Good old days

When servers were hosted by actual players and not EA. When CS:Source, TF2 and GMOD was alive. Playing on fun maps, downloading mods from gamebanana... Chilling on your favourite server with great community and admins. When normalfags didnt play vidya and no1 cared about politics...

We live in an NPC world now, user.

Take me back, brother

bUt MaTcHmAkIng iS fUn, nothing better than playing a competitive game with a bunch of nobodies you don't have the time to communicate a plan to and the best strategy is to mute the whole team and play like they don't exist, all because "wow guys lmao u get matched with a TEAM, you don't need to have friends"

this but unironically

I had so much fun with zombie maps.

>jump into barricade
>press Use
>spin
>get pushed out the other side into the defenders

Attached: 1371490740989.gif (500x324, 500K)

>get matched with a 3rd world monkey that doesnt speak english
>ragequit
>uninstall

Zombie panic was my shit, the maps were genuinely scary for a 13 year old and I shit my pants hiding behind couches and vending machines. Even hiding on the roof on THAT map was scary because the sky was so gloomy and you had to constantly check 4 spots they could climb up + only good players could get up there so you only had 2-3 other guys as backup

league is even funnier
>main way to orient in the game is by keyboard and mouse
>no way to communicate outside of using keyboard
>if team doesn't have a thorough idea of what everyone is doing, there is no way to communicate to worse players what to do
>no reason for people to be polite as in lower elo you literally do not ever meet someone you've played with twice
"wow why is our game toxic"

Pfft, fuck Zombie Panic, Zombie Master was the real shit.

zombie escape > zombie mode

>no way to communicate outside of using keyboard
there's pings to communicate information, so it boggles the imagination why people STILL don't use mute
the stupid meme word """"""""""toxic""""""""" was literally invented by retards who don't know how to find their mute button for some fucking reason

i agree with your general point though

All of those are still alive. Mourn some things that are actually dead like Zombie Master, The Hidden, Obsidian Conflict, Synergy (was always shit though), select others.

TF2 is alive though. It's in the top 10 most played on Steam, 40% of its servers are community servers and many of them even still run mods.
Come join the Yea Forums partyvan next time it gets made

All that mod creativity lost to time, now we're stuck with payed DLC skins and shitty indie games that was shittier than most mods in 2008.

The days of community run games are over. The future is ranked matchmaking, and its not a good thing.

I wasted the early years being a competitive gamerâ„¢. I wish I could go back and experience the fun stuff.

TF2 gets worse with every update, and it's still slowly dying

the concept is this,
if i say to you to do something, you must question it because you don't know whether i'm more skilled or knowledgable than you.
resulting in me having to explain myself.
by every additional message you are at the same time playing the game, and messaging is imparting your gameplay, meaning messaging is consistently infuriating /or causing more tension.

the problem isn't that you can't communicate with pings.
it's that you can communicate SUPERFICIALLY, but doing anything that is a more advanced/deep play is impossible without impairing your team by messaging. and coordinating plays is extremely fun.
solo-q is basically all managing your shit team, not playing together with them.

my problem mainly is that the "team" is a crutch, it doesn't improve the fun of the game 95% of the time.
ADDITIONALLY, league has been pushing more and more for every role in the team to have impact, meaning less carry potential. that said, i have not played in a year because i got banned twice over.

now the reversal - voice chat.
i do a deep, slav accent voice in a confident manner, tell my team to fucking go and do something and they fucking do it (this works in cs:go flawlessly, for an example). simple. some asshole types in chat, another asshole misjudges whether you're being rude because he's half french and boom, have fun

Damn right you did. Gmod was springing, Zombie master was fun as fuck. Synergy had a few good maps but Obsidian Conflict was definitely better. The Hidden was really fun especially when invisible bastard would skewer your teammates along the walls.

Battlefield mods were doing great too, Forgotten hope 1, FH2 especially with its 128 player servers (128p Air battles and sea battles/Omaha beach was a gamergasm) BF2142 starwars mod, Shit you missed out on a lot of good stuff.

I mean the CSS zombie mods you retard boomer

They're not lost. They still exist. Zombie Master even got a redux/spin-off in 2016. None of you bother to put together a Steam group and run servers to get some games going. You don't care like the general public doesn't care.

Don't let that micropenis of your get caught on the door on your way out zoomer.

Dude, we're adults and have jobs. We don't have time to do the fun stuff we did when we were younger. The younger generations have the reigns now and they're doing a shit job.

I'll make up for it. I'll never play a competitive game seriously as long as I live.

Instead I'll grief / troll and fuck around and be an absolute loon.

