima is one of the best video game directors of all time who created one of the most successful video games of all time. You literally can't top Hideo Kojima. Can you even name drop anyone whose better than him? You can't. You can't even face reality that he makes perfected sculpted games and you're just a mindless drone who wants to hate something popular.
Resident Evil was never good. To compare it to MGS is insulting to all parties involved.
Benjamin Howard
Yeah, I'll get it purely because it's Front Mission. That said, I'll wait for a discount.
Wyatt Thompson
>Shinji Mikami. >created the RE series
LOL. It didn't break any grounds at all. Where is his awards? What kind of grounds did he break? Nothing.
Nicholas Campbell
...
Levi Peterson
Never knew copying movie plots beat for beat and never creating anything new was how one showed how good they are
Tyler Ross
He directed Resident Evil 4. Which almost every shooter released after the fact has been influenced by.
Henry Lee
>Because it was cinematic garbage. Lol >But The Last Remnant is a turn-based game where you can't even control what your units do, you can only give them vague directions. Except you totally can, brainlet. >On top of that, the presentation/interface is >Constant cuts and camera close-up shots of units mean you don't really have a clue of where anyone is in relation to reach other. quite bad. So you can't even look at the fucking massive radar on your UI and yet you think you can have a word on mechanics or presentation? Nah, you're just another literal brainlet complaining about issues that aren't there. Shut the fuck up before embarassing yourself on the internet, mouthbreather. >complete overhaul to its battle mechanics The only differences between PC and 360 version was giving you the option of using a full party of unique union leaders and relaxing the general difficulty of the game, along with a few bugfixes and removal of exploits, doesn't sound like a "complete" overhaul to me.
Only directed one of the most influential action games of all time
Thomas White
>FM Evolved had more soul Agreed. Wouldn't call it good but I actually liked Evolved. The worst parts were the on-foot sections and plot but the former gave me a sense of scale and the latter was so hilariously retarded that watching it unfold was actually a highlight (fucking zombie wanzers and the E.D.G.E system) The rest was just mediocre TPS with the added bonus of /m/ customisation and limb damage
>needing a radar to get a clear view of the battlefield RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU >this is supposed to be a good thing Do you realize how retarded you sound? The Last Remnant doesn't even have all that many units compared to other turn-based games. It's just atrociously designed.
>One game influenced the industry >Hideo Kojima influenced the entire history of video games with multiple successful titles
Uh huh
Camden Adams
>you don't really have a clue of where anyone is in relation to reach other. >So you can't even look at the fucking massive radar stop being retarded
Hunter Cox
What did Kojima influence? The stealth genre couldn't be more dead.
Luis Cook
>B...BUT I SHOULDN'T NEED A RADAR >Backpedalling this hard Fucking retard, at least have the decency to shut the fuck up. >The Last Remnant doesn't even have all that many units compared to other turn-based games Except it does, give me another turn based RPG where your main party has 18 characters. I don't even know why you're bringing HoMM, an isometric strategy game into this, but you're probably just that retarded to not understand the sheer difference between mechanical design.
Adrian Perry
>being a consolefag >not owning a pc that runs everything regardless of port quality stop posting already
Or do you just mean in terms of cinematic flair, because Yu Suzuki released Shenmue not long after MGS1 and was in development for a hell of a lot longer than MGS1.
James Evans
>Shinji Mikami. Dude is humble too You mean that guy who shamelessly ripped off Alone in the Dark when he was working on Resident Evil and spend years denying it despite the blatant similarities?
>Kojima >breaking ground Metal Gear was the only ground breaking thing he did. The rest of the franchise never managed to catch up with Thief in terms of stealth gameplay.
It's definitely a budget release and it feels like a PS2 game which critics will shit on but I see as a plus. Give it a few patches and I'll buy it when it's $20.
Nolan Smith
>I don't even know why you're bringing HoMM
>I don't understand why you're comparing this turn-based tactics to the Last Remnant, a turn-based tactics game So you are retarded then.
>give me another turn based RPG where your main party has 18 characters Most wrpgs have more than that amount if you summon creatures, and they still let you control everyone.
Kojima influenced literally no games, Shenmue and RE4 did more for cinematic games than any Kojima game ever did, Thief and Hitman also influenced more stealth games than any Kojima game ever did
John Sanchez
>WRPG-kun There goes any pretense of actual discussion in this thread.
RE1 and AitD are honestly only really similar on a surface level.
Also, trying to defend Kojima and then shit on others for "ripping off" shit is fucking hilarious. CONSIDERING KOJIMA ALMOST GOT SUED FOR IT.
Joshua Brooks
>At first a guy gets no damage but when he gets close to too multiple enemies it's instakill. Doesn't look like that. Seen a map streamer tank a full mags from some armour guy so he mess around shotgunning
Thomas White
Not to mention, MGS4 AND PEACE WALKER EVEN WERE INFLUENCED BY RE4.
