Yuzu is definitely a different story with the Negative Edge stuff, but Eltnum you just hold the button and a different gunshot comes out. I don't use the midscreen one enough personally.

No, the way the ranking system works is you have to beat people of the same rank to promote. It's not tied to Ranked matches or private rooms. But the playerbase is really small so good luck promoting on anything more than a whim.

How often do you guys start up a lobby?

The usual is Sunday through Thursday 9:30PM/12:30AM and that runs for around 3-4 hours each night. Just thought I'd try to start doing some over the weekend potentially and see if there are any people interested who don't usually have time on the weeknights to play.

Well Guilty Gear has stuff like variable character weight, Guts, bursts, you can block attacks in the air, everyone has two airdashes, there's a lot of very specific character tools, and so forth. This game doesn't have that much, but it doesn't have as much jockeying for position and close range poking as Street Fighter either, or the general combo length. It definitely leans towards GG or other anime games, but it's not as hyper aggressive as like Blazblue or anything.

How do I play Orie?

I'm really weak to people pressing buttons against me, for what it's worth. It's not really a good habit until you get to understand what your opponent typically does, but if you press 5/2A against me a lot I'll run into it.

Think about it for a second. A top tier character got nerfed and the tierwhores abandoned their character. You think they'd stick with him because they like him? No, he was just easy wins, more than half the people that play this game have no idea what they're really on about so it's not surprising in the slightest. He's still a menace but everyone else just got stronger while he didn't "grow" as much yet he's still a viable character, he just isn't as an easy pick as he was before. Granted, the nerf from UNIEL to arcade UNIST was drastic but the console changes brought him back up to speed. The people who stuck with him like Jasepi and Hairou still kicks ass with him.

Do I need to play the other one to understand the story on this? I want to know the characters before start learning the game.

He wasn't nerfed super badly, mostly his command grab range that made him ridiculous. But everyone else was buffed even more, and he has to work uphill against two of the new characters who are top tier so he became low-mid tier.

I mean it's functional in getting people off of you so just be smart about it with any DP. Try using it after a Chain Shift to be extra safe. Remember, if you're using the EX version, mash some buttons to add some extra damage

The biggest. Your average casual is attracted to her design since it's the most outwardly fanservice oriented character in the entire cast. She's part of a very popular archetype of samurai girl, but has one of the highest execution barriers and skill ceilings in the game. Plenty of people have given up playing the game once they realized the girls they wanted to play were too hard.

Forgot to mention it was great practicing against an Orie player since I usually only have atic to play against and he dominates me on nearly every turn so this was some good matchup practice.

Here's my take from the characters I've played extensively.

Linne: A sword character with projectiles and great mixup game if you learn the different routes you can take with her. Her rolling has given me numerous advantages playing as her.

Mika: Unga bunga puncher with pretty simple execution of BnB though she does have alot of mix-up game that's more complicated if you learn to use it.

Enkidu: A rekka puncher with a neat counter and some easy execution moves but hard to master combos.

The one useful thing Enkidu's mission mode teaches you are the corner combos.

Here is a neat gimmick with Hilda against rushdown characters. In neutral, you can do the B version of Condense Gloom and point it towards yourself. Most rushdown characters will run towards you thinking you are trying to pin them down with Condense Gloom, only to get stabbed in the back. You then get a free combo. And if they stay put, then neutral continues as normal.

It's only punishable by a few characters that have fast full screen moves (Merkava, Hilda, Eltnum, etc). The only way rushdown characters can stop it is to anticipate the moment you are going to do it and start dashing at you early. But, if you are using Skewer properly, then they should be scared of just randomly running at you.

Went to locals today and got my ass beat. Not very populated on most weeks it seems, but I got a lot of advice on how the mindgames behind UNI works so I'll be working on that when I;'m less tired (and drunk). I also learned I can't land any combos outside of netplay delay.
Sai you've definitely gotten a lot better, even in the last week. You should play aroud with your pressure though Ending strings early into grabs, or practicing putting out 5C or kuugas after rebeats would help you a lot.

I don't know how you can land combos IN netplay delay. There are characters I avoid playing due strictly to that. Playing Chaos felt harder than it should have been.

It's what happens when you play exclusively netplay for 7 months. I don't even practice combos in training mode with delay and it still happens.

Yeah I definitely have been wanting to incorporate grabs into combos. Hopefully more practice will produce the results for that. I definitely felt like my strings were abit too same-y in my execution.

A few times earlier I've tried to TK kuuga out of combo strings but to no results sadly.

I just wish either of them showed up in the game. Or maybe be at Evo as one of their own games.

Just keep in mind that when you rebeat into your A moves or at the end of 214A~A, you have a few options. 5C, 2c, TK Kuuga, jump back air kuuga, backdash, depending on your opponents habits/character.

To clarify, this is at longer ranges. At close ranges, you can usually put out something like dash 5A.

They could even readjust his gameplay like they did with Akatsuki and put him in the game. Hearing the flashing of the kicks would be so satisfying.

Yeah switching between input environments is hard. Now I drop combos offline because of netplay timing and then drop them online because of offline timing.

To be fair, I didnt expect there to be a lobby on a friday so to my surprise I woke up to see a 200+ post thread with the lobby having just died. Not really anything to be done, just have fight another day.

PS4, though I've been questioning getting PC to play with new people too.

I'm on PC but I've only just started the game, I did all of Mika and Linne's missions (minus one for each) and haven't actually even fought any computers yet.

I see. Well the people I've played on here usually recommend against practicing your BnBs on CPU and instead getting the live experience but I think playing against a mid-level CPU would benefit alittle bit.

I think I'll pull the trigger on UNIST PC after all. Just give me a minute.

You can ask Sunday night when the regular lobby maker who mains Hyde is around, but I would suggest not to worry too much about safejump setups in a game that has delay tech.

You're honestly better off just baiting if you can describe it as "DP happy" if you know he's going to do it. Safejumps are risky when you're against someone who has that easy of a DP to mash the fuck out with.

Thanks a lot. I just started about two days ago so all I have to go off of are the mission mode stuff (which I've forgotten 9/10ths of) and Guilty Gear instincts. I'll try to get better to put up more of a fight for ya.

I think once you get a general feel for all of the moves that are safe and how to use CS and stuff appropriately you'll get good real fast.

You're already getting there faster than me. Took me quite a few weeks of getting my but kicked to get to where you're at. Hope we play again soon and next time I might see how you play Linne.

Is this stuff supposed to be for beginners? I know they're supposed to be actual good and practical combos, but they seem really overwhelming to remember and land consistently. And that's just in trial or training mode, I'm sure it'll be even harder in a real match.

For some characters (like Yuzu) they're required for practicing unique character traits like stances, bomb placement, etc.

Though personally, alot of the stuff I picked up I just copied by example from other people online.
