I have never got an actual answer for this but why is this lazy untalented company allowed to get away with it. They charge £60 for games that look worse than any game on modern consoles that cost less than £20, they sell underpowered, badly made consoles like the switch yet still charge than consoles like the ps4 or xbox that is atleast twice as powerful. But focusing on games alone why do they get away with charging as much for shit like Mario Deluxe than for games like Red dead 2 or Gods of War or even games like Call of Duty which takes far more money to make, far more effort, far more content, far more gameplay mechanics, far better graphics the list goes on and on.
>inb4 meme answers without giving actual reasons or arguments
No backwards compatibility so the games will always be pretty expensive.
Some of the games are definitely worth it, like the 3D mario or the BotW Zelda but some, like Mario Kart aren't
Ultimately I end up getting the previous gen console when the new one is out after a year and getting most of the games for 5-20 euro
Justin Campbell
The games are actually fun
Isaac Edwards
Strong IP's worth more then their weight in gold and a clean record in the eyes of normal people and not hyper autists.
They are like Apple where the brand is stronger then the product.
Nicholas Morris
as a console its garbage, as a handheld it is excellent. the whole idea is it's flexible so straddles various markets at once hence the name.
the complaints against it being an underpowered console are legit. most other arguments, not so much, when looked at in detail
Jose Baker
It's okay when Nintendo does it. They get away with everything.
David Reyes
As expected no argument

It's the Switch Tax.
Old ass games re-release for $60 and people eat that shit up.

Good games that aren't movies

Don't worry user, you'll show them how things are done when you finish that indie masterpiece you're working on.

Why are you allowed to be autistic
David Turner
Blame the consumers. If they'd value even the used and old games much lower then the brand new games would get cheaper and probably better. But everyone sells 10 year old wii games for 50$ used. That shit is 10-15$ max on other consoles (of course depends on rarity). >People value Nintedo games way high >People buy new games instead of high priced old/used games >Nintendo gets money >Nintendo sees they get money from x so they keep making x just to keep money coming
>People sell old games form 10$ >People buy them instead of new games >Nintendo get's no money >Nintendo lowers prices and ups "the game" to lure buyers back in
Anthony Cooper
I'd be okay with it if the hardware wasn't fragile garbage. I put the joycons through a little abuse, and suddenly the control sticks suffer from massive drifting issues, making most games unplayable. Of course I can't even use another controller because Nintendo brand DRM demands that I only buy from them. Even though the dock has a USB port, apparently I can't have an unlicensed controller.
Jacob Fisher
but I thought gaming companies were charities and gamers the subjects?
these people are trying to run a business for real for real? like, capitalist and stuff?
Carson Perez
Because the people who actually play a lot of games don't really give a shit about graphics. sure they'll care about whether a game has a nice art style and has at least a stable framerate or not but they don't give a shit about having top of the line textures and all that.
Daniel Sanders
new format not re-release. at least get it halfway right
Carson Ortiz
The only arguments I ever see are >its not a movie this is a meme, Red Dead 2 has more production and gameplay value and everything else in the first mission than the entire exclusive switch games library >they are fun That is just perspective, millions say call of duty is fun yet people don't make that argument for being the best game ever, and it actually is better than switch games in almost every aspect yet costs less, but I am making the point for good games like red dead 2 that costs as much as Mario Deluxe and Mario Odyssey despite being better by at least 50x
So basically it comes down to Nintendo being greedy and they know man children out there will pay?

I have never got an actual answer for this but why is this lazy untalented company allowed to get away with it. They charge £60 for games that look ok but have little to no gameplay, they sell underpowered, badly made consoles like the ps4 yet still charge as much as a GPU that is atleast twice as powerful. Why do they get away with not making any games? They had a huge list of great games in the PS1 and PS2, games which had far more effort, far more content, far more gameplay mechanics than the cinematic copy pasta shit they make today.
Allocating resources to things that matter is not lazy, it's smart.
Their target audience does not jack off to graphics. Having good game mechanics is the most important part.
Aiden Phillips
I honestly buy most of my games on Switch instead of PC now if they dont have much in the way of graphics simply because its a (buzzword sorry) comfier way to play games. Dont have to jump through all the fucking hoops of online stores and DRM and accounts and launchers and shit some PC games put you through and everything just feels a little more solid and real. Most of the PS4 exclusives dont interest me even a little besides Bloodborne and The Last Guardian which I've already played. Might sound a bit weeb but these western cutscene heavy narrative-focused games just dont appeal to me. Just because the game looks worse, doesnt mean it's less fun. The fact that all games cost the same to begin with is a little dumb considering how far they all are from being equal. Also Switch's actual build quality is fine, neither I nor anyone I know have had any issues with the hardware, so I'm starting to wonder if the build quality issues are merely things that happened once or twice that just get brought up constantly by poorfag console war kids. >the ps4 or xbox that is atleast twice as powerful Maybe the fucking pro versions but even then its unlikely, Switch is a bit more powerful then the last gen consoles, which PS4 and Xbox one aren't really that far ahead of. It's definitely a lot weaker, but nowhere near double, and considering it uses only around 10% the wattage of the other consoles, that's pretty impressive in it's own way.
Basically I like how minimilist it is, reminds me of the consoles of old. The other consoles often feel too much like they're trying to be PCs at times, but I already have a PC, and its the least comfy game platform to use so I dont know why other consoles are trying to be more like it. Simpler can be better in a lot of ways.

