Is it even worth learning?

Yeah, it's a lot of fun and way easier to start with than their other games. You can ignore a lot of the depth and just play it like Civ if you want.

thousands of hours of fun if you do

Start by playing France or someone at the start. Most Mechanics will make sense once you've played with them a little while. The only piece of advice I can give you is to never, ever be behind on military technology -- the other two technology groups don't matter. But never, ever be behind on miltech.

This
Unless you are a god at EUIV miltech is essential

you can learn to play this game in 20 minutes
it really isnt fucking hard

It doesn't take long to learn so yeah i guess

For people into the paradox, is Imperator Rome shaping up to be good? I want to learn EU4 then possible get into that when it drops.

I'd say that a god of EU IV is a god because they understand the importance of miltech. Watching Florry literally 3v1 Italy at than LAN party as Florence was astounding.

No because paradox games take years of dlc to get good.

Too early to say. Most Paradox games actually aren't great a launch. It usually takes a few more years of dev to give them the staggering amount of autism that appeals to people. Imperator just looks like a janky mess of EU IV and CKII. The goal is to get bigger, but you have to deal with a lot of character bullshit.
