Would have been neat if after the nukes combat still happened for a year or two until society fell so far apart that all structure broke down. Too much fiction portrays nuclear exchanges as the world ending over night. The one good thing I can say about Fallout 3 was that it made an effort to show that even after the nukes fell a lot of the military was still operation and doing relief efforts and trying to maintain its structure. It all fell apart but it’s a neat addition.

There's usually a painted section on the spring that will give you an idea of how many bullet you have left. A 30 round PMAG fulled loaded will still have some spring that's visible

Background: World got nuked and folks in Moscow hid in the metro tunnels to survive.
First game: Your station is attacked by some strange mutants, a local badass is called over to kill them but he tasks you with a mission to tell his pals he got killed if he isn't back in 48 hours, you do that and in the end go through the dangerous metro and in the end nuke the mutants, only to learn that they were friendly at the last second.
Second game: You help your new pals take over an old government bunker you gound a nuke in in the first game, then you travel across the metro while hunting the last dark one (mutant from previous game) and ultimately make contact with it, you then help it rescue its people that were in cryo-storage at that government bunker for some reason, while fighting off against the entire red army.
Third game: You suddenly got the idea that there might be other survivors and so went to the surface to look for radio signals against the better judgement of your peers.
