The neutral in Smash is literally 3x more complex and interactive than any other fighting game because of how variable positioning can be. The matrix of decisions you can make at any given moment is objectively wider than any other fighting game. On top of that less real confirms make strings more interesting and if you're anal about hitting lots of buttons Melee has easily the most demanding tech out of any fighter. There are so many fighting games are out there, and so many share mechanical/philosophical similarities. It seems fairly obvious that communities usually aren't too upset about being dropped because there's probably still a similar game in the lineup that has a decent crossover in playerbase anyway. Since Melee will never get a proper spiritual successor (a shame Slap City isn't faster) it kinda stands as it's own sub-sub-genre in a way.
It just seems weird to to bring up how communities usually accept being dropped more gracefully than this, when a fairer comparison is probably a hypothetical situation where the line up is released and, for example, there are no anime fighters. Then suddenly there's a whole style of game with zero representation, and a specific taste straight up not being catered for. And yeah, tough shit, they would have to take that L, not trying to make a point that there would be anything wrong with that situation. But surely in that scenario we WOULD be seeing a good amount of salt because a lot of people would find themselves in the same situation Melee fans are in now, whereas when just one game is dropped that isn't really the case.

Like I say, I don't think the complaining is justified, just that the comparisons people use don't seem completely fair.

The Melee community's attitude is because of the strong grassroots local tournament scene and the twitch audience, that they deserve to be an automatic selection in Evo, and deserve more respect than they're getting.

Which is hilarious, because it's as obvious as the jiggle on a DOA game on what Mr Wizard respects. If Melee wanted in, and they weren't complete retards about it, they could have done it easily.

Another aspect that isn’t talked about is that Melee players are much more accepting of Ultimate than the other 2 smash games between. If other SF games had their own separate community with thousands of people you would probably see 2 Street Fighters on Mainstage. One of the big arguments for 2 smash games on EVO is how different the communities are.

The last time Mr. Wizard took Melee off Sunday, he whined about how no one was buying Sunday passes and immediately reneged the next year. The Smash 4 community just saved their money and watched the stream. Sunday is where his bottom line is most vulnerable and only having 4 games there ain't gonna help. Melee probably still isn't ever coming back, but he ain't gonna be happy.

bbtag is nothing like a blazblue game, guilty gear and blazblue are very little alike and neither are that comparable to unist and mk11 isn't even really like mk9 and maybe 10
samurai shodown isn't known but it doesn't show signs of being a lot like 5 special
or even sfv is not really much like sfiv except for the basic movements

Melee's next chance is to either buy it's way in over Nintendo's objections, or a nostalgia pick in a weak year, like SF2 turbo.

It probably won't come back due to the setup hassles. The only way I can see it happening is if the genre is absolutely decimated in 2020 but even token support of games like SC6 would keep them afloat until then.

Pissing off Nintendo is DIRECTLY responsible for Melee not being at evo, even though it has a big viewer audience. Active players moving around is a non factor.