Nintendo makes fun games. Yes, that is a subjective valuation. But it's not my fault if you're too insecure to play Mario and feel comfortable in your status as a man who takes care of his business at the same time. I haven't had as much fun as Mario + Rabbids since Div:OS2, and I haven't had as much fun as Odyssey since Mario 64. Nevermind Smash and Zelda which don't even really have competitors in their field, Nintendo just makes quality games with pedigree I can trust. (A subjective appeal, once again.)
Robert Cruz
I generally agree with your points. It also helps that if I start playing a game on my tv. I can easily swap to handheld on a dime if I need to go somewhere or what not. The thing is just convenient as hell.
Wyatt James
They aren't lazy
Chase Wood
difference is none of what you said is correct, PS4 is more powerful, far better games in every aspect, gameplay, graphics, content, mechanics, costs far more, takes far more effort and for the most part is cheaper
Try again
Nathan Cooper
Fun is subjective, but I'd like some actual content with my fun, thank you.
Wyatt Harris
>content and gameplay >Sony choose one
Luke Diaz
this
It all comes down to Nintendo being a lazy company that preys on man children.
Who here Is excited for an actual competent company to make a handheld that will be so much better like a new psp

Please without using memes explain to me how any game ever made by Nintendo is better than say Red Dead 2, be specific

RDR2 literally has 300ms of input lag, nothing will ever be worse than that. BoTW has actual gameplay.
Nathaniel Peterson
Bloated, unoptimized interactive-movie tech demos sold en masse do have an audience. That same audience is shocked and offended that there exist other lanes in gaming. SHHH, YOU'RE *THE* GAMER. YOU BELONG IN OUR ECO SYSTEM. DONT LET THE OUTSIDE DISTURBANCES TROUBLE YOU. SLEEP. SLEEP, LITTLE ONES.
Brayden Mitchell
being on a proprietary format doesn't mean it isn't a rerelease. that's like saying a dvd release of star wars isn't a rerelease of it since it's different from vhs. it is a rerelease in every respect
Carson Gray
wtf is this autism a meme answer as expected, kys
Jeremiah Reed
Because retards will pay for it.

But do you expect to pay the same price for formats? considering the VHS is discounted now, should the new DVD not match that price?

bold argument, considering all the input lag that smash ultimate has.

