It isn't, though. Anyone who feels it's good is blinded by their nostalgia.
Why do Sonic fans have the thickest rose tinted glasses? The ONLY ok parts of the game are Sonic’s and shadow’s and even half pf those were shit. It IS NOT FUN shooting things with tails/eggman or finding things with Knuckles/Rouge.
I swear to god even SA1 is better and that game fucking sucks as well with the amount of bugs it has
the fucking bat tits bounced
they bounced bros
so big and right in your face they bounced
I'm playing Sonic Adventure 2 with my friend next week, which route should she start with?
No it isn'y only 1/3 of the game is good if you like anything other than the sonic levels you are blinded by nostalgia it aged like milk. only hte chao garden is good
Okay I posted it for you NPCs you don't have to now.
Dark story
SA1 > SA2
I figured, I remembered significantly more bullshit in that and I want her to see bat tits
The Sonic levels are good but I'm still not sure confident in his movements as I am in a 3D Mario game. It feels like I'm more at risk than the creators intended for me to feel.
It's not even as good as SA1
The HUB world is artificial elongation. Even Sonic 06 would be at least okay without Soleanna.
You're right, its not good, its great.
Why is Shadow not in Smash? We have Joker and Ritcher, characters nobody voted on but not Shadow?
LIVE AND LEARN
>That Nintendo logo right under the Sonic cast
Yeah don't forget to suck the dust from the GameCube's fan Sega you cucks
Should have partner led with Sony like your American division wanted to instead of betting it all on a glitchy 3D Platformer
sure but the hubs are soulful
SA2 would be at least okay without mech levels
Third party series generally only get one be rep
They only just put in a character from Castlevania and Persona series from the 90s and 80s. Gonna take them another decade to even consoder non nintendo side characters
>instead of betting it all on a glitchy 3D Platformer
But thats what nintendo did and it worked out.
don't ever reply to me with a post about smash trash again
>Shitty kirby twitter memes
This place has too many underage faggots.
okay then the hubs are comfy :^)
>Street fighter
This.
Hope she enjoys it at least a little bit
I wanted a second Sonic character in Smash but meh, shit happens. No idea why he isn't in, I'm assuming it might have to do with SEGA, but who knows
Reminder that no matter how much you guys reee at this game, it is still seen as great by the general public and every normalfag that has ever played sonic is waiting for the sequel.
Because it just plays like a 2D Sonic game but in 3D, something that every other 3D Sonic game has failed to do with the exception of
>not playing sonic unleashed
It isn't, but it's not god awful either. SA2 is frustrating since you usually either find someone who thinks it's the second coming of Christ or someone who thinks that it's complete trash. The reality is that SA2 is just "okay." You can not like the shooting and hunting stages all you want but the fact is that they function perfectly well and the only major issue with either of them is the mech's controls being slippery. Yes the story is dumb as fuck but you can always skip those cutscenes if they're so offensive to you.
People really get riled up over this game and I just don't get it. It can't just be that one Youtuber fag that caused such animosity and divisiveness towards this game. It's been present for some time now. At the end of the day, it's just a mediocre 3D platformer with a weird Shonen flavored plot slapped onto it that also happens to feature Sonic characters. Of course, that's all just looking at this as a game in a vacuum, and not looking at the meta impact it had on the series going forward, (we would've never had games like ShadowTh or Sonic '06 for example without SA2) but that's another autistic can of worms.
"Just" like? Lmao, no. "Sort of" like? Maybe, yeah. The only thing it has in common with the 2D Sonic games is the inclusion of some momentum physics. That's literally it. Most of the gameplay is scripted out the ass and is more about spectacle than anything else.
Are they gonna add Batman next?
Despite flaws the game feels polished and smooth, the levels feel generally well designed and the game has good replay value/post game content, you're always getting something for what you do in level replays
>buffs for chaos in the garden
>different modes like cart racing
>different characters to unlock in 2p mode
>different costumes
>green hill zone as a 10th anniversary homage
Game should have had like 2/3 Sonic and Shadow levels and the rest a mix of the other 2 styles
PC ports are buggy as fuck. Dreamcast is best
Why does every Classic sonic model look shit in 3D? Is there a way to make a decent looking model that looks good from the back running? I guess that's why they redesigned him in the first place.
