But there are still a ton of tropes and themes that carry over between them all, like spells and Chocobos and certain powerful monsters. Spirits Within has almost NO relation to any reoccurring Final Fantasy element except one or two dumb named references.

Fun and enjoyable movie, even if a bit stupid sometimes, but absolutely idiotic to call it a Final Fantasy movie. The only thing it had connection wise to the series is "the spirit of the planet", which has always been at least fluff to any of the worlds.
I still hold to this day a horror FPS against Phantoms would be great.
