I wish they still added content
fuck jimmy and fuck jersey
Aren't there a ton of mods for the game?
none of them are worth anything
Waiting for the new update to start over.
i haven't been able to make any progress on expert mode
Chad's Furniture and more is pretty good
what about calamity
:^)
It can be very fucking challenging especially if you challenge Eye of Cthulhu first but if you're making slow progress and exploring you'll eventually make some progress
I play with some friends in a server every so often.
Hard mode is really brutal having to share resources among like 4-5 people.
More than artifact
i like it but i'm on hiatus
Games like this and minecraft always spiral into an anxiety inducing nightmare for me when I can no longer keep everything neat and tidy while making progress.
King slime is harder than Eye or Brain
I am currently playing with 2 people and I have been having a blast after not liking it the first time I played it
just make a rope 30 tiles up and he literally can't damage you anymore
>second time playing terraria, first time I really got into it though.
>haven't beaten Eye of Cthulhu yet
>kill a random green slime
>get a Slime Staff
>"aw cool I got a little slime friend to fight with"
>mfw I find out this is the rarest drop in entire game with a 1/10000 chance
Holy fuck.
I started a new game with a bunch of mods including the overhaul one but got bored and haven't touched it in a couple months. Maybe I'll go back once I'm bored of dwarf fortress
Dont worry alot people still are
Everythings fine OP
Damn thats epic my man, freaking sweet if you ask me. Lol.
I felt very alone, but after this thread, I know
>first time playing terraria
>patch 1.3 just came out
>find a skeleton vendor in the caverns
>he sells a pet that makes ore and chests glow
My first world was easy mode.
>lose world
>lose all motivation until next patch
Also Calamity sucks.
it drops pretty common from pinky
Just beat the Moonlord for the first time, after years of chipping away at it. I was too prepared for it and it's a pushover now. Is there interesting stuff to do after it? Aside from the pig shark and the pumpkin events.
It's grindy as fuck if you do it solo you can cheese early game by making a bunch of small worlds and getting lucky.
I still play it here and there
I believe there is a new content update coming up. Probably to make up for other worlds cancellation
>best way to stop the spread of corruption is by blowing everything up
What did they mean by this?
Here's an interesting, albeit slow tip for expert... Beat the normal mode first, and carry your character and weapons over. As thing get tough return to the normal world, loot it and carry the best weapons and stuff. Then grind the pirate maps because they give so much money and you need the money for reforging cause the eclipse's moths will destroy you.
Never played Terraria with mods, what are some good ones?
Damn that sucks, take a break from the game and wait a little if you ever want to go back to it
I was thinking of starting it up again, actually.
Fire/Frost Burn Arrows are the best fucking shit early expert mode. Then once you get something with decent knock back you are pretty much set. Though you have to stack a lot of movement options for the bosses, and that can be kind of a bother to get going.
I had fun with Thorium and Battle Rods. Its pretty exciting to get an item you have never seen before and taking it to the guide for the first time again.
Dye Hard
I'm totally starting a new world when the Switch version comes out, exclusively to play on the crapper.
That's like playing through a game on easy mode then carrying your max level characters over to hard on NG+
it's not the same as actually playing on hard from start to finish.
It's not "like" that, it's exactly that. Otherwise it's too grindy. Besides, having two worlds is fun.
WHEN THE FUCK IS 1.3.6
IT'S ALMOST BEEN 2 YEARS SINCE THEY ANNOUNCED IT AND WE HAVE GOTTEN NO RELEASE WINDOW AT ALL
>it's too grindy.
You can craft fire arrows with surface grade materials. Or buy the torches/arrows from the merchant as soon as he is available. Not a whole lot of grind there. Not to mention the drop rates are doubled anyway, so if anything Expert mode is LESS grind. Just because enemies pose a threat doesn't make it that much more of a grind than normal mode.
It really bothers me that they keep leaking all these neat features but can't be bothered to patch in a single one. Throw us SOME fucking bone here!
Reminder the fag who made Calamity mod is an autistic furgin. Vanilla and some quality of life mods are how you should play Terraria only.
Magic Storage is THE shit.
post more dryad
moar
once a year or 2 it's pretty fun when there is downtime on game releases.
You could try the crystal defense event but Moon lord drops trivialize everything
Based and vanilla pilled
based and grasspilled, but i still love thorium
Playing the Dragon Ball mod, didn't realize how fun it was to move at high speeds in any direction while firing blasts. It's still early in development so it's not as fleshed out as it could/will be, but I'd try it if you have any interest.
