Why can't Switch play the RE2 remake?

Runs too poorly on regular Xbox One / PS4 that it's probably not possible to downgrade enough to get it running even at 30fps on the Switch. For a game to realistically be ported to Switch it needs to be 1080p/60 on PS4/Xbox One just to get it at 720p30 or lower on Switch.
Ethan Bennett
Why would you play a survival horror on a handheld?
Dylan Morris
Why do nintendo fanboys constantly beg for ports? You have the best first-party video game maker in the entire lifetime and history of video games and you beg for ports? The fuck?
Fucking hell, beg for more first-party games you dumb dolts.
Angel James
because the reality is if you truly love video games you want more than 2 games per year
Jace Perez
Why beg for ports of games you could have played on Steam ages ago like Saints Row The Turd?
Oh it's because none of you guys have a PC to play games on.
David Williams
I imagine it could run it but it would be a botched version like Doom and Wolfenstein.
Adam Rogers
Switch performance was so pisspoor with RE7 that you have to rent it and play it via cloud. It's a shame too, because RE Engine is basically next-gen MT Framework, so it just goes to show how far behind the Switch is performance-wise even after accounting for being portable.
Levi Watson
>When Switchers told me this was playable FPS for an action game
Leo Parker
The best version of RE1 is on the DS.
Nathaniel Walker
most PS4 games including "game of the year 2018" god of war run at similar framerate
Hudson Johnson
I'm sure Switch can run RE2re and DMCV just fine
Cooper Bennett
A lot of things make sense for a portable console, like rpgs, or roguelikes, resident evil 2 however doesn't really benefit much from it and it would look so bad it's hardly worth it.
Andrew Carter
>Still want ports of REmake, 0 and 4
uuuuuuuuuuuuuh
Eli Flores
>Runs too poorly on regular PS4
Anyone who thinks the Switch can run RE2 is retarded, and this statement is of a similar level of retardation. It runs phenomenally on the regular PS4.
Xavier Robinson
It probably could run re2 but it would look like shit. Get a job and buy another console or a pc if you wanna play it manchild
Jordan Bell
damn that's embarrassing, imagine begging for a game your device can't even run
Robert Sanchez
>B-b-but sony!!!
Pathetic
Alexander White
Difference is they don't do it at 480p with bottom-level graphical quality.
Jackson Cooper
Those would probably look and run ok, I'll admit you probably lose a lot of the appeal of survival horror if you play while in a small screen, but playing mercenaries like that actually sounds pretty cool.
Robert Scott
Good thing the engines are getting more and more optimized for the switch, versus these early ports.
Lincoln Ramirez
Good luck with that
Christian Harris
LITERALLY.FUCKING.WHO.
Ethan Flores
Who is she? A nintendo dev or a whore CM?
Tyler Thomas
OR because some people haven't played the game before and want to play it on the console they use alot/the most.
Not an argument
Imagine being a console warrior and thinking that a multimillion dollar company cares about you..
How do you know that they are poor? Why can't they have a game on a system that they like? Why are ports bad when Nintendo does it?
Blake Barnes
>Imagine being a console warrior and thinking that a multimillion dollar company cares about you..
yes imagine being (you) faggot
Owen Rivera
Something specific the resident evil, dunno what the title was.
Nathan Brooks
All of you shouldn't underestimate power of nintendo port
Evan Allen
She's right.
>amazon putting physical retailers and mom and pop stores out of business
>paying ZERO (0) in taxes
Why are americans so cucked by megacorporations where they think this is okay?
Adrian Jenkins
Bullshit that it does you cocksucker. This shit dips to 22 fps on the regular.
Justin Harris
Because it’s trash. Babbys Fischer price console for s.0y boy bing bing wahoo faggots. Trash. I love watching them beg for ports on their port machine. Trash.
Ryder Rodriguez
Imagine wanting to play videogames and only having a nintendo console.
Leo Jenkins
>It runs phenomenally on the regular PS4
If you have low standards, yes. But not everyone does.
Ethan James
Imagine seething this hard. Sorry kid, you fell for the meme and bought an underpowered tablet for children. You’re just going to have to cope.
Jaxson Brooks
People complain about Amazon not paying taxes, but they aren't actually proposing any changes to the laws that prevent them from paying taxes(like the research and development credit).
That's why nothing happens. It's just faux outrage.
Thomas Scott
>Why can't they have a game on a system that they like?
Never said they couldn't
>Why are ports bad when Nintendo does it?
Never said nintendo ports are bad. The game will just look like shit
Easton Martinez
that wasn't a port, it was a demake
Ryder Anderson
LMAO
Carson Martin
Right?
