looks like crap
I SPEND 2k ON A MACHINE AND VR SET
IT'S SHIT
Fpbp
Hopefully it's more than a few hours long and has replayability.
Concept doesn't look very new but I see subtle good stuff. Normally weapons and objects 'snap' into position when you grab them but this looks more natural.
Then again, that could just be an animation.
I remember this shit in earlier stages
Doesn't look like an actual game yet but it's nice that they've drawn all the best VR innovations together like this.
We need some sort of VR-specific engine that streamlines this shit so other devs can use it to make their games instead of everyone (poorly) reinventing the wheel from scratch and not having any time left to make actual content.
The real question I just realized I have, is can I an hero in these games?
Looks pretty good, I hope it actually has a single player campaign of decent length.
It's physically based and there is a desync between your movement and your characters movement when there would be clipping or when you lift a heavy object.
The first thing I do in any VR game with guns is try to blow my own head off.
Usually works.
>tfw you can see
ANOTHER
FUCKING
TECH
DEMO
when the fuck am i going to get an actual game? my htc vive has been sitting in the corner for a -year-
Either Gaben releases the first "3 big VR games" ever or he continues to sit on his steam dollars like always
Not looking good tbqh
Nice.
Why is it so janky?
Is VR really still this shit?
There's been enough time to improve the technology.
I've pretty much given up and started assuming every new vr game in the next 3 years is going to be 4 hours long, a rhythm game, or typical steam shovelware garbage.
get rekt
Oculus rushed VR. Knuckles will be soon given how many devkits are going out but Valve HMD and games probably won't be for some time.
>tfw you think you're having fun but Yea Forums reminds you that you in fact are not
>5k+ better than 8k
Guess their upscaling is shit. Interesting. I know Linus was actually impressed by the upscaling when he first demoed it. I wonder if the future will be upscaling generally, but rendering specific elements that upscale poorly (like text and gauges) at native resolution.
To be fair it is stupid expensive to author all the assets needed for a full thing game in the HD era. It's still frustrating, though.
Yeah it sucks. I thought I was playing Distance in a way now desktop user will ever understand but nope, I was wrong.
You might be sick, user. Seek help.
Yeah they were pushing backers to switch to the 5k like crazy because they knew the 8k was a shit
Future is foveated rendering, anyone following VR will tell you this
I'm still going to get excited for GDC then let down by it being just knuckles at most
>saves VR
youtube.com
Just practicing for the big day!
M-maybe we could practice on each other?
Items have to be extra detailed to look good in VR. Even with the lower res, you really notice lack of detail you wouldn't notice on a monitor. The same applies for interactivity and good mechanics, so the reason some VR games are 'tech demos' is because they had to make the content good.
>movie game
yikes
Spearing headcrabs looks cool, I hope it's actual game and not an aimless physics sandbox.
Friendly reminder that the shooty version of Blade and Sorcery is hitting EA this month
youtube.com
is this a game where you just run around as a serial killer or something?
You can shoot yourself in another game by the same devs, it actually became a bit of a meta to deny the other player points.
You're a sociopathic hitman hired to massacre a cult out innawoods
The EA stuff just looks like murdering bald methhead clones though, I doubt it'll be anything resembling a game for quite some time
The devs need to meme this up as the next Hatred to trigger boomers and get free attention.
but only boomers have vr
I meant the game-censoring political boomer crowd but I guess it's the millennials now.
is this thread poorfag free?
It's cool, its obviously a game about killing cis white alt-righters
VR is the poorest platform when you think about it

This is literally Half-Life 3, and it's coming for VR, which you can't afford. Get fukked.
Man, I've killed myself in all VR games that allow it. You can't imagine how many cars have I totaled just because I felt like driving into a wall in AC.
HLVR is literally HL3 not this H3VR ripoff
Shut up Sam I know it's you
VR is a gimmick.
lmao, you can do that? Stupid bitch.
after artifact I wouldn't trust valve to deliver a good game ever again, I wouldn't even trust them to deliver a fucking pizza
>H3VR rip-off
except H3VR will always be a huge fucking blue-ball because the dev is a communist Reddit fuck that hates fun and actually is a retard when it comes to game design.
I wouldn't really think that Artifact was a product of Valve's A-team, more like something interns slapped together while everyone else is working on important things.
Valve's in deep on VR and have been for a long time. If they're being secretive it's for good reason, Facebook has pulled some extremely kikey shit behind the scenes.
True, I fucking hate these sosigs
Like shooting the wavy tube arm things from car retailers
OH NO NO NO
Fuck VR goggles. I'm gonna buy a kit of 3D Vision glasses along with my new monitor.
