I finished Golden Sun recently and it's fucking garbage. The characters are bland and one dimensional. The graphics aged like milk. The story is the most uninspired JRPG story out there. The combat is extremely fucking easy and exploitable. Everything about the game screams generic and mediocre.
Golden Sun is absolute dog shit compared to better JRPGs out there like Shin Megami Tensei, Dragon Quest, or even the Xeno series. I have no doubt in my mind that people only praise Golden Shit because it's babby's first JRPG.

yikes. shame about your thread

I still love it though. Not as much as DQ5 or Chrono Trigger but definitely top 3.

>no argument

It has soul though

i think the biggest sin is that you can't just mash A to get past the incessant random battles against weak enemies. But yes, everything else you'd said is unfortunately true. It has that camelot charm, but you're better off playing power tour instead

>i think the biggest sin is that you can't just mash A to get past the incessant random battles against weak enemies.

Yes you can, that+Summon rush was how i beat the game when i was a dumb kid, Unleashes were pretty fucking good, Just had to Wish/Aura up after a fight, but since Psynergy restored as you walked and that was the ONLY thing you used it for it worked just fine. I enjoyed the games, but it really IS babbys first JRPG, but the GBA was pretty sparse with stuff when it released, and in that void it was fucking godly, you also have to remember that graphically people were comparing it primarily to GBC games, in other work and the GRAFIX jump when looking at it that way was immense.

Basically, the popularity is Lightning in a bottle, and Dark Dawn showed they couldn't replicate it.

>JRPGs are shit
And water is wet

I love that you can read everyone's minds. It gives me an incentive to visit all the early villages. Force is my favorite spell.

>incessant random battles
At least they battles are quick. You can avoid fights altogether by using Sacred Feather or the Avoid djinn.

The worst thing about it are all the "puzzles" in each dungeon that 9 times out of 10 just amount to "Use the last thing you obtained"
Even the most casual Zelda games require more brainpower than Golden Sun's puzzles

I recall the sequel being better, but that may be nostalgia talking

Mother 3. Nice try, resetera.

I played it when it was new and thought it was a soulless diamond dozen budget jrpg, never touched it again.
I prefer FFVI or Shining Force 2 for that 2D kick

There's some mods that make the game harder and rebalance the classes and other stuff. Never tried them yet myself but I've heard good things about them.

You probably didn’t collect all the Djinn or find all the secret shit.

Mother 3 isn't perfect, but at least it had a unique identity and tried to be different than every other run of the mill JRPG.

Secrets and easter eggs don't change any of he problems I mentioned in the OP.

>I played game
>I hated game
>everyone else should hate game too!

Go back to RetardEra.

>The graphics aged like milk
What the fuck

Imagine sperging out about another site just because you can't refute any of the arguments made.

Why would you sincerely reply to a teenager raised by an imageboard who actually turned random anonymous people insulting each other as one of his main personality traits?

games don't age dummy

Sheba/Felix is the only ship that makes sense in this series.

Graphics do, and Golden Sun's graphics are SHIT.

I liked GS more than GS2

k
I really liked the Lost Age. Never played the original, got the GBA second hand.

So do Jenna/Isaac (canon) and Garett/Mia

The ONLY redeeming factors are the puzzles and graphics, everything else is shit. Really wish more JRPGs had Zelda-like dungeons instead of basic mazes.

I mostly agree with you. I liked Golden Sun because back then I was a kid who was amazed by everything. When I grew up and played Dark Dawn I was fucking disgusted by the game, which made me revisit old titles and see their flaws. Golden Sun is a series that I don't think will be revived or given a chance again, part of it is because Dark Dawn was extremely terrible and pushed away a lot of old fans like me.

Why, because the developers decide to mate them so their children can go adventuring in the sequel? Felix takes a personal interest in protecting Sheba from Saturos/Menardi who only want to use her to get into Jupiter lighthouse. He even jumps off the lighthouse to catch her.

There is nothing so dynamic in the ships you mentioned.

Earthbound

The Golden Sun series has hands down the most complex environmental interaction of any JRPG though. The fact that you're judging it on shit like story and don't bring that up instead is hilarious.

I agree op its a mediocre game, but I would say its still better than 90% of final fantasy / dragon quest games. So for babies first jrpg you could do worse.