Things are only going to get worse once the PS5 and Xbox Two come out
Jaxon Bennett
They've been begging for Persona 5 PS3/PS4 (3 year old game) for years. Longer if you count for Persona 5 begging for 3DS before the PS3 announcement. Port begging is console wars and faggotry of all kind that invites PC Mustard Race shitposting too. It should be bannable offense to portbeg on any forum, it reeks of child crying at a supermarket crying until they get what they want.
Angel Smith
>Fucking hell, beg for more first-party games you dumb dolts.
This.
Aaron Collins
The RE7 Cloud Edition was just Capcom being lazy.
You do know Capcom asked Nintendo to increase the Switch's power so it could run the RE Engine right? Guess what Capcom has done with it? Jack shit
Carson Scott
its probably gonna be DS/3DS levels of support then with companies shoving handheld level titles out the door. Switch will most likely be over 40 million by the time those come out, and no way in hell are third parties ignoring that gravy train
Jeremiah Gutierrez
>Guess what Capcom has done with it? Jack shit
They aren't miracle workers, user. Blame Nintendo for releasing yet another last-gen "console".
David James
>Capcom asks Nintendo to make console more powerful to run an engine
>Nintendo says "OK"
>Capcom proceeds to do nothing with it
Someone is at fault here and it ain't the system
Leo Roberts
>Capcom asked Nintendo to increase the Switch's power so it could run the RE Engine right
wow, how shitty of Nintendo not to flip the magical switch to make the console stronger, fucking assholes bullying poor Capcom
Samuel Mitchell
Maybe they didn't get the requested power they wanted?
Michael Ross
I find that hilarious.
>Nintendo:"Hey Capcom, we're making this console/handheld hybrid, wanna make games for it?"
>Capcom: "Only if you make it a tiny bit more stronger so that our new engine can work on it."
>Nintendo: "Done. Now it can run your newest engine. Now how about those games?"
>Capcom: "Sure, here's Street Fighter 2."
>Nintendo: "Wait what?"
Alexander Rodriguez
...But they did, Nintendo admitted the Switch got more RAM because Capcom asked for it so it could run the engine
>technobuffalo.com
>Capcom’s Masaru Ijuin explained during the conference that part of the need for that memory is about optimizing the RE Engine to be able to operate in both docked and portable states. The Switch’s flexibility is a huge selling point for consumers, but it seems like it might be a big hurdle for developers.
Kevin White
>System cannot run it but system is not at fault.
Christian Hernandez
Don't you think they would have said something if that were the case?
Nolan White
the same thing happened to Vita, a marginal RAM incrase for games at the cost of multitasking
except ram isn't the issue this time around, it's the pitiful CPU and GPU on embedded SoC
Grayson Gutierrez
>Developer asked for increase of power so it could run it
>Nintendo complies
>Developer does nothing with that increase of power
Are you retarded?
Jordan King
Why would Capcom specifically ask for more RAM then
William Evans
Imagine being so butthurt that your overpriced, underpowered kiddy handheld wont play big boy games that you blame Capcom.
Dominic Stewart
>user thinks it’s more likely that Capcom would pass up oodles of free money for no reason rather than the fact that the Switch is too weak to make the effort of porting and optimizing.
Are you?
James Lewis
easier porting i figure
Angel Scott
>Literally defending Capcom for being lazy
Don't you have some overpriced Gamecube games to be shilling to me
Noah Collins
Also, the unsung issue for 3rd parties is the cartridges. There's a bunch of 3rd party devs sitting on Switch versions of their games because the current carts cost too much right now, it's one of the reasons the Spyro Trilogy hasn't been officially announced for the Switch despite being leaked three times.
Dominic Gomez
That looks amazing for PS3 tier hardware.
Daniel King
>Developer LITERALLY ASKS Nintendo to make the system stronger for them
>Capcom half asses support anyway
How is this anybody but Capcom's fault?
John Rodriguez
>Companies pass on making millions of dollars because they are lazy.
Cameron Gutierrez
See
Cameron Ortiz
>Company instead of putting in effort for a newer Switch game, instead jacks up price of Gamecube games made by superior developers over a decade ago for quicker and easier profit
Jeremiah Cruz
because that's ONE of the factors that'd be needed
just clearing the RAM checkpoint would not be enough for it to work
Benjamin Hall
See
Eli Edwards
Answer the question. Do you honestly believe the only thing preventing an RE2 port that would sell like gangbusters is laziness.
Julian Johnson
Capcom would have asked for a stronger GPU and CPU in that case instead of more RAM
You're making it seem like Capcom didn't think this through
Jonathan Scott
Because Nintendo only does rehashes. Retarded nintendosexuals have been buying the same games with shiny grafix for three decades now.