>playing with friend
>i got prodigy gene, he got legendary gene but he didnt fucking check until we both got ss2
>cleaned house on damn near everything
>turned on charge toggle because the grip i needed was fucking shit with default press charge
>kill moon lord on expert over and over with the help of a super spirit bomb charge for over a minute and then thrown
Yeah super spirit bomb is broken as fuck (likely intentionally for now). We combined it with calamity and ran into no issues till post moonman and then suddenly JESUS.
Though when I solo fought Plantera in a small arena I think it was the most adreneline in my body at any one time. The fast paced flight movement is fuckin great.
Me. I'm currently playing a new game on Expert with the Thorium mod.
Can't seem to beat the Fallen Champion though, he packs way too much damage.
>calamity
other worlds looked like shit anyways
hope 2 will be good
Hey speaking of comfy is stardew valley any good? Thinking about buying.
its alright but there are no good bachelors and the progress slows down and ends kinda abruptly
comfy music and amateur feel makes it very cozy to sit down and play when you're alone
>try playing splitscreen on the console version
>framerate shits itself so bad the game just fucking crashes
damn
Yeah, one of the few games I enjoy restarting and beating again. Just made a new world a few weeks back for the first time in a few years.
Calamity's a mess, it was mostly just us wondering if we could do it on their harder difficulty modes. The next DB mod update promises to add a lot so I'll prolly get an actual set up then.
what are some good mods?
>That feeling of killing the moonlord for the first time
I love this game so much
>tfw dooing it in co-op
I wish games could go on forever :(
only by playing it do you have more grounds to truly call it shit than i do by merely shying away from it on heresay, so good on you.
starbound porn is better
installed overhaul mod and having a blast since last week. i don't think i can get back to that shitty vanilla controls
yeah whatever you're probably fat
ya got me
>Dragon Ball mod
This looks fun
The new content update is coming up for like a year already. The devs are slow as fuck.
i would say they are working pretty fast considering they said they were done with the game years ago
Even beyond my clincal addiction to all things Dragon Ball, flying at high speeds (you go faster at higher forms too) and firing off beams scratches some itch in my brain. Vanilla terraria has infinitie flying mounts, but the flying in this is so smooth and controls really well, I love it.
Is calamity really that bad?
I haven't done enough of the actual content to say whether it's actually bad or not, but it's a fucking LOT. Seems to me a lot of it is largely missable too, which is odd considering how many different boss resources it takes to make some of the shit.
Apache helicopter was unbalanced as fuck, but really fun to play
Look up its wiki, go to the page for any boss, and scroll down to the autistic "Lore" or "Quotes" section.
yeah
the way it could hold 2 people was busted too
essentially 1 drop for 2 people
youtube.com
calamitymod.gamepedia.com
it fucks with the vanilla balancing and the sprite work clashes with the rest of the game; Thorium is better honestly.
You decide
youtube.com
why has nobody made an apache mod yet?
Why would you make a mod for something that's in the base game?
to update the textures since its such an old item and it looks kinda bad compared to some of the newer items
It's already in the game, it was in bundle with Abrams tank
Okay seriously I’m almost done with the game now.
What are some games that have a similar progression to them? Like you start out weak as fuck and through either random drops or crafting each piece of equipment you find or craft gets you a little bit stronger. Emphasis on much of the items and weapons being unique from each other and having unique looks/effects.
no other games like it
Monster Hunter is similar in progression, but without the weapon upgrades being unique. They might look unique, but they don't function differently. Still pretty fun though
This one's the best because you can listen to him get angrier and angrier
youtube.com
Played a fuck ton of terraria before the whole mod shtick
Redpill me on the Calamity mod i keep seeing every now and then
>Decide to give it a go
>Having fun
>Friend tells me to play with him
>We start fresh, he hogs most of the shit and then ask me why I'm behind
>Another friend notice were playing
>He steamrolls the entire game
>mod boss music has lyrics
Do you like bosses with a billion health and will one shot you?
Played for the first time like two nights ago for ten minutes. Didn’t really know what I was doing but would like to get into the game.
