you won't fully understand it until you play it. It's like if Tommy Wiseau directed Twin Peaks
It has some genuinely good ideas and even does some of them well, but is comically bad in it's execution of a lot of things. The line gets blurry in a weird way in the middle, like are you laughing because the character's quirks in animation are so cartoonishly over the top or are you laughing because they're bad?
In the end, I found myself loving Swery and hoping he would get better games in the future. Characters like Francis York Morgan stuck with me all these years later as a great main character, but he could definitely stand to make gameplay a lot better next time.
it's the kind of game that you see maybe once a decade if you're lucky
It's a really memorable experience despite the gameplay being completely dogshit
It's genuinely a bad game. Don't let others tell you it's good because it isn't.
The music, characters and setting is enjoyable and seeing York talking about movie facts with Zack is always fun but everything else is simply horrible to the point it's not worth playing, especially on PC.
Just watch a let's play/walkthrough/longplay on Youtube.
I'm not sure the comparison is between The Room and DP is entirely accurate. I don't think The Room was supposed to be tongue in cheek and Wiseau only embraced the meme after the movie gained popularity. I think Deadly P was self aware from the beginning.
Yes but the PS3 version has weird graphic 'improvements' and no difficulty setting. It plays best on 360/xbone. PC version is a mess.
Great atmosphere, terrible game
It’s of very very questionable quality.
I don't regret playing it. I very much loved the characters, as well as the music. I wouldn't necessarily call it a good game, but a good experience for sure.
The Japanese PS3 version has English audio and it completely playable that way.
if you're not drawn in by the charm there's little else on offer here
I thought it was pretty amazing it's just a shame it looked like a N64 game most of the time. I would love to see a big budget follow up in the same style with an open world that feels somewhat real in scope mixed with the crazy shit. That's not going to happen in this timeline but oh well.
It's great, aside from the shitty framerate and unhelpful map.
couldve been a great game if not for its shitty controls
Meme garbage that Yea Forums contrarians pretend are good to fit in & make their pathetic lives have meaning by hoping their taste in games will be validated by the scum of the internet known as Yea Forums
The fucking intro gets me every time
It's one of those things where people like it purely for how weird and different it is. If you like David Lynch you'll like DP.
Despite all it's flaws it's one of my favorite games of last gen. I won't lie and say the gameplay is good though.
Deadly Premonition is the epitome of "so bad it's good" gaming.
And then it surprises you by having an ending that actually just good.
It's like a good but incredibly cobbled together and unpolished game. I wouldn't really classify it as so bad it's good because a lot of things are legitimately enjoyable about Deadly Premonition, and most of the bad parts of the game are just unenjoyable, like bad framerates, memory leaks on the PC version, and the rest of it's technical issues. The facial rigging and the character animations are pretty goofy, though.
Here's hoping The Good Life is a nice follow up.
It's better than the Yakuza series imo. Basically, it's the best Shenmue-like out there (not as good as Shenmue though).
