SA2 is a game that has aged poorly and is rather buggy, but can still be kind of fun. Fix the Treasure Hunt radar so it doesn't only detect one crystal at a time and go for something more similar to Gamma's level format in SA1 for the shooting levels and less people would probably shit on the non-Fast stages.

This. Friend of mine once showed me a mod that fixes the emerald radar making treasure hunting less of a pain. Doesn't stop levels like Mad Space from sucking shit
I also realized that Eggman had some of the better shooting levels, levels like Iron Gate, Cosmic Wall, and Weapons Bed just feel fun to break things in.

Seriously. The hunting stages are so fucking easy and great to farm what you want for chaos

other than the mech levels being kind of dull, SA2 is literally no better or worse than SA1

I think it's kind of reached a point where it's becoming underrated for how much of an easy target it became for Youtubers. It is nowhere even close to the worst Dreamcast or worst Sonic game, but you would think it was ET on Atari levels of bad for how often people whine about it.

On that note, ET isn't even the worst game on the Atari either.

They're filled with personality and (I really mean this unironically) soul. Even though so much of it is cheesy they always do a fantastic job at amping you up because you can really feel the musicians are giving it there all and you can feel it.

Speed levels are still the best and the mech levels could have been good but they're just too on rails and easy

I don't know what people you watch but the most common consensus I've seen literally everywhere is "It hasn't aged well but it's still fun". If anything people forgive it way too much.

SA2 is probably the most 'early 2000s' game ever made. it will be re-appraised bigtime in 5-10 years when 2000s nostalgia replaces 80s/90s nostalgia and all you fake asses will start acting like you always loved it

The only reason secret rings gets a pass is because it's not a burning tire fire like sonic 06. The game is still shit.

Funny considering that Secret Rings started out as a Wii port of Sonic '06 itself.

There's some theory I've seen that due to the original trailer only having Sonic, Knuckles and Robotnik as playable that they may have only intended for those three to be playable at first but then shoehorned Rouge, Tails and Shadow in and went for the mirror thing. Hence why Shadow only has like 3 stages, the needless padding of those two awful driving stages, and why Tails stages feel a bit weaker than Robotniks.

But that's just a theory...

It's a reasonable theory, especially since two of the aforementioned characters have those severely out of place driving stages.

Yeah I've never seen any real proof of that being the case but it certainly would explain a lot. Probably would've been a much better game if it stuck with the original plan, if that's true.

I also remember reading that originally SA2 was going to have branching storyline paths like in ShadowTH, which would've been interesting but I don't think they could've pulled that off, so I'm glad they ditched that idea.

The only bad thing about Eggman's levels is the music, it's all pretty forgettable, even when you're not comparing it to the other characters' tracks. But yeah, Eggman has a bunch of good levels which prioritize getting huge combos while moving as fast as you can.

I can agree, though Lost Colony and Cosmic Wall are decent in my opinion.

Final Windy Valley might as well be a straight line compared to this. What a shame we didn't get levels like this in the end.

I took deep joy in going into those chao gardens and kicking the ass out of those little monsters. I would take time out of my busy schedule afterschool just to give them hell. It gave me fulfillment unlike any other to watch those chaos cry. And when that was done i was sure to have satisfaction

It’s being reappraised NOW. The nostalgia for the game was already there, but more and more people are looking back at the SA series with a more critical eye. All the people who played it as kids grew up already.
