It's a walking simulator with stealth segments, parts where you possess a demon to kill shit (but I would be reluctant to call them fights, you just go up and press a button to kill them) a skipable boss fight in the middle and a final boss which sets up a fight where you posess a giant to fight a giant but that just happens in a cutscene and you instead resurrect some big bird things to fight it. The worst part is to resurrect them you shoot these big glowing things but it's really unintuitive because lots of other things in the game have that same glow with no meaning.

They are making a sequel that is an outright action game though.

9/11 screwed the ending cutscenes over pretty hard. We missed out on Arsenal wrecking Manhattan and Solidus' speech in front of a waving flag.
Also, the Patriots were right all along. They would have filtered out all these faggots on social media.

to be fair, MGS2 felt like a mediocre sequel to MGS1 and when all the crazy shit started to happen in Arsenal Gear, I just wanted the game to be over since all the Arsenal Gear shit felt like it should of belonged in another game due to the sudden and jarring shift in tone/location/etc....

FFX's ending was fine. Unless they count the Calm video that led to X-2, then I agree.

What? It's about how society and the individual make sense of the world in the digital age. It's broad existentialism. It has nothing to do with patriotism. It barely even has anything to do with politics.

MGS2 needed better editing and there are aspects of the story I'm not fond of, but the ending -- heavy-handed though it is -- is what crystalizes the game's story into something worthwhile. Without it it's too unwieldy to get much out of.

Sure, but it's not really the core of the game's story. Snake's conversation with Raiden is a distillation of the game's ideas, and it's not "WOOOOO BOY I LOVE THE CONSTITUTION!"

Idk, MGS2 is one of the few games that has one of the most satisfying endings in my "gaming" life, and spoiled me forever.
After MGS2, I expected every game to have a long and in depth ending that took it's time instead of rushing you to the credits, I rarely found something like it.

I'm not some pseudointellectual that thinks MGS2 is this master work that defines the medium of video games or any other trite shit like that but it is clearly a game that wants its player to think about deeper meanings. MGS2 requires you to be able to rub two brain cells together which I get is a tall order for a buzzfeed writer but still.

Mostly it was a lot of poetic faux-patriotism over the idea of not wanting to be forgotten and left erased as simply "some bastard clone, a mere pawn and scapegoat for the Patriots" that would never matter again. The game tries to paint him in a sympathetic light on the surface, but he still murdered Olga without mercy, made Jack a broken shell of a man, and threatened the United States with a military coup out of spite for being tossed aside by the Patriots more than anything else. I actually like that reading between the lines and catching his bullshit, you can tell that he's not actually meant to be all that sympathetic and is still a crazy fucker doing everything for himself.

Everyone has to sort out for themselves what to believe and what to leave in their wake in a world that can be manipulative or ambiguous. That's life, Patriots or not.

I still would call it a masterpiece of the medium, not memeing at all. It doesn't define video games that's just silly, no game does, and the medium is so large it's made for different experiences. 2 is just so unique and right in so many ways for our time, I think it will grow exponentially in cult status in the future.
