They straight up tried to tone the game down to get the EVO audience. Then when they realised it wasn't working they delayed the game and changed their marketing focus and hastily implemented new sexually provocative outfits and worked on improving the jiggle physics.
Compare the marketing before and after the delay and it's night and day. That along with the delay reason being that they wanted to "improve expressivity".

not to mention the hundreds of uncounted hours of 5 and 4 on xbox
My only gripe with the gameplay the break guage and how combos seem to to insane amounts of damage compared to 5
especially with the Fatal Stun shit. You can cancel a break blow after the first it and it basically becomes a full combo reset letting you do almost your entire combo again
Being able to mash SSSS for flashy combos, universal counter, etc.
Completely unnecessary changes that were made to casualize the game.
All this on top of switching to an inferior engine and making characters look worse make me not want to play it even more.

It's a shame really because I love Doa5 and out of all the fighting games I've played (which is a lot) it's probably my favorite

It used to, DoA4 was the peak of the series - because of many newcomers to the series claimed it's "too hard" (game didn't even have easy mode, only normal and hard) they decided to streamline and casualise the gameplay of DoA5 so much that it became a different game.
Not to mention the shitty framerate, ugly bloom graphics when the game was released compared to 4.
I played the beta of 6 and honestly it's the same problems as 5 except now the framerate has been corrected - however the gameplay has been even more casualised with the cinematic "press a button and something awesome has to happen" attacks.
Not to mention that before you had to rely on strict timing of the hold-counterhold system which now is meaningless as you have nearly always the super bar filled up which can be used to counter EVERY attack in the game without you even knowing the timing or direction of the attack.
Also 6 is the most expensive game in the series (160$ for "full package" at launch) YET it has the least gameplay content as well as less characters compared to 5LR.

if you REALLY want to counter someone then high Hold should work most of the time since most neutral strings are High hits
Overall though, don't rely on Holds because if your opponent sees you spamming them then you're gonna start eating Counter Throws and the match will be over QUICK

5 was weird and I REALLY felt Itagaki's absence.
It felt like Team Ninja doesn't know how to write the characters and I hated how male characters became more and more unimportant. Gameplay-wise it was pretty solid but I think I wasn't a fan of the power blows.