>Dude, we're adults and have jobs
Right, so they're not lost. You're just making excuses. I've been running HL1 mod servers since 2017 and there's always a group of chucklefucks like you who make excuses as to why you can't join.

You're just trying to grasp on what very little of the past is left. Kids don't want to play our mods anymore ("Why can't i buy skins, where are the dance emotes?")

Modding is barely alive now and seeing how zoomers are being fed this youtube e-celeb/ low brow indie game + Free 2 start games and walking simulators, modding will not recover. That and developers aren't building new modding tools for their games so you can't create new shit to a newer audience (Hurry the fuck up Valve, Source 2 is your salvation!).

Have you ever thought about that - maybe you are the autistic loser? Normal people don't spend their time on Yea Forums attention whoring and wasting their time griefing minecraft servers.

>minecraft
Soiling the memory of all games everywhere.

t. got griefed

t. got raped as a child

This is what's plaguing modern games. The rise of microtransactions have killed mod potential for a lot of games and client-hosted servers

>TF2 gets worse with every update
wrong, if you have nohats mod installed and play on a good community server like i do the game has pretty much only gotten better since 2007
>and it's still slowly dying
that goes for all multiplayer games
it's not the same thing as "dead", which tf2 is a long fucking way away from being

>When normalfags didnt play vidya and no1 cared about politics...
You know exactly the words to hurt me the most don't you

Attached: Seto_no.jpg (1280x720, 73K)

You're seeing the forest for the trees. If this had been a thread reminiscing about olden days of Source modding, I wouldn't have bothered. But complaining that things are dead or dying is only because YOU and the rest of the other guys left. YOU let it die. It takes nothing for me to host some The Specialists right now. Some HLDM, some Science and Industry, Jaykin Bacon, any of those classic HL1 mods. It takes interest to care enough to participate, which you and everyone else who gave up don't have. Frostbite not giving mod tools was a huge blow, and many other companies have followed suit. That doesn't stop Project Reality from staying alive. That doesn't stop BF2hub from staying alive. That doesn't stop Halo CE from staying alive. You guys stopped caring. It's nobody's fault but yours. That is the cold truth.

Attached: it's treason, then.gif (320x256, 3.25M)

Any multiplayer-focused game that does not let you host dedicated servers is a scam. This is a fact.

P2P with 4 or less players that has a decent manner of handing off the hoster if they quit(NOT vermintide) is fine.

>"Stop caring"
Dude we are adults that have jobs and families. We don't have time to go around moderating old ass mods+tech for old games on defunct engines. We're not getting paid for it and shouldn't be bothered with it.

>hosting video game servers nobody plays in over dealing with normal life stuff.

Modding is dying and the newer generation is doing fuck all to reboot it. Plus it's my not problem that companies don't want mods anymore.

I had fun in the golden age of game mods, it's just sad the younger gens missed out.

You're talking to me like modders have a responsibility to keep playing mods that have been abandoned.

not him but
>reddit spacing that hard

The fuck is reddit spacing?

That elite in your webm always fucking scared me

yikes

>yikes
Just by reading that i don't even need an explanation, soiboy.

yeah okay 2018 post-mooter

Jesus dude come on don't cop out.
>CS:S, TF2, and GMOD are dead...
>But they are alive + you can just make a server with other guys who feel as you do
>We're adults, we have responsibilities (like posting on Yea Forums)
>So they died because you won't make time? Why not just make some time?
>We're adults, don't have time.
Again, this isn't reminiscence. People make time for the things they care about. If you're not making time, then you don't care. Anything else is an excuse. Two years on I've been making servers, I've seen threads like this one for longer than that. When push comes to shove, you guys don't come by. Admit it to yourself instead of pinning some blame on the new generation, ESPECIALLY when Project Reality, BF2, Halo CE, and other games/mods still have regular communities. Hell, look at DOOM. At any time between 25 and 60 people are playing on Zandronum. Neotokyo's another Sourcemod. They keep their community going good by having games every thursday, friday, and sundays. When you put in the effort, you can say they're dying. Right now you're just letting it happen. I'm not even trying to be hostile man, but your whole attitude towards the modding situation makes it easy.
He's a fucker for sure.

I think

It's when

you space between sentences

like this.

But I could be wrong. It's some stupid meme I don't get.

How is that keeping a mod alive, that's forced life support and isn't going to be the intended experience a modder was aiming for during the haydays of the late 2000's. It's just damned sad.

GMod is still alive and well thoi its just that it isn't youtuber bait anymore.

CSGO killed it.
I still have no idea why Yea Forums love so much steam and Gabe.

You right