>OH NO NO NO
what did he mean by this?
IT'S WAGGLAN! LIKE WII WITH A PHONE STRAPPED TO YOUR FACE! NOOOO
nice """""""gameplay"""""""
Shut up nerd, I'm false flaggin here.
well stop it, just disregard poorfags
Looks neat. I've been waiting for something worth playing on this besides porn

I'm so tired of this trope and I need it to die.

Wow, nice fucking demo, Valve making another shitty engine showcase baka desu senpai

>Expecting VR games to be perfect in 2019
Nigga just accept you wont get nothing but glorified tech demos. An actual hoverboard is probably more likely at this point.
They explicitly tell you the game is narrative-driven, jesus you guys are dense.
Holy christ does this entire game run at 12 fps
No, it's just that the trailer wasn't rendered at 60 for some reason
How deluded do you have to be to have any faith in modern valve? Nigga the only dev team they had left made artifact.
Already posted nerd
Also somehow their newer stuff actually looks downgraded
youtube.com
nu-Valve made The Lab which is excellent for what it is.
Only a retard would think it would take the entirety of Valve to make a fucking card game. I can't even think of a lower-effort endeavor than that.
Because they came up with great VR APIs, platform, tracking and now controllers? Valve is in the forefront of VR right now while Oculus is a dead faceberg meme that sold out to mobileshit.
Probably them making sure the early access release will run well on most PCs.
>russian accent
yeah it's going to be an eternal broken nongame
That's the interviewer you retard, also that's not a russian accent. Kill yourself.
Shitposting aside Beat Saber, Robo Recall, Pavlov VR and Elite Dangerous are enough of a reason to own a VR in 2019.
Too bad they don't really make games or port their own crap for VR. Left 4 Dead with Pavlov controls would be amazing, CS:Source with Pavlov controls would BTFO Pavlov in a minute.
It really is a shame, HL2 and Portal are so good in VorpX even with the nosegunning and jank.
They actually gave a modteam the greenlight to do a full VR port of HL2 but turns out they're complete fags who haven't released shit despite "working" on it for 2 years. Last I heard Valve denied their application for Knuckles lol.
Imagine if Valve somehow made so all Source and GoldSource content were easy to port for VR.
Imagine if someone made Dark Messiah of Might and Magic for VR. With Blade and Sorcery mechanics.
Can't believe RE7 never came out on PC VR. A survival horror VR game would be the greatest thing ever.
Never trust Capcom
Also play Alien Isolation with MotherVR
I wonder if it was planned at some point. Somebody made a first person mod and the hand animations work like it was intentional. I'm tempted to get that and VorpX.
Though to honest, games like Hellblade show that third person works fine in VR. They could have added basic support for the headset and kept the controls the same.
:^)
where do you lads put your lighthouses? I've got it set up like this on my desk but when I bend down to pick stuff up from the ground, I lose tracking. Its fine 90% of the time but a huge pain when it comes up. would a third lighthouse work?
pic related, top down view, lighthouses are circles me at bottom
that re7 in vr? on pc?
It's just SBS, but you can view it with SteamVR media viewer
Think it was made with Depth3D
i don't have room and basically if a game demands me to interact beneath my desk level it ain't happening.
Games like i expect you to die that allow you to 'levitate' stuff to your grips are a god send.
Aren't you supposed to mount them up high angled downwards?
On the walls diagonally opposite of each other like you're supposed to.
I'm Rift but I found it's well worth mounting the sensor/lighthouses high up in the corners of the room. Besides better coverage, you're not knocking them and upsetting your guardian space.
They need to have a line of sight. If you have them at the back of your desk, you will always have problems since the desk will block them. If you are talking about Rift cameras, a third one would help to ensure they can see from every angle. If you actually mean lighthouses, you need to read the instructions that came with them.
thanks lads I did mean Rift shit.
>get new glasses
>headset doesnt fit with them anymroe
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA JUST FUCK MY SHIT UPPPP
Rift? There are roomier HMDs and people also get 3d printed prescription lens adapters.
what do you even do when this happens? can you adjust the lens positions inside the headset?
>non glasses Vive user, but I've had glasses friends complain about it
Get contacts
Not him but contacts were pure cancer for me when I tried it, took me like half a hour to remove them and my eyes became a bit hypersensitive to light with weird glares for a considerable time after (months), and I just wore the contacts for a single day.

So?
Wonder why they're being so secretive about it...
