That's because FO4 is an "RPG" where your choices are supposed to have impact and mean something and change the story. With Persona, you're mostly just along for the ride. Your diolague really only affects shit with your confidants and the bad endings.

Honestly yeah it's pretty bad.
Persona protags are the worst of both worlds, they're not really self-inserts (fixed design, no real story choices) but they're not proper characters either. The only reason they get by is because their designs are sleek.

Persona 5's protagonist is especially horrible at being a self-insert because of the twist that literally has him doing things during the game behind the player's back. If Hashino was self-aware and not a hack that could have been an interesting deconstruction, but instead it comes off as terrible writing.

Big jagged shapes and mashed up text positioned at random different orientations is not good design, then you have the visual clutter and zero depth which makes everything distracting

It's stylish. Everything you need to access is shifted to the left of the art on the right, contrasting with the red background. This makes it stand out, but still retain the unique feel that jives with the overall art style of the menu. I can understand if it's not your thing, but it's certainly not a bad design.

Everything is fighting for your attention. They made a good cool blurring one side in red but then left everything else in the foreground separated only by slight colour changes. Literally everything in that image, in a design sense, is pulling the attention of your eyes all over the place. The main point of attention does not have enough of its own clarity, that diagonal colour change isn't enough since its seated next to so much clutter. It's like a 101 of how not to do design

Both sections behind the character should be blurred. The character and their hand is the only visual flair needed but then they just continue to slap words all over the place and thin lines which are known in the industry to misalign viewing audiences from the major focal point

The background patterns on the right are coded as background filler by anyone with a functioning brain. You don't need to make them blurry and soft just because you personally have issues with sensory inputs. The main character in the middle is the obvious standout part of the background and a normal person's view will be drawn from him to his hand, due to the hand being in between the character and the viewer. Not coincidentally, the hand is also where all the relevant information is located. Nothing needs to be changed just because of mid-30s marketing idiots still trying to justify their student loans sit around in a conference room trying to make everything as boring and non-threatening as possible.
