The changes they've made to the online have completely resurrected the online community and you can actually host and play games now.
I cancelled my pre-order once I realized I already had my copy back from 00's registered to my account.. And I kept it cancelled when I realized -given the direction of the company- that it would be incredibly unlikely of Blizzard to be able to 'remake' Warcraft 3.

I fully expect it to be shit.

Yeah he left a while ago but he wrote her in pretty hard by that point, enough to get legions of drooling fanboys.