>Why is this the only good 3D Sonic game?
Because they knew while developing the game that Sega was getting out of the console business, were going third-party, and their financial issues meant they were likely going to get bought out by someone else (as they eventually were by Sammy), the future of the Sonic brand was completely up in the air. As a result, the developers just focused on making the best game they could using whatever ideas they felt like instead of having to be a slave to whatever higher corporate wanted from the franchise. It didn't need to worry about being a tech demo or competing with Mario, it for possibly the first and last time in the franchise's entire existence was allowed to just be Sonic.
It's not good, it's just less bad than the others.
Joker and Robin are in Smash so they might as well.
I like this one.
The best thing about this game is the music.
youtu.be
What blatant bait is this? SA2 is a 3/10 at best.
SA1 was good once you got over the shitty modes. SA2 has the same problem with it's eggman levels. Unleashed is decent and the wearhog levels aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be, they're just out of place and not what people wanted. Colors and Generations are solid games by boost shit standards it's just that what they go for is entirely divorced from the concept that classic and adventure styled sonic tries to achieve and the format of GOTTA GO FAST QUICK REACT is really limiting in terms of what can be done with it. But yeah everything else is garbage
SA1 is better
This, and this doesn't make it not fun
The only """good""" 3D sonics are the first 2 adventures and colors/generations
The rest are trash that lean way too hard into their gimmicks and just stray way too far from what made the originals fun
Any Sonic game where you're forced to spend more than 5-6 minutes in a level based on how its designed and not just because of a confusing puzzle is bad
That looks good but its basically adventure sonic with black eyes.
its not. Tails stages are liquid shit
How can you call Colors good but then complain about gimmicks when Colors is literally the most gimmicky Sonic game ever created.
What gimmicks? it's simple straight forward Sonic
No friends, no over lengthy levels, fair challenge. Even the game just drops you right in at level one. It's great
The wisps are hardly on the same level of "gimmick" as the werehog or heroes or shadows awful stop and go gameplay, those are more like learning different moves as you go, like light dash in the adventure games
Colors at least did some neat things with its gimmicks that weren't too intrusive and let you play most of the stages how you wanted. Like using Wisps to find new pathways and take shortcuts
You sound bitter. It improved upon SA1's good parts(Sonic stages) while getting rid of the things that made SA1 boring and tedious(big lobbies that served no purpose, Big and Amy stages). It wasn't perfect but it was a good step forward. The Sonic and Shadow stages were very scripted, yes, but played enough like a classic Sonic game that they were entertaining - the first time, at least. The shooting stages were inoffensive, and the hunting stages were at least only occasional.
It is a shame that we never got to see Sonic Team polish this formula further with a third game, because after it they just fucking gave up and started making Sonic-centric games with even further casualized controls that play nothing like classic Sonic.
Sonic Mania was the series' saving grace after SA2 and if they don't capitalize on it and start making more games like it the series is doomed.
For that to be true it would have to be good.
The wisp are fucking horrendous and the fact that the levels are designed around them doesn't help. The level design is blocky mario tier shit with gimmicky garbage in half of them. Its barely a sonic game besides the few "speed" set pieces they add in.
>new sonic racing game coming
>they cut all the sega all stars and just left the sonic characters
Fucking why, i cant be the only one who felt completely unhype after realizing this
>cringe
I love Colors but I will admit some stages are pretty gimmicky. Like the shorter Acts usually were, like the ones with the yellow spring boards, that one stage that was just a full lap multiple times around a planet's ring, etc.
As long as the gameplay is good and as fun as the others then I'm fine. Not to mention the stages they've shown lately seem pretty interesting too.
>Fucking why, i cant be the only one who felt completely unhype after realizing this
I'm a segafag but you just have to realize 99% of people could give no shits about the other sega characters user. Sad world we live in.
