Decided to try XC2 because I really enjoy Shulk in Smash and also have been trying to pick up new series.

God am I glad I did. The game made me feel nostalgic despite having not touched any of the series before, the music is great, and I really enjoy the combat after you've unlocked Driver combos and the sort.

Fanservice is just icing on the cake, really. I hope more games like it get released. Haven't stopped listening to the Tantal theme since I beat the game a couple weeks ago.

XC2 did have a lot of fanservice, but I feel the game would've stood fine on its own regardless. It was a simple story told fairly well (at least the later half) and the gameplay was pretty good for a JRPG.

Story was fine. Fanservice is great. Only problem with the game was the non interactive combat outside of boss battles. I don't know why they thought locking all options behind several meters that take forever to build (and reset after each fight) was a good idea.

Honestly the dungeons in Xenogears were never anything special. You really don't miss out on much by not getting to play them. Disc 2 is more like reading through a let's play of a theoretical Disc 2 and then playing the key battles, but the final dungeon is intact and you gain access to the world map again (and some side stuff) after the slideshow's over.

XC2 is a compromise, with fanservice shoved up front so the otaku wouldn't return it immediately, and the gameplay and later story part for xeno audience. Well when working on a big product, most companies try to make things understandable for most people, yeah. But even then, there are translators who try to, y'know, translate. It's a thing where you feel like you're being a lazy bastard/subpar translator for leaving in hard to translate words because "Who wants to deal with translating this? Only weeaboos read/play this, they'll know what it is." I work in fan and official translations and any time I get a chance I will drive myself crazy trying to actually translate things. I mean, I won't water down cultural stuff, there are series that are very Japanese and it's impossible to not transliterate stuff, but I don't do half a job as a rule.

They all have their moments (Fiora & Shulk fighting Dickson is some dumb garbage when they're flying around and shouting platitudes about friendship), but they're not non-stop cavalcades of dog shit where characters wake up face-first in another's cleavage, and characters make dick jokes and get so embarassed they slap someone over it. Compared to 2, X's Tatsu is food jokes are a relief because they're only at the start of chapters.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2's "fan-service" was no where near as noticeable as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's where the camera would obnoxiously pan to Quiet's chest area every two minutes during cutscenes that she was involved in. I usually do a good deal of research on anything I buy, but XC2 is the first game in years I didn't do much research on because I remember liking the first and people I knew told me that it was the first game but better, and I stupidly just bought it. First time I had buyer's remorse in years. Buyer's remorse is so bad I'm re-attempting to play it again, but it's hard, I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it.

I like the game, but it not perfect. Here some my opinion about game
