What boss in the Soulsborne series gave you the most trouble and resulted in the most euphoric feeling upon beating them?

For me it was pic related, I didn't understand how upgrading weapons worked so I had to beat him with some dog shit flame sword I picked up at some point. This in conjunction with the massive framedrops and it being my first game of the series made the fight it super difficult, and that much more rewarding when I did finally beat him.

None of them. They're either all easy, or I just get angry after beating them.

Fume Knight was an absolute monster, took me more tries than any other three bosses combined. DS2 is for true soulschads.

It's an understatement to say that Fume Knight and me have history. I started playing Dark Souls 2 about 2 years ago and had relatively little trouble throughout the game until this guy. I had used a handful of Human Effigy up to this point; needless to say I burned through all of them facing him (80 I think) because I refused to grind my way to victory. I failed to make much progress with any strategy, and sleeping on it only seemed to help me get close enough to die just before I was able to land the final blow. After a few days, I did something I had never done with any other game I've played in my entire life: I blamed the game and turn it off. I tried to forget about Fume Knight for 2 years. During those 2 years I managed to play through all of Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne, thinking to myself the entire time that it was not worth going back to 2 because of its glaring flaws. It's a broken game with broken DLC by a broken development team. But the loss I suffered was so great that I could not let it go. I restarted 2 a few weeks ago to see why I could not forget about it and Fume Knight. Cut to last night, and I managed to kill him after 3 bouts. I could say so much more about what I went through and how it felt to finally beat this guy, but I'll stop here and say one thing. I'm not here to say that Fume Knight is HARD. He's certainly not as difficult as ol' Nameless in 3 or Orphan of Kos in BB. He's nowhere close to any of the epic/poetic battles the series is known for, and barely a footnote in a fanfiction as far as the overall lore is concerned. However, there is no doubt in my mind that after playing all the soulsborne games that he is the most DEMORALIZING boss I have ever faced in a video game. If you aren't lucky, obsessive with your build, or grind enough to brush him off your shoulder, you will remember this fight for what it is. This boss is designed for overanalysis, overconfidence, and overachievement on a personal level.

Fume Knight and the Pontiff, but pontiff was only because I was using an ultra greatsword.

DS2 and BB dlc's are the only things left I haven't touched in the souls series. I can't really stand DS2 so I might just leave it incomplete.

Maneaters I think.

DS2 was my first and I had 40 attempts on Fume Knight before I beat him. Had trouble with Elaina too because she kept summoning fucking Velstadt and this was all before I knew about ADP.

Only bosses I haven’t tried are the two cats from Ivory King DLC and Midir in TRC.

Even Darklurker I got after a few tries.

Fume Knight on normal playthrough, Artorias on SL1 run.

Also some chalice bosses I haven’t done but fuck me was chalice Rom ever hard.

That boss should not be fought in an enclosed room.

Other bosses, if you try to back off and chug an estus like a fag, will let you. They'll make a wind up attack to give you breathing space, or charge up a slow ranged attack. Fume Knight stays on you like stink on shit. He will not let you leave his death radius to heal like a bitch.

Ludwig. Possibly because my first time was on NG+ after not playing the game for 2 years

Bloodstarved beast or whatever its name was.

Orphan of Kos. The only boss is the entire series that gave me such a hard time that I had to stop, make a new character, beat the base game, and then go back to beat Orphan. Gael never gave me trouble, Maneaters were fine, Fume Knight and Allone were easy, but Orphan made me lose faith in my ability to git gud. I'd get him down to 1/4th a health bar every time, then just die, every single time.

I wanted to say I felt good after beating him, but I really didn't. I never want to fight Orphan again.

This but with Orphan

Even if you get Estus off he gets pissed and starts man handling you with his FUGS

Friede and Gael, because it was on NG+ with a wonky sl99 greatsword pyro

DLC's have highlights that make them worth it in both cases. Just summon for the fight where they just copy and paste Velstatd and whats her name because that fight is garbage.

Darklurker. I never had any trouble with Fume or Alonne, but Darlurker kicked my ass all the way to the moon a thousand times. Now I can handle him just fine
The only boss in the series (excluding Bloodborne which I haven't played) who I'm still not confident i can reliably beat 1st try is Friede because I'm 2slow.
I played Demon's Souls last, so all the bosses felt really easy. Flamelurker isn't so bad if you have some hp and a decent weapon, Maneaters are honestly fine if you can finish the first one, and if you have a decently upgraded weapon that's definitely feasible, and Allant is just a matter of having enough HP to tank a hit or two if you fuck up.

To this day I have never beaten Dark Souls III's Nameless King.

Look at me and laugh.

Casual filter in effect

Just, like, hit him and his chicken until they both die.

I don't doubt it, and I might go back eventually but its low on the priority list.

Definitely Orphan of Kos. Tried him first on NG+ and he took me somewhere around sixty or so tries. Had to learn his moveset backwards and forwards to win. Multiple times I got him within one strike for the kill and he did some bullshit to kill me. Sometimes shit would happen to drain me from a full health bar in one go after minutes of fighting him.
After he was dead the cutscene where your character walks to the ocean and says his quick farewell played and the feeling I had was the closest thing to transcendence I've ever felt while playing a videogame.

Allant isn't really that hard, but the runback is definitely the worst in the series.

i had a similar experience after installing the barefoot emerald herald mod

Yeah I still had that annoying as fuck dragon still up, was brutal

Kek

If this isn't a pasta, did you bother to destroy all four of the ashen statues? Did you use blunt damage? Raime's husk requires some practicality.

It's fine once the dragon is beat, and if you get the pattern down might be faster since it'll toast the officials. However, if you try to run around all the foes in the tower having the dragon up might be inconvenient.
