Also, someone in these threads mentioned dropwigs only attack from the ceiling, and I found out today that's not true. Asshole.
>homestuck
I've only ever encountered 2 dropwigs, I fell for it both times
Why is there so much scav hate. Scavs are your friends
Imagine if you could suck dick for food. haha

Just you wait until you play Hunter. You're going to start watching the ceiling like a paranoid schizophrenic
Moon is for _______
Can a 59 be good? I thought games under 80 metacritic got laughed off the board.
Loved this game. I hope more people get to play it, Rain World is the first game that I played in a long time that gave me that sense of wonder and experimentation I had back when I was a child.
It's one of those games that's either a hard hit, or a hard miss. there's not much in between, you either "get it" or you don't. For what it's worth, I've played the fuck out of it and have fallen in love with it.
It's a shame since artistically the game is a masterpiece, but the difficulty is a huge turn off for a lot of people
how about you actually ready some of those quality reviews and see that their criticisms boil down to "GAME IS HARD AND OBTUSE, AND THAT'S A BAD THING! (btw i only played 2-3 hours and didn't get past the first two areas)"
Polygon at it again
the whole game is a hard casual filter; Rain world is definitely not for everybody,
Hold on. So Hunter has a time limit? Meaning you don't really have any time explore. What's the point then?
>What's the point then?
It's a challenge, don't you like challenges? There is a mod that removes the time limit if you just wanna explore.
You can't try hunter until after beating the game. It's an extra challenge, requiring you learn how to not just pass every creature, but usually kill them. The extra difficulty is _fun_
bump
That one is literally the worst. Took me a long ass time to get it.
Why would I spend 3+ hours travelling across the realm for two sentences of vague lore? Serious question
Encountered my first spitter spider recently. How is it that this game instills so much fear in me?
Lore hunting is serious business.
Because you like playing the game? I collected literally every pearl in the game without using passages.
Because Moon is my waifu and I like listening to her talk
I literally just bought this game on steam after pirating and playing it for a while on the switch
how fucked am I?
yfw
Runs a lot better on PC especially the ending so you probably made a good choice. Also youre supporting the devs so good on you.
It has a learning curve. That's all it needs to get a shit score
So is the Karma gating/hibernation system just a way to pad playtime or what
>That feel when you're collecting pearls but can't sleep in Moon's shelter anymore because the pearls you're carrying will get lost in the massive pile of stockpiled pearls you created before you can get Moon to read them
Out of everything I think karma gates are the worst part of the game for me, having to grind for an hour at low karma sucks dick
If you're low on karma (i.e.dying repeatedly) are you really ready to move on to an even harder area? There's hardly any gates that even have a high requirement anyhow
>Roll a bad cycle length
>Exit before thirty seconds
>Start again
>Max length cycle
Pearl appraisal.
>karma grind
>an hour
Unless you're in sky island I really dont think it takes that long.
I want to fuck a slugcat so bad.
God please.
what's the best region and why is it THE EXTERIOR
Five Pebbles for aesthetics, The Exterior for gameplay
Sky Island for scavenger, lizard, and vulture antics.
Twice I've been gated purely because I hadn't hibernated between gates. The game isn't really very difficult, at least not yet.
A handful of times I've died after a karma gate but before reaching another hibernation chamber because I ran into a new creature, like the axolotls, which means I have to hunt and hibernate in the area I just cleared so I can take another run at the new area and hope to God I find a hibernation chamber this time. That's just busywork. I'm not 'dying repeatedly' in the previous area. Yes, I'm ready to move on.
Are there actually five colored pearls in Sky Islands or is the wiki lying to me. I've got 14 pearls so far
Sky Islands only has 2 pearls, the lore you get is randomized between the 5 you see on the wiki. You need to do multiple playthroughs to get them all the legit way.
>I know I won't finish Rain World
>because I just do not enjoy playing Rain World
Well tough fucking shit, it's your job to do so.
You think a movie reviewer gets to walk out of a movie halfway through because they didn't like it, then go write a full piece on it anyway?
