Holy shit 4 is terrible. Even DmC was more responsive than this, and had enemies that were actually fun to fight. Everything about 4 sucks. Style switching is the opposite of fun. Nero has no fucking moves. They somehow made the camera even worse because you can't tell which way you're facing half the time. Lucifer/Pandora/Yamato are completely worthless on Dante, and are actually debuffs because you can switch to them by mistake.

Nero is way easier to learn properly, the rythm game is a huge damage boost and range boost so you wanna keep it up as much as possible, every swing can charge your bar, with max-act a perfect frame sync is 3 bars instantly
nero's gun is also a pretty important thing, if you're playing manual (and you should) then switch the gun button to either LT/RT L2/R2 so you can always charge it. Takes a while to get used to it, but it pays off greatly. A lot of enemy states can be interrupted with charge lvl 2, and charge 3 is for extra dmg/combo potential. If you're playing in Turbo mode (and you should) it doesn't really take long to charge so you can play pretty aggressive

and the enemies i like them, not sure what's your problem
if anything sometimes it gets painful in LDK mode due to having too many attacks everywhere. Every enemy has a gimmick to deal with them, Nero has his buster for grab moves and Dante all his high level bullshit

I can charge the gun while swinging, but I don't know what to be shooting. Sometimes I can shoot it midcombo and sometimes it just disappears.

Why should I play in turbo mode?

I haven't gotten to LDK yet, still on SoS. Fighting Agnus with Dante right now and it's such an irritating fight, which is weird because the cutscene leadup to it is fantastic. He actually managed to kill me with this grab(?) move that I didn't see coming at all. That's a recurring theme, the cues for attacks in this game are really subtle, if there are even cues at all.

I can appreciate that there's a lot of depth here. But DmC also had a lot of depth, it just doesn't matter because you spam the same few moves to defeat everything instantly. And that's how I feel. Nothing seems fun.

So according to Itsuno interviews and today's trailer from capcom, the timeline is DMC 3-1-2-4-5.

turbo add an extra 20%~ speed to the game, if you got the reaction times to handle it then it's the way to go. The most noticeable change is that you can do the rythm minigame faster and gun charge takes less time

most cues in dmc are sounds and bosses rising their arms up
if agnus grabs you pop your DT to get released, and that's for a lot of bosses

never felt this "deep" in DmC, and certainly not as deep as dmc4 goes
your first run might feel dry because you still gotta unlock moves and learn enemy counters, but once it clicks you're in

If you try to shoot while Nero is in his sword swing animation, you will lose the charge. Pace your shots between combos.

Man how do people play on default controls? Having lock-on on LB/L1 just feel so strange, much more comfortable on LT/L2. Shoot on RT/R2 is nice as well.

Why would I want to make the game faster? It's already way too awkward to hit the buttons I need.

I've already unlocked every move in the game and it's still not 'clicking'.

I already popped my DT to escape from Agnus and he did that move again and killed me when I had no DT. Then I fought him again and he did his charge up to heal move and for some reason I couldn't knock him out of it. And then I died again because the controls put me to royalguard when I wanted swordmaster. I just used a gold orb and killed him because I don't care about rankings or getting good anymore. I'm just going to finish SoS and then probably never touch the game again. I just beat Saviour which was really boring as usual so it's not far to go now.

I can see why people would like this game, but I don't find it fun at all. The controls are really imprecise, enemies feel like a chore, bosses feel like a bigger chore, and if getting good means learning the timing for exceeds and royalguards then I'm just not sure getting good is worth it.

No damage gives a higher bonus but isn't necessary for an S rank. You can parry some of Goliath's attacks like his charge and rubble throw by hitting them with your devil breaker at the right time. Its easier to dodge them if you want to play safe but parrying gives more style points

Learn your jump timings. Try to get around behind him when you jump over him. When he uses cages, you can either roll, or just run around him. "Crush you" you should just be moving away from him, he does it at certain health values, so it's easy to predict. Feathers are hard to defend against, but you'll want to run towards him if you know he's doing it. If you have RG level 3, you can just do the lock on and back move and you'll absorb them all.

