Nope. 100% vanilla with 1 exception, there is an encrypted password plugin to prevent people from logging in as you. Use /register when you login for the first time. You only have to log in once every 24 hours after that if your ip stays the same

I went old camp, but obviously you gotta do as many quests as you can for everyone you can to get those sweet sweet learning points. After beating the game I felt like New Camp probably woulda been a better choice but to get there you have to go through that asshole running the rice paddies who tries to enslave you so that soured me on them.

For the longest time there was next to no reason to go there apart from farming pork chops or glowstone.
Then one update they forced you to go there for the 'main quest'
It's gotten more uses later on, but it is a pretty boring and samey place to explore.

Gameplay wise- it's kind of shit.

The end and the Nether suffer from the exact same thing. You're looking for a fortress/city and everything else is not only about as safe as the overworld, at some points it's even easier, and it's also very boring and samey. You aren't even rewarded with cool biomes or sunken ships. Fortresses and Cities are cool but they often are quick in and out things we're you're only looking for elytra/blaze spawner.

someone who you can look at the builds of and be inspired by. someone who you can hope to inspire.

I virtually never die in the regular world (since the combat update, enderman have become actually difficult until you've got enchanted shit, however), as in, I can go for literal in-game weeks without dying in the overworld, but not even one in-game day in the nether on average

even with fully enchanted shit, a horde of angry piggies can fuck you up real quick, plus it's easier to fall to your death or get stuck in lava

user pigmen are neutral. they don't attack unless you attack first.

if you are a clumsy fuck and fall in lava all the time just drink a fire res pot. it makes you immune to lava. you have to go through the nether to get one but they can be life savers when you're making a nether bridge to get to the fortress faster or whatever.

Idea is good but reality is bad. I hate searching for fortresses and overall there is nothing to do. All could be improved if withers and blazes were spawnable outside of fortresses, but meh. Also fuck searching for Endermen in the Overworld to get pearls.

I always loved building little RPG worlds on multiplayer servers. I did a lot of stuff based on TES for awhile. Would farm the in game store money, buy a bunch of land, build entire towns and then try to get players to join it. Also built dungeons, shops, all that fun stuff. Good times.

The functionalities the nether got were good, but design wise its lacking. Where's the burnt up trees? Where's the hell dungeons with demons in them? The nether fortresses are boring, and hell is mostly useless nether brick. Like yea they added the lava/magma blocks but so what... add some structure.

Some of the game's limitations are really upsetting. Combat mainly, then there's also the obvious performance issues. If not for these two mods would have made it the best game ever.
Been playing with Electrobob's Wizardry lately and while it's a lot of fun I can't help but see the flaws with the combat ruin the potential. Some of the spells shouldn't make you as powerful as they do but since combat is largely just running at thing until you or thing dies it's a hindrance

the idea of nether forts is cool, but considering that terrain gen fucks them over (with them being absolutely buried most of the time and the only clue is a few lone pillars dipping into giant lava pools) it's too tedious to actually hunt and explore them.

there's also zero ores or incentives to actually mine in it. You either go there to find a fort to continue towards The End, to speed up overworld travel, or if you need a shit ton of netherrack, glowstone, or lava.

thematically it's neat to have a "hell world", but realistically it should be a lot more dangerous than it is. Zombie Pigmen should be hostile by default, or at least make Blazes a lot more common outside of nether forts. or they could introduce an "intense heat" mechanic that makes it unsafe to hang around in the nether for extended periods of time or else you start to slowly lose health and hunger without proper enchants

I think back to the days, playing the free creative mode in 2008 or 2009. The time we could talk to Notch, to the times of just relaxing with a few of those around on Yea Forums. Calm 1, 2 and 3 all played over and over as we built on a random server. The slow progression of the game, kept me in, the constant conversations, experiences and relaxed time playing.

Nothing compares, as I've aged much since then. Perhaps I should move on completely...

Minecraft's only actual flaw is that it's an amazing game with very little vanilla content. The Nether was 10/10 in that regard because it added dangerous shit for the player to explore and exploit. The novelty of cave diving for resources wears off quick, but the Nether expanded on those feelings of uncertainty and adventure.

The game is paid and there are no demos are cracked versions that I know of.