Michael Thompson
Could the Switch even run the original Re2? Topkek
Jack Morris
Imagine being over thirteen and owning a switch
Christopher Perry
They are lazy, they know nintendo money is a sure thing. You just need to look at doom to know what a competent port is. Capcom is just being shitty, i still remember the resident evil 4 HD port, it runned worse than resident evil 5, 6 and revelations 2 on PC.
Jacob Moore
>You're making it seem like Capcom didn't think this through
that's unthinkable, everyone knows Capcom are the masters of foresight and profitable business decisions
Ethan Clark
Yes
Capcom has very clearly shown its easier to port games made over a decade ago to it instead. They're giving RE0 the only physical release for God's sake on it compared to RE4 you think they actually care about actually supporting the system?
Lucas Howard
This is a real argument and a real flaw of the switch
Justin Sullivan
Maybe Capcom hasn't understood the Switch yet?
I mean, Capcom's engines are pretty fucking versatile.NT Framework ran on 2010 phones and even the fucking 3DS
Anthony Moore
I doubt it
The days of DS-style third party support are gone thanks to quick and easy mobile gaming money
At best, the only major third party support we'll see will come from few watered down spinoffs like the Wii got.
I expect a steady stream of indie ports and panty quests, however. Hard to say if those will satisfy your average Switch owner during the release droughts.
Kayden Rivera
>hasn't understood
Switch uses a Tegra chip that's not only been used before, but is also as documented as it can possibly be
Nathaniel Ross
>The days of DS-style third party support are gone thanks to quick and easy mobile gaming money
The mobile game market is oversaturated and hard to break into. Thats why there's so many mobile ports on Switch
I still expect 3DS/DS level support because shareholders will have a fucking fit if they ignore 40 million people
Brody Jackson
But games get more optimized on consoles as devs learn tricks and whatnot
Nathan King
The Tegra chip was mostly used on the Shield, and nobody bought a fucking Shield
Aiden Rogers
>Are you retarded?
I'm not the one expecting current-gen games to run on last-gen hardware.
Blake Long
Yes, the resources to make a competent port are more that what they are willing to put on the port.
Hudson Long
Fun Fact: The Switch has newer tech than the PS4/X1
Angel Hall
The switch is the only next gen console, Sony and MS are utterly destroyed that they're rushing to push out a new console to catch up to nintendo.
Nolan Sanchez
that used to be the case when hardware was "underpowered". even in 360 and PS3 era.
Compare early and late PS3 games - early ones look like a bit more fleshed out PS2 titles while late titles like The Last of Us aren't even comparable graphics fidelity wise.
In PS4's case, games from 5 years ago barely look worse than ones produced today.
Adrian Price
Actually in that case performance on PS4 games has gotten WORSE because of devs now having to optimize it for both the Pro and base models
Ryder Evans
Even the Xbone struggles with RE engine, the Switch doesnt stand a chance in hell at running it without it being a 360p sub 30fps title, and would it honestly be worth it at that point?
Dominic Nguyen
It was last-gen version, without scanned faces and such.
Jacob Ross
The Xbone also struggles with Doom with its sub 810p and inconsistent framerate yet here we are
Landon Wilson
>yet here we are
400p and 20fps, exactly his point.
Jackson Richardson
>Capcom pushed Nintendo to put 4GBs of RAM to be able to run RE Engine.
>RE Engine games can't run anyway
Kek.
Aaron Moore
that actually isn't the case
Sony makes devs build games with OG PS4 as the focus point and only add more fidelity to PRO enhanced versions, it's not the case of games getting stripped down to run on OG PS4
Jaxon Stewart
I'd take anything from Capcom other than another one of their half assed old ports
Zachary Price
>Even the Xbone struggles with RE engine
If you think it's about power you are are retarded. Remember when Marvel vs Capcom 3 could barely run on PC? Capcom has a long history of incompetence
Asher Martin
810p at 30-60 fps downgraded to 400-480p at 20-30
you actually prove his point
Levi Wilson
>*Capcom doesn't put in effort to make RE Engine games run
Fixed
Robert Harris
Does it even matter if both versions run like complete ass
You'd be better off with the PS4 version. Or the more logical choice of course, PC
Nicholas Hernandez
>both versions run like complete ass
Please stop. 20fps and 400p not even comparable to xbox one which hitting 60fps pretty often and always above switch in resolution.
Nathaniel Reed
Newer =/= better. If it did, this thread wouldn't exist.
Aiden Jenkins
>which hitting 60fps pretty often
for a nanosecond sure
If you can deal with the Xbox One's shitty performance you can probably deal with the Switch's
Jack Bennett
At the same time Doom had a lot of visual cuts made to it to be portable, and that's not even getting into the framerate side of things where the docked experience is the worst of the home console versions.