Really activates my almonds
It means there's nothing coming soon.
Steamdb doesn't get continuously updated during the development of a game dingus, games are developed outside of steam and steam DB gets game updates to their steam page/info
youtu.be
My guess is that they are working closely with the devs and will publish it themselves, there are lots of obviously Half-Life inspired stuff in the game too like the robot headcrabs, it basically looks like a spiritual spin-off.
lel thats the video where i got steamdb from
youtube.com
Devs released a 16 min gameplay vid, it looks very sandboxy for now but hopefully it turns into not-half-life 3.
>It's like half life because crowbars, robot crabs and uhh
Tyler you literal madman
It's being developed with and intended to be played with the Knuckles controllers. There are several behind the scenes videos of it.
This is going to feel like shit without the feeling of weight behind actions.
Then every game you've ever played in your life must have felt like shit.
Until they can project a 3d hologram into the room, VR will never be good. There is nothing less immersive than strapping a brick to your head and waving around a dildo with flashing LEDs.
The devs talk about it in the latest vid and say how the IK body actually helps to remedy that disconnect of "phantom movement", it fools your brain into thinking that it's your actual body and stuff like climbing and lifting heavy stuff feels more immersive.
Thanks for your uninformed meme opinion.
I want all SAOfags to die a painful death
Just put them wherever Zuckerberg can get the best 3D scans if your nuts.
I mean it really isn't
Depth perception and looking around puts you in a place more than you would think if you hadn't tried it
So not in your lifetime then.
After playing Blade and Sorcery I'll buy into that. It really works.
I can see you in the 1980's
>until we have 3D graphics and more controller buttons there is no reason to play video games! Nintendo is a meme!
I've tried it. It's really uncomfortable. Your brain can tell the difference between looking at a monitor half an inch from your face and real life.
AN ACTUAL VIDEOGAME COMING OUT
DOOMSAYERS BTFO
I bet it's going to take years and already feel dated by the time it comes out just like Hover Junkers
They were right, there was no good video game in the 80's.
You didn't set the IPD right fucking idiot.
I'm shitposting from VR rfn
how exactly can you do that? I really wanna do that but there's so many VR desktop apps
You haven’t tried it. The feeling of presence is the one thing that home VR does incredibly well. I fail to see why you’d want to tell blatant lies about something you have no experience with. It boggles my mind.
not him but bigscreen is free
unless he tried mobile/early
Ahh so not only do I have to clear a space and strap a brick to my face, but now i have to fuck with settings every time I want to use it? It's starting to sound tedious, on top of being shit.
It feels like shit. They can never wrap the monitor around your eyes in such a way that it fills 100% of your vision and so it will always feel awkward.
Just the fact that you didn't even know IPD was a thing shows how utterly ignorant you are about VR, it's like one of the first things you learn.
Your opinion is worthless.
This is the kind of rage that can only come from a man who wasted hundreds of dollars on a gimmicky toy.
>jump into a public room in Bigscreen
>turn my head to the right and watch some dude jerking off while he has porn playing in the giant movie theater
>he turns and looks directly at me, then back to the screen, without missing a beat
>doesn't say a word
I'm angry at your stupidity, that's all.
I wonder how the media will feel like when they learn that there are actual children mingling with naked 30-somethings in VR chatrooms.
>Strap a star trek gadget to your head and wave your arms around
Yes, it's other people who are stupid
This is the frontier lad
VRChat needs to be killed with fire, social VR is a mistake
This looks legitimately awful OP
>autistic weeb posters ruin anything

Glory to Slaanesh
>There's been enough time to improve the technology.
There hasn't.
New version of SkyrimVR IK Body out
it's coming out this year. it's already been in development 2 years and is apparently the result of two other projects they had going being cancelled(?) and merged into this one, using the unexpectedly popular/successful branding which had originally been just for a single tech demo.
Where's the dick and balls?
Just stop being a genetic dead end that needs glasses.
Sometimes I imagine what the video game industry would be like if it was completely open source. All assets, models, textures, engines, etc. People would contribute to a huge repository and everyone could make great games. Only issue is that there wouldn't be as much profit.
crowbars
mind-control/zombification crab enemies that try to jump on your head
trains
'test chamber' signs
PREY 2017 style 'Looking Glass' 3D video walls creating illusory environments (cut part of Portal 2). specifically of an environment that looks like the old The Lab longbow scene. and the Looking Glass in the scene is the form of a hanging curtain, just like in longbow.
whalesong/metal-moan sample in the music (Portal audio aesthetic).
hey look at this screenshot of the half-life 3 tech demo
The similarities are crazy and the steamdb thing scares me, could it be an epic bamboozle by Valve?
durrr maybe they're just Valve fanboys? NO IT MUST BE GABENS 4D CHESS
high kek
Damn, just by looking at this I can tell it's way more advanced then half of the VR games I love and play.