It's not just the dpad, it seems that half the time special moves don't work because the directions need to be way more precise than they were in 3, which is a problem when it's hard to see where Dante's facing. Also movement is really weird, sometimes it feels like you drift in the air and sometimes you don't. Sometimes you have a huge hitbox with aerial rave and fireworks, sometimes they don't hit enemies when it looks like they should, even when I lock on.

That video looks cool but it doesn't make any sense to me. I don't know how he's cancelling out of Nero's grab, for example, or how he can get propshredder to consistently juggle enemies that normally resist juggling, or what that move is that keeps enemies suspended in midair. I understand jump cancelling and how that can be used to string attacks together or reset your air dodge. But this is clearly more than that.

A couple tips:

1. The fire bird can't hurt you when you're on the ground, it can only pop you up into the air. It's the second hit that hurts you, so don't freak out right away.
2. If you stay on the ground in the lower area near the door (the big area,) Griffon will eventually land there, letting you use physical attacks. (lay into him with DT Ifrit for maximum damage.)

DMC1 is my favorite game in the series, but even I admit that Griffon 2 sucks cock. Just get it over with, get past the swimming next mission, and you'll be able to have fun again.

Compared to 4? nah man, at best I'd say they're on par with each other. What good enemies does DmC have outside of drekavac and dreamrunner (which are admittedly great, but don't excuse the rest)? 4 has some bad enemies but at least they look diverse enough and most have something unique to them; roughly 70% of DmC's enemies are some variation of "demonic mannequin with black fluid holding weapon". The other 30% are 2 enemy types with a blue and red variation, the drekavac/dreamrunner, and the witch.

They're very niche weapons but I wouldn't say completely worthless. For example, I've found that the easiest (and most entertaining) way for me to deal with Berial is with lucifer + trickster (and a bit of swordmaster when I'm far away enough). Pandora is a lifesaver in the palace if you build its gauge up in anticipation of a level with some retarded enemy lineup. Yamato pairs well with rebellion, and it's mostly for crowd control when you get the hang of the dimension slashes.

They have each their own mechanical problems (lucifer has a single good move and the rest is meh, pandora fills the gauge too slowly and consumes it too fast, yamato's BW and FW have very weird distance brackets), but it's not like E&I/coyote/rebellion/gilgamesh don't have their own. A part of the fun is finding where each weapon shines.

That makes me wonder though, are Angelos a type of demon? Or did they come into existence after Nelo Angelo? Because if that previous statement is true, what the hell is Cavaliere being angry at Sparda for.

I don't know who told you that. The last specific mention of V being playable is in Mission 13, where you can select any of the three characters. That's not to say he WON'T have any missions after that, but there's nothing to indicate that he will.

Capcom doesn't kill characters, especially ones with interesting gameplay styles that can expand more in the future. Even if it makes sense within the story for them to die - like how Vergil has died TWICE now (three times if you count Gilver) - they will always return if they're a fan favorite or their gameplay is interesting. V isn't dying. He is too unique. He's the antithesis of DMC combat. They wouldn't create this extremely unique character and throw him away in the same game.

We have no fucking clue what is going on. Mission 17 MIGHT be Vergil getting revived, we don't know. But even if he does, 18 might just be chasing after him, while 19 is the boss rush and 20 is the fight against him. Nothing says that we fight someone else after Vergil. The OST doesn't even indicate it. The final songs are inherited will, silver bullet (lyric from Devil Trigger) and then the main theme. There isn't any room for Mundus or anything. Vergil is likley the final fight.

Stories aren't interesting without having characters intimately connected with the plot. That's why DMC2 is so boring. Dante's just doing a job. And without Nero, 4 wouldn't have had any weight at all either. They'd have to go to a whole new generation or just do something totally different and make it a spiritual successor.

I think the most relevat piece of information regarding Vergil is that unlike Dante he didn't went under cover after Eva died and had demons hunting him. It's kinda hard to judge him as a villain when he really hasn't had a normal life at all and has always been in the sphere of the underworld. He never set up to exploit anyone, wasn't corrupt or greedy. He's an extremist but that doesn't make him evil.
