I don't understand though, why is Nero's DT so different from Dante's and Vergil's?
I don't think the wings are everything, just the beginning of the transformation sequence, but it's like pure motivation blue energy. It reminds me of pic related in Gurren Lagann movie 2.

I think they're going to fully adapt Vorgil's blade work. Where you could change the property of Yamato to make it slower or faster but add another layer where you can use it without pulling the blade once, similar to V's mechanic where enemies turn gray then you pull the blade and finish them for maximum style.

I feel like if he doesn't have Beowulf or Force Edge (which only makes sense) then he needs something to compensate, and I don't think that just giving Yamato more moves will work. Dante has more options than ever before, Nero has the Breaker system opening up entire new mechanics to the Circle button, V is a completely new take on the series' combat with multiple summons. They wouldn't just take something away from Vergil without giving him something in return.

What that something is might not be known until we finish the story.

I actually really really liked the concept of Vorgil's different weapons just being different stances and ways to use Yamato. The execution left something to be desired, but I thought it would've been much better if 4SE went that route instead of ebin force edge and beowulf over again.

I can see that, but at the same time I like it. It kind of symbolizes that Vergil is the same as always. He still tries to obtain power. He failed and he's back and he's still trying. He's not maturing and growing up, he's the same as ever and the feelings he have are too big to just leave behind untouched. This is kind of opposite to Dante who has a full arc in DMC3 and goes from uncaring jackass to someone who realizes his responsibility and the legacy he is a part of as a son of Sparda.

Skimming through parts of the novel with my (shit) Japanese. In Trish's bit, we get a little background story on Mundus and Vergil. Apparently, Vergil didn't make a fake identity like Dante did, so Mundus was hot on his trail. He sent his goons after Vergil, but he had already mastered the Yamato and they got BTFO. Later, Mundus catches wind of the of struggle between Dante and Vergil in the events of DMC3 and observes.

Novel also literally confirms that Mundus' resurrection was incomplete at the time of DMC3 and he probably would have lost to Vergil (or rather, "struggled") if Vergil was in perfect condition. He breaks him into Nelo, but apparently Vergil's residual will still wouldn't fully submit to him. So Mundus gave Nelo the amulet (as it symbolized "power" to him) - thus making Nelo fully subservient.

Also, I'm ditching these threads so I won't be updating like that or anything (I'm sure the Twitter account will do a better job anyway.) Just thought I'd share since it was interesting.

My theory is that V turns into Vergil. Sort of a Sheogorath deal. He probably was summoning some shit and accidentally pulled Vergil into him. When V gets cracks on his face, he's physically changing into Vergil for a time. That's why they have different voices and appearances. V has some of Vergil's memories, which is how he knows how stubborn Dante can be. Both Vergil and V say they're running out of time, which refers to how much time they have left before they change back into the other one.