Fuck, these people are trash.
This
I can only imagine going through the ending with lag-o-vision. It already plays like swimming through molasses without chugging hardware
It has some lore reasons. The Hunter Slugcat has cancer, it’s why he has any number of cycles to complete he has to do. And yes this is true, he has cancer
Ending ran okay for me on Switch, Five Pebbles was the real shitshow in some of those swarm rooms.
There are always food and a hibernation spot nearby all the gates
I tried to make a thread yesterday but no one showed up so I will ask this again. Would you want a sequel that focuses or features the other Iterators that are mentioned? If there’s ever a sequel, I think the other Iterators will be in it, instead of just 5P and Moon
It's the most probable direction they would take. Hunter mode+new ending already elaborates on NSH a little.
The devs are still developing something for this game since easier implementation for future updates was mentioned in one of the 1.7 posts. Personally I'm hoping for a new mode featuring the unused black slugcat that introduces some new regions. I doubt a full sequel is planned though.
I'd like to be able to explore the cities built on Iterators.
Originally there was going to be a region based on Kowloon Walled City. I'm guessing the city we see in the background is a remnant of that.

This game has one of the most "lived in" dead worlds I've seen in a game. All of the animals and flora having their quirks is really cool, and discovering new things in new areas is a blast. I am absolute dog shit at the game, and just recently got the hang of the combat to down vultures, but scavs still have the tendency to oneshot me.
Did I make a mistake going to the Shaded Citadel as my third area of my first playthrough?
>Killing scavs
You’re going the right direction actually. You can choose to go the hardest path too, which only means to meet 4 Echoes throughout the world but you’re not doing that. Just a hint, don't go to the shoreline, find another path to the east, thats all im saying
I just got to The Wall. That FUCKING climb. I only realised you could go down after a good few deaths because I jumped off the side because the time before, despite going at what I assumed was a reasonably fast pace, the rain hit by the time I was getting ready to open my ass to wh*Te Lizards, so I suicided for pips. By that time I was already too invested in what was above to take more than one suicidal run through what's below. A summary of my experiences.
>Second dropwig I've ever seen rapes my face
>Salamanders rape my ass because I went for the fruit
>Attempt to cheese the Salamanders down the hole only for 2 wh*Te lizards and a blue lizard to also fall from the sky and proceed to advance on me causing me to also fall down the hole and get my ass raped again
>Cheese the Salamanders off the hole before jumping across, only for a wh*Te lizard to drop behind me right after I jump across and immediately tongue my ass
>Get to the pole plant. Suss the pole plant. Get past the pole plant. There are two pole plants.
>Get near there again but get wet
>Manage to get through Salamander town without cheesing, on the run from 5 hungry boys after climbing the mast to bait them. As I was preparing for the final jump across to safety, a Blue Lizard plonks down on the other side
>Survive that by going to the lower platform and smacking him down before giving the Sallys the runaround again. Run into a wh*Te Lizard while running from a wh*Te Lizard.
>Reach the shelter
Tbqh game was a 7/10 to me before this fucking BULLSHIT, now at least 9/10.
Those dicks threw a rock at me when I first encountered them, they had it coming.
Shaded Citadel is one of the regular paths you can take.
Going to Shoreline is fine at this point in the game.
Are those red things edible?
>Just a hint, don't go to the shoreline
Thats where the overseer directs you first tho, plus its a really short region if you go in through shaded so its no problem
Oh by Salamanders I mean orange lizards it seems there's actually salamander enemies in this game
Everything is edible if you're brave enough
Yes but you have to hatch them in your hibernation cycle but be careful. Why? You’ll see why
How do I get good at killing predators? I see youtube videos of people just obliterating them with spears and backflips and shit but when I try approaching after a spear them they snap out of it instantly
My plan is always this. I try to keep a spear in my self at all times, if you see another spear nearby, get into attack mode when need to, or ignore and run away if the only spear you have is on you. The common enemies you encounter can never be killed with one spear strike
>The common enemies you encounter can never be killed with one spear strike
Well, as long as you're on a flat surface you can always slide-spear the lizards in the face, but the technique is a bit strict and will probably get newbs killed.