Pretty much this. I'm not a huge fan of SEGA franchises and I did enjoy using some of them on occasion, but it isn't a big loss cutting them. Besides, SEGA can always just make a game that's apart of that subseries that isn't racing. A lot of people tend to forget that there was a tennis game before Sumo became the designated Sonic racing game dev
They would care if they included the characters people did give a shit about. Imagine a new Sega racer with Yakuza, Atlus and Miku characters instead of franchises that have been dead since the 90s.
That would be nice, in fact, I would love it if for the next game they tried to full on one up Mario Kart by having every SEGA and Sonic racer present in all the previous games, plus new racers based on SEGA franchises like Yakuza and Persona, plus like 40+ tracks and mirror mode versions of them as well. Of course this would require the company to give the studio a much higher budget than they did for the ones we've gotten so far, but we can always dream.
cringe
is this game even decent? It's been on the backburner for me, and I've been kinda avoiding it. God, I hate Boost2Win gameplay. Why can't we just get Adventure style physics and spindash.
it's so "not bad but not good" that it shouldn't even exist
you won't feel like you wasted your time, but you won't remember having fun with it either
SA1 is good, you're all cowards
It's not that great unless you're easily amused and want a cheap game to kill a few hours of one day of your life
You never cease to surprise me blue hedgehog, I thought that capsule you were in exploded in space..
Yikes.
>You can not like the shooting and hunting stages all you want but the fact is that they function perfectly well
>and the only major issue with either of them is the mech's controls being slippery.
So not perfectly well. Also you fuckers get on my nerves ignoring Tails. Tails being in a mech at all aside, that decision putting Tails back in as playable instead of accepting Sonic Team's decision to leave him out (because god forbid it's not like that was technically done like 3 times before SA2), I'm 100% convince he's so rushed to be added in his hitbox does not match his mech and thus, he has so many chances to clip though the slightest edge of a platform when given the chance. FUCK HIS DESERT ZONE, I will never remember its name to this day because how much bullshit it always give me when I play it, it's that fucking awful. The only time mech was remotely enjoyable in the slightest was Eggman's space level, where the controls became tolerable, but mostly, because you were literally ON RAILS 90% of the time so all you had to do was spam A to win. The mechs are objectively poorly executed and majorly poorly designed, regarded if the point of Sonic is going fast, whether or not you're shit at the game, just the better you are, the faster you get, not the slower you keep playing at.
And going back to the addition of Tails, if the fuck nugget Tailsfags fucked off, Shadow and Rouge would also not have been wasted into making playable, meaning Sonic and Knuckles would have had the best polished and stages, which to me, WAS the better playable characters in the game even at the final release. I don't necessarily had the biggest grudge on Tails, but thanks to his entitled little nignog fagbase, SA2 went from being an absolutely genuine good game on it's own instead of ending up being only good because of pure unadulterated autism. Pure Nintendie tier autism. Bat Titties, Edgy Sonic OCs and exposing all of that within fighting the government because "Shonen".
You just have shit taste boyo
I considered it good for it's time but man did it age terribly.
Literal Autism
based
>not the modded PC version with Dreamcast models and instant spindash
Literally the worst first-party Sonic game since 06.
You know what can I say? I die hard!
Sega didn't want him stealing Sonic's spotlight in Smash
damn where is this from. Looks sexy as fuck
Rafa-Knight, ex-employee of SEGA.
SA1 > SA2
But I like Heroes more than both, even though I understand why people don't like it.
Rafa's just getting art stolen nowadays:
twitter.com
warn me before you post cringy shit
Sonic is unpopular on glorious nippon land, the place that only matters in the eyes of Sakurai, for the most time. this is why Ritcher and Ken got priority
looks decent from the side but if it was used in a actual 3D game behind the back it would look awkward as fuck
>Forced mech sections.
Instantly worse than SA1.
Sonic is popular enough in Japan, but the important part to remember is that he's popular as a mascot. Sonic doesn't represent his own series, he represents Sega, like how Pac-Man represents Namco. Shadow would just be an ordinary character.
this game is so aggressively average it's disgusting
You're just shitposting. Even the Utopia model looks fine from behind. So does that one low poly model made for Sonic Robo Blast 2.
