I wish there was an option to depose both Caesar and Lanius to take over the Legion yourself. It would be impractical with the NCR and you basically just replace House with the Yes Man ending, but it would have been thematically perfect to be just another usurper for the Roman tyranny.

The Legion is a very "philosophical" faction, and that's really their only moral saving grace (unless you're a misogynist or a hardcore authoritarian). It would've been nice if there were characters that spoke to Caesar's core ideological goals and addressed how the NCR could never understand them (and thus would never suitably advance past their conflict), but Caesar name-dropping Hegel is already a bit much for an aRPG where you go around recruiting sex bots and killing junkies.

The closest you get is House, who really only says that any philosophy Caesar has is completely undermined by the absolutely barbarous methods he uses to enact it.

The biggest flaw of the legion is the same flaws as Rome, they had 1 great leader to push them towards an economy built upon slavery and war, the problem is once you hit the ends of the Earth you have to turn around and then you cannibalize yourself. I fuckin love the legion so much but they are the only faction in NV with no future, the same outcome happens whether you choose Yes man or house. The NCR is unfortunately the most likely to win even in the end because they just have to figure out a way to disable your securtron army and then you're SOL

I remember Sawyer once said that he was annoyed by how people fixated on the misogyny and violence of the Legion instead of thinking about the NCR in the larger context of the setting. There's no reason to believe that the NCR, absolutely struggling to just to control a few frontier towns in the wasteland, is going to be any more stable long-term than the governments that were destroyed before the war. When you think about how shallow and short-sighted it is to want to rebuild a conservative idea of America "just because," something ridiculously radical like a reexamination of Caesar might be something worthwhile.

People always seem to forget that Caesar was hated by the conservative factions of Rome. This wasn't because Caesar was into civil rights or multiculturalism or any of that, but because he grew to hate the idea of continuing traditions and civic institutions "just because they're old and we have to respect everything that's old." Not a surprise that he was willing to tell all of the old conservative men in the Senate to either bow to him or to fuck off entirely.

If you also dig deeper into the name in the context of the larger setting, Arcade should be the one running the Legion. Even if he hates Caesar and the Legion and everything about Rome, he was raised from birth to be that kind of leader. It's why he becomes filled with rage when he first meets Caesar since Caesar is ultimately a fraud.