In case you're fighting lizards, you have to hit the body to do real damage, hitting the head will only stun them for a moment. One very effective way to attack is to hit their head with a piece of rubble for an opening and then quickly hit them with the spear. Hold the rubble in the right hand and the spear in the left for this.
You also need to get a feel for when it's safe to retrieve your spear out of the predator's body. If you have an opening, you can retrieve/quickly throw again multiple times to kill even tanky enemies like green lizards and vultures, can be very risky though.
Oh shit. Am I a mother now?
You can let it follow you around for shits and giggles or you can eat it for 2 food.
I fucking hate shoreline, I've been to water processing, the garbage dump, the factory, looks to the moon, and the extremely dark area but I keep getting stuck in fucking shoreline with nowhere to go
Cool.
They were delicious
>Slugcat
>makes instead, a mixture of dog, bear. ogre and looks lie a rejected MonStar
jesus fucking christ, I hope nobody paid cash for this
This is the kind of shit posting that ruined those great Nuclear Throne threads
Gave this game a second chance after a few months and fucking loved it. I initially got stuck in drainage system and it really dampened my interest, but once I restarted I was hooked.
Explore the dark area more. You're heading in the right direction.
Better learn how to swim and wiggle that sluggy butt. Seriously though, if you're stuck in Shoreline, the place you want to go in beneath Shaded Citadel. Follow the yellow helper, unless you did something unforgivable to Moon Onee-chan and they left you.
I recommend continuing exploring Shaded Citadel
I went through Shaded Citadel but somehow ended up in Shoreline again.
I killed her because I went all the way through shoreline and was frustrated that there was nothing to show for it. I even gave her the yellow pearl in that area but she didn't react. So it is my fault I don't have overseers anymore
Why must Big Sis Moon suffer such under the hands of these impetuous anons?
>killing big sis moon
Drainage System is one hell of a beginner trap, many playthroughs ended right there. It gets especially bad if you somehow end up at the Filtration System gate.
Overseer is gone but if you touch those orange ghost orbs they will lead you somewhere. Go back to Shaded Citadel.
What can I say, I am a hungry boy and those jellyfish just weren't cutting it
Is there anything that sums up Rain World lore better than this
thanks for the tip, will keep it in mind and probably leave thread to avoid further spoilers
Good luck user.

the game's vinyl art is pretty cute
jk loser
Someone post the dab picture
>tfw back flipping over a lizard and spearing it
I was reading through the reviews and saw this headline. What did he mean by this?
I'm going to pick Moon up and run away with her from the rainy place!
She belongs to me! Slugcat!
Uhh maybe the apocalyptic world setting?
I cant make sense of most clickbait headlines
...that's actually sort of accurate it does remind me of certain parts of stalker
Thanks for the epic thread, bros. I hope it gets more people to try the game
It's a good comparison theme-wise and this is coming from someone who has hundreds of hours in STALKER
The idea of a solitary expedition into hostile territory with strange flora and fauna where your survival is dependent upon your preparation and ability to adapt to strange situations rings true for both games
Slugcat is so cute! He has such a thicc tail too.
I want to sleep with him between my thighs.
>got the game a few days ago
>got to industrial complex
>got stuck because the only way I can think of going that would lead to progress is through a max karma (if that is what it is?) gate
>i suck too much to get enough to go through
i'm probably missing something ain't i
Hell yea
Wish you guys could hear the chomping sounds
There is another gate in the region that has a 2 karma requirement. Do not take the 3 karma gate leading up however, that path will not lead you where you want to go for now.
Red Lizards don't fuck around
tfw no red lizard to fuck around with
Lewd!
Red lizards are the chads of Rain World.
i think i might've found the gate you're talking about, or at least *a* gate.
i'm in the outskirts now and there's a blue guide thing
what the hell
