Super Star Ultra

None of them.

Most are fine but I wouldn't recommend Dream Land 3 because you'll probably set your standard for puzzles too high for what's in the rest of the series

Cope brainlet.

Anyways,

But only brainlets play Kirby games.

Star Hearts were a fucking slog and more than half of them were poorly designed. The best part of Dreamland 3 is the music and artstyle.

fpbp

The first one. Then play the rest in release order, except skip Adventure because its the only bad one and has a way better GBA remake you should play instead.

SuperStar Ultra. Always.

when am I gonna get a knuckle Joe spin off?

solely out of curiosity, why ultra instead of stock standard superstar?

i don't know what else ultra adds other then enhanced graphics.

New bosses, new gamemodes, post-game content, enchanced graphics and music and new sub-games.

It's the same game, but better, and with a ton more shit.

What is this from?
Anyway, OP I started with Kirby's Adventure but then I plan to go SSUltra.
SSUltra has a remake of the very original so it seems like a good place to start.

Kirby is trash
If you want to play a game with no challenge, you may as well play a visual novel
literally mario games are harder

>Tfw no Kirby game will ever utilise the combo mechanic like 64

The only reason to play the original is if you're looking for multiplayer or if you're a purist. KSSU pretty much improves everything.

Redpill me, is the whole Kirby story actually something interesting or is it non-existent?
I've seen it like hyped up by people on the net.

It's based and redpilled

So it actually exists and it's actually decent?

I don't know lmao, but the games are all fun and worth playing

That's old.

wrong. SNES Super Star is better.

Ah okay.
Is there one with Star Allies?

Not Star Allies, that's for sure

Don’t play kirby for the story

Most games have a surprisingly cool secret final boss if you 100% everything, and that final boss usually has a surprising amount of cool lore behind it. Basically everything else is a bunch of goofy colored balls with funny faces messing around in a candy glitter world.

Superstar has more plot than the other games but it’s still not what you really play the game for.

Everyone likes the secret cool superbosses but they are really a very small part of most games, and their presence is vastly overstated by the fandom.

Oh and if you go with superstar you don’t need to finish the cave mode to fight any superbosses, that collection stuff is just there if you like exploring and finding all the goodies. You can fight the superbosses by just clearing modes normally in superstar.

Kirby's stories are generally on the simpler side and most games are their own individual stories. That being said they have been building a good amount of lore and foreshading via the pause menu as those give descriptions on the boss and what's happening if you pause during a boss, it can be quite interesting in my opinion. As a side note Dream Land 2, 3 and Kirby 64 are all directly connected plot-wise.

>Is there one with Star Allies?
As far as I know no, I got super lazy and haven't updated it still. Return to Dream Land would direct to Star Allies I feel as gameplay-wise it's a 4-player game so the level design has that in mind, maybe Kirby 64 also could connect as they have mixing abilities back but they don't go far with it.

>gameplay-wise it's a 4-player game so the level design has that in mind
Return to Dream Land had 4-player and didn't sacrifice level design for it

It's not super good, but it's suprisingly dark and deep for a cutesy children's game that can be enjoyed and completed without reading any lore at all.

The new director, Kumazaki, aknowledges this and embraces it, so every game since Triple Deluxe has been getting more and more snippets of lore with disturbing implications.

Personally, I started with Amazing Mirror. In my opinion, it is by far the best game of the franchise. But SuperStar Ultra is the best when it comes to getting the "Kirby" feel.

It did but to a lesser extent, it sure as hell connects better than going from Robobot to it I feel anyways.

Star allies should probably be the last kirby you play, besides spinoffs.

Also just gonna say dreamland 1 and 2 are underrated, especially 1 since it has a surprisingly tough hard mode. Wish the other games would do that. Dreamland 3 is overrated just cause it’s really pretty

Ah okay,
Well knowing me I'll probably forget to pause and most likely won't 100% everything, is there a site dedicated to Kirby Lore?
Ah okay.
And yeah I heard about the Dark Matter Trilogy, sounds interesting to me.

On the surface level, Kirby stories tend to be run-of-the-mill cute protagonist saves his planet from evil beings. Nothing too special or overly threatening and plenty of fun platforming, action, and the occasional gimmick in a game. Still, even early Kirby games had plenty of foreshadowing, twists, and surprisingly fucked up secret unlockable bosses. The last 10 years or so of Kirby have upped the ante considerably with even heavier foreshadowing, lore, hints, endings, character histories and some straight up disturbing shit and implications. Obviously none of this is at the forefront because it still has to be a kid-friendly series but anyone who delves into the games can easily see some fucked up things happening in the background. We're talking internal corruption, memory loss, possession, backstabs, attempted genocide, implied past genocides, eldritch terrors, you name it.

Long story short, none of it is necessary but for longtime Kirby fans it's fucking fascinating and is one of the big reasons to keep coming back to the next game. The other being these games generally kick ass.