>MGS4 is OTS >Peace Walker has QTEs
Tyler Roberts
Was there ever a reason given for him being so fucking angry? The guy snapped at everything
Kayden Martinez
He was FM's very own Kamille.
Elijah Mitchell
tbqh I'm relieved. I have too many damn games I wanna play. Any more good games and I'd never get around to them.
Oliver Brown
I remember seeing the concept art by Yoji Shinkawa some year(s) back and I like his art so naturally I was interested. Haven't heard a single sound from it since then. Nothing. Nothing on E3, no commercials, nothing on any game news site, nothing on twitch etc. What the FUCK went wrong? It's Square Enix and Yoji Shinkawa. How the FUCK do you fuck that up?
>CONSIDERING KOJIMA ALMOST GOT SUED FOR IT Is that the music thing still? That's like blaming Mikami for the shit dualshock soundtrack when it was composed by a deaf guy who used ghost writers and got sued for it
Connor King
No. John Carpenters lawyers were going to take Kojima to court before JC told them not to.
Joseph Long
Re4 literally had codec calls, don't play dumb
Not to mention literally every action game of the past 10 years usually has faggots barking exposition in your ear like this now, even if it's moved from a dedicated screen to realtime
Jason Russell
>RE1 and AitD are honestly only really similar on a surface level.
Alone in the Dark was the first game to ever use fixed camera angles and tank controls. This is a very specific control scheme and camera system created by AiTD. RE obviously copied it. Even the combat system is copied straight from AITD, with having to press a separate buttion to go into 'action mode'.
Not only that, it copied many other things, even how certain areas and items are designed, right down to the smallest details. Both AitD and RE don't show your health bar during gameplay, which is highly unusual. Both AITD and RE show you a 'take or leave this item' prompt with a rotating 3D image of the image when you loot something. Both RE and AITD have dark areas that need to be lit up. Etcetera. The similarities are too blatant and too many to count.
Front mission was dead over a decade ago. 5 was the last release and was both the series swan song as well as the magnum opus
Easton Powell
>mech game I fucking wish
Landon Hernandez
The sound design for this game is very disappointing. The graphics look decent but there's just too much silence. It takes away the immersion and the lackluster gun sounds plus poor voice acting makes it feel amateurish.
Jonathan Garcia
>those graphics What the FUCK
Tyler Garcia
>teleports on top of the wanzer because he activated the foot >wanzer takes up nearly half the screen when he's in it >painfully sluggish outside the short range dash and long boost >vehicles explode then COMPLETELY FUCKING DISAPPEAR
it's in the link user posted, like 10 seconds after the video starts, walks right up to the mech and teleports on top to get in
Connor Stewart
Link itself is timestamped, starts with him walking to the wanzer
Grayson Scott
/m/ guy says that this happens through buldings even so you can be in a safe room chilling at the top of a building but get that nonstop because there’s a guard somewhere in an alley nearby
Ian Harris
As someone that sucks at strategy games, what am I in for with FM3?
>As someone that sucks at strategy games, what am I in for with FM3?
>strategy game It's just a series of tactical turn-based battles, user.
Jayden Jenkins
It's pretty easy, don't worry about it. The hardest part is the mech building but even that is a hell of a lot easier in FM than in something like Armored Core.
Jose Jones
An srpg that's heavier on the rpg than the s Best in-game internet ever Really innocuous route-split early on so make sure to replay it
It's not really representative of the series as a whole so check out the rest whether you enjoy FM3 or not
Matthew Cox
Given how much SE is going out of its way to damage control this clusterfuck no way in hell this is selling, if they are trying to stop word of mouth they know this game is fucked, not even Quiet Man got this level of damage control
Matthew Kelly
Yeah. They prohibited to stream this disaster.
Carter Williams
Quiet Man was a disposable product from former big name developers trying to make a cinematic game no one cared about. This is a $60 spinoff they tried to actually make money with in a far less disposable manner despite it looking like a PS3 game with animations and design that don't scratch AAA.
Wyatt Richardson
Heard it only has 3 wanzers, is my robotfu one of them?
The Yakuza, Valkyria, and Tales ports have been great to alright. This is a Square port though so i can understand your reasoning.
Connor Perry
Front mission is dead.
It's a shame, because they clearly had good ideas here, but needed much more time and budget to make them work.
Sebastian White
They probably had the budget. The problem is that the dev team was apparently a bunch of newbies to the industry with a director too ambitious and not wanting to care for Front Mission itself so much as using as a vessel for his game.
Ayden Clark
Could've had Deus Ex, Anachronox, Torment, Wasteland 2, Fallout, Elex, The Technomancer, MARS War Logs, EvE Online, Rebel Galaxy, Shadowrun, etc, as examples of Western Sci-Fi RPGs. Also Mass Effect isn't Star Wars fantasy, it heavily draws from Babylon 5. youtube.com/watch?v=7vIVFgXaxsU
Brayden Bennett
Most of those Jap boss fights were good but cmon with Virgil that was as generic as boss fights go.
