I still can't believe that Nintendo would take one of their most iconic characters and shrink them down into a simplified stubby SD low-detail caricature with beady flat black eyes to conform to an arts and crafts theme.
2D ZELDA WAS A LIMITATION FUCK ANYONE WHO LIKES THAT BABY SHIT
Matthew Thompson
Paper Mario is not a remake that could have look better than plastic toys. Is it's own IP. It also doesn't look like shit until the 3DS. Fuck you, OP.
Camden Hernandez
No, I was actually talking about Paper Mario. Like I said, the emphasis on arts and crafts didn't kick in until the 3DS game.
Evan Murphy
Terada drew for strategy guides, he had zero influence or input on the actual game. Link's Awakening was always bright, colourful, and cartoony in all of its official art. Have you seen Terada's Secret of Mana player's guide artwork? He draws the main character like he's Conan the Barbarian.
I fail to see how this Zelda is supposed to have an arts and craft theme. Literally nothing implies that. It's not a bad artstyle, just wrong for Zelda.
Charles Nguyen
It's a constant of every new Zelda game since Wind Waker that the artstyle will always be shat on. LAr is no exception.
Gavin Robinson
Sure. But don't make the game look like an indie Unity game.
Ayden Watson
Most people loved that and it was critically acclaimed though. Series doesn’t always need to be a dark, but variety in tone is nice.
Caleb Scott
Don't lump Paper Mario in with that crap. The 64 game was known as Mario Story until those pricks Tanabe and Miyamoto intervened.
Adrian Johnson
I mean, really, what's wrong with this exactly? Zelda has always had a wide array of different tones and art styles, and something like this toyetic style probably suits Link's Awakening way more than something like this: I mean, hypothetically, let's say that they DID release a remake of Link's Awakening that looks exactly like that art. Wouldn't it be absurdly jarring to have that Link in that world take a fucking Chain Chomp on a walk or stomping on Goombas? It's like you guys want this gritty, realistic version of Link's Awakening, but failed to take into account that there's a hippo posing for a nude photo and a fucking telephone in the middle of town. Sure, on one hand, I can actually see the appeal of such a bizarre, surreal juxtaposition of a realistic gritty art style and weird, stupid cartoony elements, and one could even argue that this fits the concept of a dream-world that Link's in, but somehow I seriously doubt that's what the devs were going for. And I think there's a reason that this artist deliberately left out all the sheer amount of goofy, cartoony elements in his illustrations.
Luke Jenkins
Isn't a variety of tone exactly what we've been getting since Wind Waker? This toyetic art style is nothing like any of the Zelda games that came before it.
Aiden White
Shit, I love 3D Dot Game Heroes
Hudson Evans
OP, your fake-out was too strong! People are now focusing on Zelda instead of Paper Mario.
Asher Howard
I don't think the problem is that its a new art-style, I think that problem is that it is just too phone-gamey at this point.
Josiah Watson
That's a retarded argument. So now certain art styles and aesthetics are off-limits in console games because of some arbitrary standard of whether something looks like a "phone game", whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean?
Jacob Wilson
Fuck you I like it
Thomas Rogers
Im completely not interested in animal crossing art style remake of links awakening.
A botw style remake of any top down zelda wouldve been amazing.
Logan Barnes
Hes basically a goddamn funko pop
Jayden Baker
>it is just too phone-gamey at this point. Ok. I'll bite. The fuck do you mean by this? Are you saying all games with a simple style is automatically a phone game? Because that's what it sounds like.
