Up to and including the first half of season 4 are an acceptable run of "old Walking Dead," but the first half of season 2 can be a grind and season 3 had some questionable writing. From then on is really hit or miss. 4B has multiple different perspectives that eventually culiminate, and some of them aren't very good. The season 4 finale and season 5 premier were the highest ratings in the show's history for good reason. The next few episodes of season 5 after that are pretty good, the middle of season 5 sucks, but it ends pretty good. 6A sucks, but it starts to pick up near the end and in 6B. The season 6 finale and season 7 premier, in a vacuum, without having to wait a whole summer, was the last hurrah for the show. The rest of season 7 goes off a cliff, and season 8 is absolutely horrid except for Simon (Trevor from GTA5) who really steps from a background character to compelling supporting cast. Season 9 is better than season 8, but it's really starting to slow down again with a new group no one really likes.
It's a really hard pill to swallow when you're talking about 126 hour+ long episodes of content there. I say give it a shot and see how long you can last between those high points. Negan in Tekken is bittersweet because it's an unapologetic time capsule of the last time anyone really cared about The Walking Dead, right down to the forest clearing stage. Nothing ever came close to the hype, speculation, Comic Con displays, trailer, and big premier.
