I actually beat this game on normal difficulty but they lock the last level behind the hard difficulty. I was pretty pissed because it isn't easy to get that far in the game. The rings are even more bullshit on hard and I never completed it.

I associate Super Mario World heavily with the mid-2000's.

Around that time I was really getting into romhacks and those early Youtube animated parody mario videos. It's very nostalgic, almost dreamlike in the feelings it evokes. A little melancholy, too. SMW itself is already a very airy, abstract game which only intensifies these feelings. If you wanted to get really avant garde you could say it represents the crossing over from childhood into adolescence, spurred on by the advent of modern technology. It's something highly exploratory, while still contrasting with that innocent sense of youth.

It's something not quite stuck in the past, but not carried into the future either. Something experimental, not only based on how many munchers you can fit on screen, but culturally as well. Kaizo will always be a tiny, highly evocative window into this time period for me.

NCS LPs used to be so comfy. Plants vs Zombies, Super Mario Galaxy 2, his Zelda LPs, it was just so comfy to watch.
Chugga makes some really good and well produced videos, but they're personally not for me. Whenever he talks about the game in depth, I just get bored and think that I'd rather just look for a wiki if I was interested. That's just me though, I know plenty of people like his style of videos.

Super Metroid was always a favourite of mine for some reason, PvZ was real good too. I just end up losing interest in Chugga's LPs in recent years, so pretty much what you said.

Emile went from my least favorite to my favorite over time, I'd say around 3D World. If I had to guess, having someone to talk to outside of conventions made him a lot better at talking to people. Doesn't mean I dislike Jon or Tim, I just like Emile more. I'm not going to force you to watch anything, but if you ever wanted to get back into TRG I'd recommend watching compilations to see if you would still like it.

Removing the spin jump takes away the only unique thing about super mario world besides the cape and aesthetic.

I still watch TRG, I was mostly talking about solo stuff. The yearly TRG streams are fucking art.

I understand why they all live apart but part of me wishes Jon, Emile, Tim, and Masae lived in the same city so we could get TRG streams more than once a fuckin year. Every single stream is a blast, each one with a special moment to remember. Be it Daisy on Hard, Emile getting chased around his house, or Tim cucking Jon in Mario Party, it's always fun to watch.

The infrequency probably helps them be so memorable to an extent, everything not being so orderly probably leads to some of the hilarity, but you could probably fit in another one or two streams a year and they'd still be as good.
Emile counting out $5 in pennies in his fucking closet, and then asking Masae if she wanted him to bend over was pretty fucking good.

As far as insta-death blocks go, no. In SMW, Muchers were the only block you could use for an insta-death block.