There still has to be better experiences on Switch or other platforms you can play these games on then waiting for a terrible conversion, overpriced conversion for weak hardware.
If it's not about power then what is it? I've truthfully never paid attention to MVC3 on PC, but I dont think not being able to run RE2 on switch is a matter of incompetence so much as it'd be impossible on a technical level.
Matthew Clark
hey you said last gen hardware not me. Just spitting out the facts
Kayden Nelson
>because the reality is if you truly love video games you want more than 2 games per year
If you truly love videogames you also have more than one console.
Christopher Price
I'd actually prefer if Capcom made something new for the Switch like a new Battle Network game. But of course that's not going to fucking happen so all we can ask for are ports
Jaxson Hughes
>dealing with 40-60 fps is the same as dealing with 20-30
what fucking drugs are you on? i want some
Cooper Hernandez
Inconsistent framerate is inconsistent framerate.
If you're playing on consoles you lack having standards to begin with
David Brown
>hey you said last gen hardware not me
It is last gen hardware in terms of power. Switch is less powerful than a PS3.
Zachary Richardson
That's not how it works. Only memelords also believe its weaker than the PS3
Grayson White
That would mean port-beggars are nothing more than fanboys.
Jonathan White
Switch should be on-par with, if not slightly stronger than, the Wii U and PS3.
Noah Harris
This was a spin off, technically.
Austin Adams
More like
>Capcom: Make sure to get the latest Nvidia Tegra X2 & not be cheap & get the outdated Tegra X1
>Nintendo: Nope
No REmake 2 for you
Luke Garcia
The Tegra X2 is not optimized for anything gaming related right. Right now its being used for fucking CARS
Also Did you want the Switch to be 599 USD?
Capcom never said that too
Robert Thompson
I know this may come as a shocker to you, but there are actually more companies making games for the Switch than Nintendo themselves.
Brandon Evans
>thinking re2 can run on the bing bing wahoo station
Owen King
>If it's not about power then what is it?
The thing about "power" is that with lots of "power" you don't need optimization, you can half-ass the port and let the raw "power" take care of the rest, that's what happened with Resident Evil 4 HD, you could play the batman games on Ultra, but RE4HD would barely run. To optimize a game port you need TIME and MONEY, the thing is that the team of 10 people you may need working on a RE2 port of the switch for 6 months could be working on the next monster hunter for ps4, it's not that there's no profit to be made, it's just that the same resources can generate more revenue on other projects. You just need to look at the multiplats from the 360/ps3 era where the ps3, being more powerful, just got the worse part. Thinking it's all about "power" is a mistake, if power was all that it's needed shit like Batman Arkham Knight would had never been an issue on PC. What we know is that the engine used for Doom had Switch ports in mind, while the RE one apparently didn't. This makes me think that Capcom didn't had faith on the switch but wanted to remain in good terms with nintendo, asked for some changes to nintendo, hoped it would flop, developed an engine that was never intended to have ports and now that the console sold like 40 million units they can't do big seller ports because it's too expensive and slow to start moving games in that direction. So yeah, Switch has shitty hardware, BUT as someone who shitposted a lot on the Arkham Knight threads i can just point my fingers at Capcom. Remember, SF2 on switch outsold SF5 at some point, that should tell you how retarded Capcom was.
Andrew Gomez
i mainly use a 144hz screen with my pc
anything above 30 is fine - not great, but fine enough to play it without it being an eyesore
20-30 on the other hand is abyssmal
David Torres
>This makes me think that Capcom didn't had faith on the switch but wanted to remain in good terms with nintendo
That clearly didn't work because Nintendo dropped distribution of their games in Europe and now refuses to advertise their games outside Japan. Nintendo is very not happy about their shoddy Switch support
Daniel Thompson
I certainly hope that's the case, and Capcom actually starts taking notice. Even in the 6th gen they were willing to make new games for the Wii like Zack & Wiki or TvC. Their treatment of the switch by comparison has been abysmal.
Mason Butler
*7th gen
Daniel Scott
>TvC
Now that's a shitty HD port i would love.
Isaiah Diaz
Capcom thought the Switch was going to fail and likely laid the groundwork for the RE2 remake before they started taking the Switch seriously.
Benjamin Torres
So when are they planning to take the Switch seriously? It's been 2 years already.
Anthony Hughes
JUST
Grayson Powell
>Capcom thought the Switch was going to fail
Can you blame them?
Blake Howard
Why would anyone take Nintendo’s shitty underpowered tablet seriously? It’s trash. Trash for manchildren.