Yeah I was hearing about how the Kirby Lore was pretty interesting so it got me interested, decided to play Kirby's Adventure since I have it on the Switch and I am really impressed by the gameplay, I'll deff beat it and I plan to check out the other ones.

I know this is bait, but
>way better GBA remake
Seriously, WTF is wrong with you?

I’m sure you can find a wiki easily but I recommend experiencing the games for yourself first, most of them emulate really easily.

Lore on pause screens is a newer thing, in the old games it just has a funny little quip about your current power. 100%ing is quite easy, except a few minigames in dreamland 3.

Superstar ultra has been so recommended because it’s a strong stand alone package and is one of the best games. If you want to play more after that I think the best order is just to start from dreamland 1 and play the rest of the mainline games in order.

You can skip the wii one honestly it was pretty weak compared to the others.

Would this be useful?

It's split to 5 pages for every few gens.
Obviously I don't plan to read them until I've played them, but for then is it good?
And nah I think I'll play the Wii one, I tend to enjoy even weaker Nintendo Games.

If that's where you've started already, then good luck on your journey. I recommend release order generally, though you should probably play the Dark Matter trilogy one after the other to get the full effect. Otherwise have fun on your journey and enjoy finding your favorite copy ability.

>skipping any main title
I will end you.

Thanks kirby fren
So far I really like the Fire ability.
Anyway I plan to do SSU after this cause of Dreamland 1's remake and cause everyone recommends it (I mainly started with KA cause it was free and on my switch), then I'll do the Dark matter trilogy.

Sounds like a plan, just keep in mind that Super Star's abilities have fighting game-tier movesets with directional inputs and grabs and shit. It's super fun but the main series goes back to how Adventure does them for a long while. Amazing Mirror and Squeak Squad sort of bring it back but it didn't truly return until the Wii game. That was a special, special day for me. Jet is best ability.

Eh, it doesn’t have anything wrong in it but those are basically just summaries of the main plots. You’d know everything they say just from finishing each game, and they don’t seem to go into any of the hidden background stuff which is where most of the lore is.

Aw that's disappointing about SS, but I'm glad they brought it back as KA is really fun.
Damnit, finding the lore online is gonna be hard.

Adventure is a totally fine game to start with and is one of my favorites despite and because of its stylish simplicity.

You can actually appreciate superstar more playing it after a normal kirby game cause you’ll realize just how much its introducing to the series gameplay-wise.

Haven’t seen them myself and honestly haven’t played through the last couple games, but the youtube channel WoolieVersus has a kirby lore playlist that I’m pretty sure is all accurate. Other anons can weigh in cause they might know better than I do.

I’ll tell you the only background lore detail I think you’re likely to miss since a lot of people had to have it pointed out to them. Spoilertagged for if you don’t want to look. If you don’t want to peek now you can save this post number and look it up on one of the Yea Forums archives once you finish Kirby 64. Shiver Star in Kirby 64 is actually Earth, as evidenced by the continents being the same and by having a moon identical to ours

It’s obvious once you see it but lots of anons went years without noticing.

Besides the coop partners what did RtDL do that Squeak Squad didn’t? I always thought of squeak squad as the one that brought back superstar gameplay.

Yeah I saw that Spoiler.
And yeah I was considering checking out Woolie, he's posted that image the Yea Forums user posted up above so he seems to be pretty serious with Kirby and the Lore.
Thanks user.

>Besides the coop partners what did RtDL do that Squeak Squad didn’t?
It had actual memorable levels, more than one outstanding tune, decent level design, post-game content and non-shit minigames, and in general most things about it were pretty great at the time. It's been surpassed since then but it was still a fantastic game. Come on man, everyone knows Squeak Squad was the poster child for "meh" Kirby game up until Star Allies came out. Even then SA got redeemed with its updates so it has its own legs to stand on now.

>I always thought of squeak squad as the one that brought back superstar gameplay.
Not even close, dude. Yeah, there were a few abilities here and there like Fighter and Magic with multiple moves but the majority of them were still press the button, one thing happens and that's it. Copy ability scrolls were a decent idea for the classic style of copy abilitiy but SS-style renders them moot. RtDL brought back inputs, charge attacks, grabbing mechanics, shielding and basically made it so you can do multiple things with any one given ability. Fire, Ice, and Cutter all in Squeak Squad only let you do the one thing. There's plenty of ways to attack with those same abilities in RtDL.

>majority of them were still press the button, one thing happens and that's it.
I haven’t played it in years and misremembered all attacks being multiinputs. Guess those were the ones that stood out to me, I remember liking magic and animal a lot.

And ghost, even if it wasn’t a multimove.

Magic and Animal were great concepts, I wish they could come back
>Ghost
I want it back so FUCKING bad but how would they implement it?
