What the fuck happened to classic deathmatch?

What the fuck happened to classic deathmatch?

I'm not even talking about *sips* Quake style movement-based/arsenal-based shooters either. What happened to just dropping in, shootin some niggas, and dropping out like it wasn't shit?

Why's everything so team/class/objective/competitive focused now? I just want to shoot, run around neat maps, respawn, and fuck off once I'm done.

You can still do that in any game you play. There wasn't anything stopping you from treating Team Fortress 2's 2fort CTF as TDM, in fact that's how the majority of people played it.

because the under 25 crowd has never played one of those games. I agree though, I miss it.

>comparing tf2 to classic deathmatch
t. clueless zoomer

It is almost people got tired of the same old thing and wanted to do something else

Are you just being obtuse?

>Old people
>Back in my day
Fuck off grandpa

>Why do people like team-oriented games that they can play with their friends or treat as single-player deathmatches over my deathmatch-only games??
idk

Thanks for making a super shitty thread OP

I miss the specialist. That game was so bad ass.

they're nothing alike zoomer

DEATHMATCH CLASSIC

Moether fuck yes. It was like HL1 but a little more twitchy and old school.

I dearly miss it brother. You are not the only one. There are probably a DOZEN of us in the world.

Oh, you ARE being obtuse. user, I'm 27 years old.

>these games NEVER had team modes
Zoomers out in full force.

2020 is /our year/

>a game mode where you run around collecting weapons, ammo and power ups shooting anyone in your way is the same as a game mode where you can't kill half the players because of teams, have clear objectives to complete, can radically have different experiences based on the skill of your teammates, clear cut classes with fixed weapon'/ability types, and can get kicked easily for fucking over your team by just killing instead of being a team player
Shoo shoo zoomer stop talking about games you've never played.

>I'm not even talking about *sips* Quake style movement-based/arsenal-based shooters either. What happened to just dropping in, shootin some niggas, and dropping out like it wasn't shit?
>What happened to just dropping in, shootin some niggas, and dropping out
If you load up almost any game you can be "dropping in, shootin some niggas and dropping out". If you want an actual Arena shooter then you should have asked for that

Not even the person you're trying to bait btw

Alien invasion is going to start in 2036, government is secretly pushing co op shooters to train people about co-op tactics and shit, expect friendly fire and gorilla warfare rewarding to become common things on all videogames around 2026.

nice samefag. I'm not OP, I'm just point out the stupidity of comparing deathmatch to any mode in tf2.

I dont doubt this

>all the servers are matchmaking
>all the skins have to be bought
>all maps and gamemodes are dev-made only
>every match demands 30-90 minutes of your time or bannu
The worst part is that you know no effort to bring old shit back is never going to work. Most people don't have the two brain neurons they need to find the port forward settings on their router, and the new UT died because people were disgusted by the fact that they would have to make maps for it themselves. Everything is going to become this curated shit because the only people that would like anything else are the 40 year old original fans and their kids.

Wow it's almost like I saw this thread already

Didn't we have this exact same OP, text pic and all, the other day?

>nice samefag.
>not using Yea Forums x

He's right, TF2 is not an arena shooter no matter how much you want to vaguely draw lines to each other.

New UT was an admirable attempt. I think those games were mainstream back then out of a lack of options. Today even people who claim they want UT won't actually opt for UT over something easier

CSGO deathmatch is pretty fun, gun game style

What is it about those three YT vids? Redpill me on this meme.

Nice of Gaben to invite us over for some deathmatch, eh Luigi?

Attached: pxpu7kljbcp01.png (933x608, 1.14M)

you can literally fucking do this in CSGO daethmatch and queue time is instant
>b-but the zoomers!
just fucking mute everyone if this is a problem

New UT was genuinely bad. It was completely mediocre and lacked everything that made ut99/2004/etc. good.

I've not been playing that many games recently but I did get somewhat hooked on a browser game called shellshock.io. It's pretty much what you're talking about - drop in, shoot some fuckers and leave. Somehow I've had more dumb fun with it than most games the past few years

What the fuck happened to unique OPs?

boards.fireden.net/v/search/image/dpsAsi7xIzIp_cpzDXzRXw/.
You've got some real bad autism, boy.

zoomer

it was bad because it was pre-alpha
all the gameplay elements were there, they only had to add the soul but they shitcanned the entire game in favour of fornite so you're only left with couple of default characters and literally untextured maps

It was "pre-alpha" for years. You can make all the excuses you want, but it was literally just a bad video game dude.

This

The core gameplay and balance was mostly what it needed to be, but it's obvious that they didn't think the maps through at all. Almost none of them take advantage of the new movement system, powerups and weapons were placed haphazardly, and most are too spread thin in a way that doesn't elicit the same flow as the older ones. It's no surprise that older fans weren't going to move away from their favorite titles with such dubious maps on the table, but it was a prime opportunity for new blood to step up and get to work, and they chose to skip over it in the launcher for Fortnite instead.

Because most people are shit and modern multiplayer is about hiding how shit a player is
>team based games so the average shitter can get carried
>no skill "ultimate" skills that are just a screen clear so bad people can feel cool sometimes
>cosmetics purchases fool them into thinking theyre getting better with thier hcaracter

You can't get carried in a solo battle royale by definition.

And that's why the most popular battle royales either feature squads or force you into them, like how Fortnite throws you into a squad of randos or how Apex Legends is entirely focused around trios.

You can hide in some corner and do absolutely nothing until someone puts you out of your misery, and still feel good about yourself because you 'survived' longer than the next idiot, there can be only one true winner after all. You're only supporting that user's point.

do you have a single fact to back that up?

>lose money constantly
>keep playing
>die in fortnite constantly
>keep playing
Which is why they rely on randomization and are essentially slot machines for kids.

baste thread

it was prealpha for years exactly because of fortnite and paragon. fortnite becoming sensation among zoomers just sealed the deal