And ffs why is it so important to see the back of someones head for for the sake of appeal? Who literally likes the look of humans from the back outside of ass, there's a reason we wanna see the face more than anything. And if you wanna talk "awkward" go play Sonic 06. Tentacle quills look like shit.
>>Forced Tails mech sections.
FTFY
What about Mario for Nintendo or Pikachu for Game Freak?
>Even the Utopia model looks fine from behind
No it doesn't
>And ffs why is it so important to see the back of someones head for for the sake of appeal?
Well considering sonic is a video game character that would be pretty important for a 3D game.
Why do Unleashedfags hate this game so much?
Shitposting... For real, what's so major about the back of the body for Sonic? What makes modern even look better? I never had a problem with either until they made them turbo long in Riders and 06.
*his quills turbo long
>Shitposting... For real, what's so major about the back of the body for Sonic? What makes modern even look better?
Well you look at it the entire game so if it looks like shit it makes the game look worse.
Modern looks like shit too don't get me wrong. I think Sa1 and Sa2 were the only games where Sonic looked decent in 3D.
Sonicfags hate this game Mariofags and nintendniggers are the only ones that defend it.
>Well you look at it the entire game so if it looks like shit it makes the game look worse.
I never had this point even with Riders and 06. At worse I just adjust to it because what's more important in a game is... the gameplay. Like, is this really something most people complain about?
Takes the strengths of Unleashed and ruins them by making the levels much shorter, making boost much more limited, and making the levels much more gimmicky, while solving none of the problems with Unleashed's day gameplay like lack of proper 3D gameplay and linear corridor hallways for levels.
>2/3 of 2D sections for a supposed 3D game
>blocky platforming
>introduced iizuka's pet child that will never leave the franchise
>start of pontaff era for sonic storytelling
>the DS game is superior
Its not the biggest deal but I feel it is important enough to bring up.
Adventure 2 introduced Iizuka's pet child, the Wisps are Kishimoto's pet child, which is why they were included in Forces, a game Iizuka had nothing to do with.
Even though I poured hundreds of hours into SA2 and I have a lot of nostalgic attachments to the game I can say with confidence SA2 isn't a great game
Its not awful, but its just not designed well at all. Some of the speed stages have questionable level designs (i.e. the switches in Pyramid Cave that only show up for that one stage), the infamous emerald radar and pretty much everything related to the shooting stages
kishimoto's pet child is Zavok
I like Sonic more than Mario and I love Colors
>Iizuka's pet child is a pretty interesting character all things considered and only adds to games.
>Kishimoto's pet child is a garbage gimmick that ruins gameplay
When will Iizuka fire Kishimoto
>I like Sonic more than Mario and I love Colors
You were probably really young when colors came out
I was, yes. But even now that I recognize the flaws I still enjoy the game. Which is kind of how I feel most Sonic games are, flawed but fun
Understandable have a nice day user
I have to admit that there are areas where Colors really shines. Limiting the boost allowed the level designers to create some really multi-path layouts without having to worry that the player would blast through them in five seconds, and the emphasis on score attack over pure speed means the player is encouraged to actually explore the level and take a less direct route to the goal if it means getting more rings and especially red rings. The problem was that for every one level that was like that, there were like three or four really tiny gimmicky levels that made Forces look lengthy. It's really hilarious that in all of the modern Generations levels it's the Colors stage that was the longest and had the most amount of split paths and biggest gulf between skill floor and skill ceiling.
>The switches that only show up on Pyramid Cave
Ah yes, the easy to use and understand level gimmicks that you totally didn't hear about from Projared.
I really don't know why he thought that was a good idea.
Reciting his review wasn't intentional but I still think they could have been done a little better, or at least let you keep your jump height while carrying the keys. I doubt the thing weighs more than maybe ten pounds
Because you like Sonic in a Mario game autist. You don't care about what's Sonic's core gameplay is, just he's in the game.
That's one of my favorite things about it too. I still love going back and experimenting with it.
Actually I do like the core values of Sonic. I've played all the Classics several times and love a majority of the games.
Meant to say gameplay, but whatever.
The sequel already came out in 2006
This thing is only Sonic on the outer layer.
Fuck off, you retarded normie.
SA2 is bad, though. SA1 is miles better.