Any tips for a complete beginner who doesn’t know jack shit about the game’s basic mechanics?
this is your best bet for the basics
terraria.gamepedia.com/Guide:Getting_started
Play the game with the wiki open, talk to the guide for info. You can ask him for recipes if you show him an item, that's always helpful. Make houses for your NPCs, try to keep spares so new NPCs can arrive. Explore the surface of your world for chests, you can usually find things that will help you start. Explore caves, don't dig straight down like an idiot. Try to make a grappling hook ASAP, it speeds up gameplay tremendously.
Shortswords are trash
Remember the guide can give you advice on what to do and what crafting stations an item needs
romancing when
>artist only uploads to instagram
and I thought jap artists only uploading to twitter was annoying
ignore this guy digging straight down is one of the best ways to find caves, making a hellevator (straight tunnel to the bottom of the world) is one of the most important things to do. Although it would be good to get something for the fall first like a grappling hook or a double jump item.
>digging straight down is one of the best ways to find caves
It's also the fastest way to drop the game out of boredom if you're playing for the first time.
>making a hellevator (straight tunnel to the bottom of the world) is one of the most important things to do
See above. You also don't really need a hellevator until you're going to fight the wall of flesh and even then it's not mandatory.
Yeah but without the hellevator you have to go through the caves, and after that you still need to farm for the guide voodoo doll, and after that if you lose you need to start over again, not to mention it gives you the ability to pump water to make obsidian to walk on.
SOMEONE MAKE A SERVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER MAKE IT NEW CHARACTERS ONLYYYYYYYYYYYY
youtu.be
Just download it. its really fucking good.
Just for the abyssal biome alone
Yeah it is convenient, but I always treat it as an optional thing. If I do it I usually wait until hardmode so I can do it with a good pickaxe.
So when you have the eye thing how do you summon him?
Whole buncha digging for a whole buncha nothing to do. Even building in this shit is boring because it's 2D.
It has garbage balance and the music is done by a furfag
nah ur gay
ur mom's gay
>tfw too autistic and focused on optimization to make a nice looking house
>the most variation I ever end up with is stone background instead of wood because I dont want to farm more trees for more commie blocks
I'm at Moon Lord and I'm probably going to drop it because the bosses have gotten stupid fucking bullshit.
The DM Dokuro soundtrack is worth the price of admission though, holy FUCK
the key to a good yet nice house is to make it all stem out from a central forge where all your crafting stuff is, and then making the rooms and etc all stemming from it so you can easily get to them, I usually build a hellevator right in the middle too
>Play video
>Woman starts talking
>Close video
Miss me with that cringy shit.
to be quite frank famalam
I fucking hate that too (like why is Calamitas fucking British?) and I edited a copy to remove that part for when I listen to it
just skip to 15 seconds in
for me
>not using based planked stone or stone slab walls
>placeholder theme is better than the final product
youtube.com
fuck calamity btw
this is the furthest I've gotten away from just making a giant wooden commie grid
Waiting for switch port
stone slab mixed with grey brick walls is peak
>not putting the platforms going upstairs in the middle
literally why
I use stone slab for above ground, planked stone for my underground treasure room, and then red dungeon bricks so fucking clowns can't destroy the place
and then the entire thing is on a floating obsidian island hovering over a pit with a sliver of lava in it
1.4 when? I'm so hyped but it sure is taking its sweet time. I'm sure it'll be worth it, if it's anything close to 1.3, but damn if the wait isn't painful all the same.
>feel like starting another run
>devs announce that big update is around the corner
EVERY TIME
I did it just for you user, I thought it was kind of generic and didn't really do much for me but it's not bad for a fan effort.
I'm not great at building myself, but when I was a kid I used to build LEGO sets using the picture on the box first to see if I could replicate it. So I have fun finding a picture of buildings and trying to recreate it as perfectly as possible. It's pretty enjoyable for me.
they actually commissioned pretty much all of the soundtrack from DM Dokuro
>Suicide run and destroy 2 orbs
>Wait for meteorite
>Mine with bombs
>Make space armor and laser gun
ggez
>redpill
ok.
>main creator hates anyone who plays his mod with a passion to the point where he stopped doing patch notes.
>hates vanilla to the point where basic game mechanics/strats are result in insta kills (talking to the nurse when a boss is spawned will drop a meteor insta-killing you and the nurse)
>hates mods to where he deliberately halves the amount of damage any item from any other mod does, despite his mod being publicly known to be powercreep hell. very little variety with Calamity installed.
