Just picked this up. What difficulty options are good to start with? Definetly gonna start with harder monsters, but was also considering putting reduced exp from wealer monsters on. Would this combination make the game unreasonably annoying/unforgiving at parts? How much would reduced exp from grinding affect a run?

Dq 11 thread, feel free to talk about switch port aswell.

I had both and I am right up to before the true final boss (that's not a spoiler it's a jrpg)
I could not have imagined anyone playing without harder monsters. The game would be way too easy. Some bosses with harder monsters seems like you have to get lucky with RNG and hope the boss doesnt do a certain combo of moves before you're ready with a set up.
Dont play without harder monsters, no exp from weak enemies, and I also had no fleeing.

Just play with stronger monsters. Reduced exp from weaker monsters is only a minor inconvenience because you can't use Electro Light to gain levels quickly. Dragon Quest XI has visible encounters so if you want to stay low level you just avoid fights. Gold issues is solved by using the forge system to make roughly 70% of your gear.

You can try using every Draconican setting except stronger monsters for an interesting experience. It's still easier than just using stronger monsters but it's nice if you want a challenge but still rush through the game.

About to start the third act. Is there anything I should do before it? It seems like a point of no return thing.

Yea from what i heard people were saying the game gets really easy at some points without harder monsters. The main worry i have with lowered exp is that it might put me in a bad spot vs some of the 'super strong' enemies if it gimps my exp along the way.

Does no fleeing have much of an impact on the gameplay? Also what is the point of shypox, all i read about it was that it randomly stuns you and makes it harder to talk to npcs.

Just play in whatever mode you have more fun in. It's a jrpg, no one cares about your "skillz", play a fighting game for that. Do you enjoy grinding and relying on rng? then play on hard. Do you enjoy going through the story and breaking the game with cool shit (halellujah + electro light) and becoming insanely OP? Then play with default settings.

Just don't be one of those retards who bitches the game is "boring" and too long, it's the best JRPG of last year.

Nothing is missable in the whole game unless you want the "number defeated" for certain monsters in the bestiary to read a certain value. (The bestiary is completable at any time.) You need (i think) 61 skill seeds across the whole game if you want to fill out everyone's skill grid (which is NOT needed for plat), but even those you can farm for in act 3 if you want.

The reduced exp from weaker monsters is very generous with its level range once you get out of the earlygame. I never really had to play around it, and I used tougher monsters too. It'll prevent extreme overleveling but shouldn't get in the way of normal play. Grab it if you're afraid of accidentally overleveling from metal slimes I guess.
I wouldn't bother with no fleeing. Against tough monsters it's so dangerous to attempt to flee that it's a safer bet to make a stand anyway. All it'll do is make ocean travel even more annoying.

Shypox is honestly just good for a few chuckles and acts as a minor annoyance for some fights or very frustrating on others. It also kinda gives the rather bland protag some character.

Doesn't the holy water/holy protection effect work in the ocean? I just realized I don't really know what it does in the other 97% of the game, since weaker monsters run away anyway.

>"true final boss"
>"Hurr it's not a spoiler it's a JRPG durr"
It's a spoiler. Fuck you. Thanks for ruining it.

waiting patiently for the switch port so i can sit comfy in bed and play in handheld mode like a good boy

Is it strange that I want to buy it again just for the Jap dub?

Fuck this game is long. I picked it up on release and played through without rushing or anything, but got burnt out around the end of act 1. Took a break for a bit and I've been loving playing act 2 recently.

I have over 150hrs and tomorrow will be my last day playing it, and there's still more i could do if i wanted to. I played slow though, I saw somebody on gamefaqs who got all ingame achievements in under 130hr (which involves playing five card draw until you get a royal flush, among other things)

Not really. I will buy it again on Switch for ''SNES graphics'' (but probably not on day 1).

Are you about to be beat the game? I'm around the 70 hour mark going into act 3.

I totally forgot about the snes graphics thing the switch is getting. But I don't think that I'd use it because I think the game looks great.

Will the PS4 version get a orchestral download for the music?

Yeah I'm about to beat it and get the plat, with all quests and full bestiary. I did a lot of postgame things inefficiently just because I either didn't want to look stuff up or I felt like stretching it out, and I think you're about 10 hours faster to get to act 3 than I was, so it's not like you have half the content left or anything.

If it hasn't already it's probably never going to get it.

re-release with additional marriage options and new party members when?

Attached: toot.png (1920x1080, 3.42M)

I don't know how to explain this, user. As weird as it may sound, there is something about this... SNES graphics, japanese voice acting, orchestra soundtrack - all in one.
I already saw the best version (PC), and Switch version looks kinda ''blurry'', but maybe that's just my impression after watching Direct. So, SNES all the way!

What other party members could join? The only one I can think of is that buff dude in Octagonia.

Krystalinda

I'm assuming that the snes mode won't be voiced otherwise I'd be more inclined to use it