I'll start getting really excited if the physics in this game are built upon or even licensed out to other games.
From what the devs were saying, it's taken over 2 years to get to this point and the only real feasible way we'll see VR games expand is if this is the standard.
It seems like it's unreasonable for every VR game starting from scratch to be at this level, if this becomes like a Source engine of VR games I'd get extremely hyped.
See I wouldn't bat an eye if it was just these soft references but Valve is involved somehow, it's obviously not Half-Life 3 but their finger is there.
I think there's pros and cons to that having seen what the lure of money has done to the TES modding community.
Given how expensive it is to generate photorealistic assets and PBR standardizing things quite a bit, I've wondered about the advantages of having a communal repository. Of course lowering barriers to game creation has already led to an enormous flood of trash that has made self-promotion prohibitively expensive...
No perfect solutions.
Is this supposed to be a big title for VR fags? Because holy shit lmao, how desperate do they have to be to unironically think it looks good.
>Damn, just by looking at this I can tell it's way more advanced then half of the VR games I love and play.
It's because they basically cribbed all the best ideas that have risen to the top during this primordial era of VR and put it in one "game." Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.
>60 Ricochet
>61 Steam Master
It's obviously Ricochet VR
Looks like someone reskinned Gmod and turned it VR
This shit looked fucking nuts. That ravenholm segment is pure vidya kino
>big red valve
a very affectionate Valve-approved portal/half-life ludo-parody.
SLZ has their own ideas for their own full-featured AAA experiences which have nothing to do with Half-Life. unless they've secretly been acquired, that is.
>unless they've secretly been acquired, that is.
They might be sucking up hard in hopes that happens
Were their other games even good?
>big black cock
It doesn't look even nearly finished though, unless there's a lot more to it than the sandbox room they showed.
No one is forcing you to wear huge obnoxious frames. Get some smaller glasses or maybe try to get into contacts.
fucking tech demos.
always the same shit
>game is a tech demo
>runs like shit
>sequels are shittier with less feature.
developers are lazy never forget
Fake picture that hides how fucking blurry the ody+ actually is.
It seems like every "fuck around in VR" game merged together, so basically infinite playtime.
I've got hundreds of hours in H3VR.
wdf? is this like a paypal credit statment?
>support a streamer so much that if you cancel payment their spending budget goes down
I always see this thumbnail and never click on it because it looks like a real video.
Not really. The only way is to report the paying account as a scam which gets that account banned.
yeah. so far they've done Hover Junkers, which was one of the big Vive launch titles which Valve/HTC have already helped push heavily (but did inevitably fail just due to being such an early VR-only multiplayer-only game), and then Duck Season which is just fantastic. more like an interactive horror movie, in terms of length and focus, but with a good amount of content regardless (if you go for collecting all endings and especially if you actually dig deeper).
they're a weird studio in that they're also a moderately successful youtube gaming-LPer/personality channel (youtube.com
It bugs me so much that this sorta thing doesn't work in H3VR (which does have climbing) so I'm happy to see this.
>that split second where he falls at the end
Neetbux came in. Buy a headset and GPU or wait til GDC?
probably a sign not to expect any Valve VR game news any time soon (HLVR or anything else). boneworks is going to be the knuckles 'killer app' in lieu of anything from Valve themselves.
Wait for Valve HMD & Knuckles
Any second now...
wait till GDC and possibly beyond. wait for more concrete info on Valve HMD and possible other more direct competitors to it (assuming it is in fact a generational advancement unto itself).
it feels like someone has to be gearing up for a commercial foveated display.
I hate nu-valve, but I am of the minority that likes what they are trying to do with VR and Linux. Hopefully they can make the industry thrive with their headset. Facebook is going into the walled Garden route with mobile VR and I don't just want to have WMR tracking solutions.
An Oculus engineer said foveated rendering is like 4 years away
I wonder if it is taking long because they need the eye tracking to work with all irises. My blue eyes probably track easy but it is harder when you are trying to distinguish the pupil and irises in shitskin brownish blacks.
I got laser eye surgery so I wouldn't pass it along to my kinds.
An Israeli researcher said the cure for cancer will com next year as well, doesn't mean that timeframe is correct. The fact the new headsets coming out this year have eye tracking tech means foveated rendering will be here sooner than we think.