>calamity is only popular because he abused how the modloader works, it's the top because it has the most downloads
>an update can count as a download, as a result he abused it by pushing out micro updates so people updated, inflating the download count
>around the time of october he literally had discord shills invade the /vg/ general shitting it up with calamity shilling and thorium bashing. I think there was floods of porn at some point too
The entire mod is a circlejerk
>not even the creator can beat half the bosses
>he adds cheat items that only work if your character name is his name and you beat a boss on omega meme mode and win on exclusively the 3rd attempt
>any time the mod does something that's honestly pretty alright the same update includes twice the amount of things that shit it up even more
>mod is filled with self inserts of mostly the main creator but also his circlejerk discord friends.
It's a clown fiesta of drama.
moving onto the mod itself it just doesn't feel like Terraria anymore.
>so many cheat items
>powercreep to hell resulting in mod content being the only content worth doing
>very little replayability
>forced fanfic tier lore with boss dialogue written by what can only be an edgy 14 year old
>no fucking pacing.
>schizophrenic is the most fitting word for everything surrounding calamity.
It's just not a good mod. you gotta give credit to the effort, particularly the spriters. With some better direction it'd not be so shit.
So thorium really is the only good content mod for the game
I keep thinking today will be the day I start a new terraria world and enjoy all the new updates from the past few years, but in the end I never go through with it. I mean it's probably because I have hundreds upon hundreds of hours on it but I do really love the game and there's no reason why I wouldn't enjoy all the new shit but it is what it is. Autism I guess
What are some small, qol mods i should try? I don't mind if they somewhat make the game easier.
pretty much dude.
every other seemingly good large scale content mod gets ditched after a couple months like BtFA and Antiaris
Magic storage (breaks multiplayer)
Expeditions
MaxStackPlus
Where's My Items (if no Magic Storage)
Dye Easy
Auto Trash
Yet Another Boss Health Bar
Begone, Evil
>>not even the creator can beat half the bosses
Believable as it sounds, I'd love a source.
I do not like the mods in this game because they either turn you into a super saiyan with ridiculous looking guns and swords or its something as insignificant as a single NPC being added
Not a concrete source by any means but think about under what other scenario something like this would exist in the first place.
calamitymod.gamepedia.com
>calameme
pastebin.com
Youve got some shit friends
It will obviously take a while, go for it
1.4 will probably come in 5 years at this rate considering how much of a lazy fuck the devs are
Yeah, that's pretty fair. Fitting icon since it gave me cancer.
Minecraft is better
Out of curiosity, what would be the one thing to say in their discord that would guarantee cause some shit flinging?
Some anons from /tg/ made a few mods worth checking out
ItemMagnetPlus
AssortedCrazyThings, Ammobox+
step it up f am
No idea, a lot of ideas but none that are guaranteed shitfight material.
they seem to have a hateboner for Thorium, I'd say ask about other good mods to play with Calamity and if that doesn't start some sparks ask how/why Calamity is better than Thorium.
asking about fabsol like if he's gay or not that his self insert is a lesbian woman could start some shit.
I dunno, a lot of stuff would get to them but most would result in an instant ban.
that server is the safest hugbox you've ever seen.
I wonder if that guy with 10000 characters is still playing
YO SO WHO'S SETTING UP THE SERVER COME ON IT'S FRIDAY NIGHT IN AUSTRALIA
Here's your answer
youtu.be
It's even worse than you imagine.
Played it for 200 hours last year, don't see myself ever returning unless someone wants to co-op it with me.
Use fire/frostburn arrows with the best bow you can make.
Rush gold/ice chests for Ice blades, enchanted boomerangs, snowball cannons or any weapon.
Crafting the amazon in the jungle is easy and useful and can be used to defeat skeletron
Don't toss it in a chest and forget about it later on when it can't kill anything, you can set up a little safe spot and equip Lucky Coin for a relatively quick afk money farm.
All I know about it is that the final boss is just Girl Fire Rock Sans Undertale.
That tends to happen when you have children. You slow down.
Guranteed to be a bunch of animal fucking furniggers just like Calamity creator so say furries need to be hanged or something should cause some rustled jimmies.
I'm sure he still is.
Late reply and everything, but to be fair they already added tons, especially end game content. Adding more content would me more grind and I think it already has enough, particularly if you're running it solo. I have to for the most part because all my original terraria bros quit a long time ago. Yeah you can cheese some bosses and a lot of resources can be acquired quite easily, but I still think the grind is pretty massive.
Cause thorium doesn't really mess much with progression, where as calamity just completely fucks with all semblance of balance