He's the one working on this shit to begin with
youtu.be
How do you walk around? Or are you just standing still the whole time?
VR is still just gimmicks.
That would be a poor decision and waste of your money user. Trust me, 3D Vision sucks. I played with it for ten years and the 3D forceware driver with the edimensional glasses before that.
Nvidia gives no shits about 3D Vision and its not as good as 3D in even a cheap headset like the Acer one.
like every game in existence: analog stick
I thought a huge issue with VR was using analog sticks for first person movement since it doesn't feel right and makes the user sick. That is why there is room scale and teleporting. Has that changed?
No, it was a meme by people who would get sick just moving around normally aka the average obese american, everyone hates games that don't have stick movement nowadays.
Not everyone gets sick and those of us who do can get over it
Multiple locomotion options is standard now with smooth and teleport being essential
I saw a neat concept video when vive first launched which had a bit of both: roomscale in first person, but you could zoom out the camera to 3rd with a button press. Then you could control in 3PP with an analog stick and zoom back into 1PP for roomscale. It seemed like a novel way to solve the issue.
Sounds like an overcomplicated solution that disrupts gameplay
First person motion controls don't map to third person cameras
People way overthought the VR issues early on, Valve also said that you shouldn't ever move the player without them doing it themselves or else it would cause motion sickness but Boneworks is the complete opposite of that, with all sorts of physics tied to the head and hands.
The typical orbiting camera in 3rd person games is more likely to cause an issue than 1st person movement. It will actually take some innovation to convert 3rd person games while 1st person can convert to VR directly
>oculus setting low expectations
no shit.
people have been playing with foveated rendering for decades. it's something that's currently not a fundamental feature of major middleware game engines and may take several years for them to fully implement as such (as opposed to it being more on individual developers to implement), but it isn't anything like the hard barrier Oculus has tried to sell it as. we're going to be getting there bit by bit over the next few years. Vive Pro Eye is coming this year (supposedly this quarter but we'll see), pimax eye tracking modules coming eventually (same story, supposedly this year but we'll see). and again there's the imminent behemoth of the valve hmd whose display specs/features are a total mystery, and then of any potential direct responses to that.
that's not even what i was talking about, though. foveated display concept is related but technically/mechanically almost entirely different. there isn't the same fundamental rendering pipeline support issues because you're generally talking about doing just two different images, as opposed to the analog-like spread that 'foveated rendering' hypothetically calls for.
foveated rendering is stupid pointless shit next to foveated display.
>Relying on the "Good Will" of horny teenagers to survive
Literally more shameless than being a stripclub dancer, at least you can keep that money and know somebody isn't going to take the G-String tips out of your bank account later.
you can't possibly be this retarded

>is on a package created by Valve
OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES
THIS IS -ACTUALLY- HLVR
Pretty underwhelming then
None of this is fresh and has been done in other games
So hype for this. I wish more games cast you as a mercenary in a relatively grounded setting.
>*makes yet another realistic fps multiplayer game to scrabble for the small pool of players*
It was looking great until the enemies looked like shit, didn't seem like much variety.
The reason it's on the package is because Valve was given an early version to mess with while developing their VR hardware.
They'll probably buy Stress Level Zero though.
I feel your pain user, it's really difficult to tell these days
Got anymore of these stories?
Hopefully it comes out packaged with their VR headset
no, StressLevelZero has been publicly working on this for years. it had been just a tech demo (for tech to be used in other future games), but apparently they've decided to make it its own thing.
there is definitely some significant valve connection, but unless this is truly the biggest ruse of all time, HLVR is still something else entirely.
It's absolutely retarded that nobody has made VR Gmod yet
>Another shallow horde mode shooter with shitty physics that will get old after five minutes.
Why the fuck are VR games so derivative? Where's the creativity?
whaddup, son?
Where the fuck did you see the "horde mode"? They explicitly tell you it's narrative driven with a big focus on physics puzzles and stuff.
>physics puzzles
bump
Tales of Glory just got a huge update, including the demo
Going to go and try it, hopefully it doesnt bug out on me
10:1 it's going to be structured very similarly to Portal. a series of 'test chambers' (excusing any need for creating natural environments with the desired level design) with foreshadowing and background environmental storytelling, and then a brief section of 'real game' (with more natural environments).
it's going to be a very meta game. that 'welcome home' door probably literally connects to Duck Season in the actual game. possibly you'll fight The Dog as a boss (have to dig through piles of weapons looking for the NES Blaster?)