I am making a point you moron, I am talking about both consoles. You have literally no argument
How the fuck is it not are you dumb
Justin Cook
Because even when they are I think their products are usually worth it, and when they aren't, I skip. Thats just like... your opinion, man
Gabriel Cook
By gameplay value do you mean a railed roaded into a dev intended set piece with no player freedom?
Nathaniel Roberts
Let's dispense with the consolewarfaggotry, shall we? Genuine question, why are the following games being priced at $60? >1-2-Switch >ARMS >Super Mario Tennis >Kirby Star Allies >Pokken Tournament DX >Labo >Pokemon LGPE >Super Mario Party I'm asking the question because I mainly game on PC. I bought DOS2 for $50 and XCOM2 for $60. Both games look great with great gameplay and high replayabilty, and run at constant 60fps. Meanwhile, all the games listed above don't have the production value of a AAA or PC game, short length, no replayability, and can't even run at 60fps. So why is it okay for those games to be priced at $60 when they should be $30 - 40 at best? The only game I have on my Switch is MHGU, which I also feel overpriced as fuck at $60 although I already put 600 hours into it.
Rabid as fuck fan base that'll attack anyone and anything who genuinely criticizes them.
Kevin Powell
No I mean a game with thousands of potential free roam hours, thousands of npc mechanics, an amazing story, modern day graphics that make the price point worth it, a massive online experience with years more of content, 100x more budget and man hours on a game honestly the list is endless. Instead of a game that looks like a ps2 game, has a boring story, 1/100 of the mechanics and a budget of like 5 million yet costing the same price as the beforementioned. Now lets wait for you to respond to only one cherry picked point I made because you are a dumb retard
Xavier Evans
In the free market, things are worth what people will pay for them. If Nintendo puts a game up for $60 and it sells, why should they charge $20? >because they'll get over 3 times as many sales Will they? There are dozens of markets and bean counters for whom their jobs are to find the price point that will maximize profits. If they're putting a game up for a price, it's because that's the best price for it. For a further example of this, see the Wii U Captain Toad game which they sold for $30 at launch. They know what they're doing.
Daniel Garcia
Red Dead 2 was everything I wanted it to be but it still kept me less engaged (by measure of time) than Smash or Zelda. You can't quantify raw enjoyment of a thing so it is naturally going to appear arbitrary in place of "buzzwords" or "memes". RDR2 has production values through the roof, of course, and the game world is immaculately presented, but that only goes so far. In the end I have more fun playing with my physics and movement options (GTA4 as a R* example, Mario Odyssey as a Nintendo example) than I have fun "appreciating" how polished a game world is (GTA5, RDR2). For example I could spend some hours practicing really difficult jumps and whatnot that appear to be poasible but fail due to my poor execution, than I can have fun riding horse and looking at trees, or playing poker, or repeating Random Encounters, or dragging a darkie behind my horse with a rope (which is a potent novelty but it's still ultimately just a vanity thing that doesn't have any recurring enjoyment factor to be drawn from it (unless you're REALLY 1700s Kentucky-tier racist).
Note: results may vary according to what (You) value.
Chase Price
Although it varies from dev to dev within their company, Nintendo does usually push their limited hardware to it's limits, at least with their flagship titles. Their hardware is weaker but they for the most part are still developing modern software and $60 has been the standard since the 7th gen.
Parker Peterson
wasting money doesn't make a game good, but I guess that is what being a snoyfag means
Grayson Taylor
Because no one ever responds to the points made, they simply create new points that suit there opinion and cherry pick bits of info
Charles Cook
Only answer that makes sense so far
Can you explain how you get as much enjoyment out of a game like Smash as you do for Red Dead 2 since I bought Smash it feels like an app store game to me, nostalgia. And I also have Mario Oddysey and completed the main story and did not think it was worth the price and has zero replay ability or free roam maybe if Nintendo "wasted" more money they wouldn't have games that look like dogshit with 100 hours max content like there flagship Zelda game
Jaxson Murphy
considering I already own it on blu-ray and this is the equivalent of a digital version for my phone, I'd expect it to be less actually
Parker Cook
Some people just like different things
Christian Roberts
>maybe if Nintendo "wasted" more money they wouldn't have games that look like dogshit with 100 hours max content like there flagship Zelda game You just want needless fluff and filler, nothing substantial ever added to the game. Makes sense, It's the snoy way. RDR2 was a slow, boring excercise in railroaded frustration. It is a well polished turd, nothing more. The gunplay is still boring, the mission structure uninspired and once the graphics stop to impress it will be forgotten forever.
Jace Harris
But because of retarded man children like them the rest of us are stuck paying full price for Nintendos overpriced games because man children continue to let them be lazy and over price there games
Prices that should be Zelda Botw $40 Smash $40 Mario Oddysey $30 The rest $30 or less at most
Robert Fisher
Nintendo has to do this shit because they are the only major company that innovates and makes good games. That means they actually have to invest in good game development and risk taking. Yes, most of the time Nintendo doesn't take risks any more, but they play it safe so that they can afford to take occasional risks. They can't afford to take risks all the time.
Charles Martin
Zelda is there best game and has less than 100 hours of content oh no no no
Eli Howard
What does that have to do with anything? And how is 100 hours little? You just proved my point, you just want mindless filler and no substance.
Jaxon Rivera
Because games like Skyrim, Red Dead 2, Gta 5 and other free roam games has thousands or even never ending hours of content, that is why they are worth the price point
Dominic Baker
Well at least with Smash I put about 80 hours into World of Light to 100% it on Hard twice, once as a novelty of course but then the second run was vengeance. I suited up Ganondorf with all skills unlocked and my most powerful spirits and went back to get vengeance on all the shit niggers that roadblocked me the first run, now with some ridiculous 80% Smash attacks and 120% Warlock Punches. I also spent a lot of time doing all the offline challenges and trying out classic their classic modes, seeing which characters felt good again in SSBU (I picked up Ness again this time around, he got a few inadvertent buffs that make him super fun) and then trying to bang out my 9.9s which was a lot more frustrating, but still kept me engaged. I haven't played a Smash title for this long since N64, I just thought it delivered in every way that Brawl or SSB4 let me down. I actually didn't think I'd play it for more than 50 hours, but results don't lie and I clocked 145 in the first month of release because I could not put it down. SSBU made me forget RDR2 entirely, there's not much to made objective about that though as I could convince other people their interpretations were wrong. We just like what we like. And discussions would be a lot more solvent if people addressed what they value in games so you wouldn't waste time trying to convince others that their preferences were wrong.
Levi Hill
their fans and demographic are mentally stunted people aka children or forever alone permavirgin manchildren mentally stuck in their childhood nostalgia days before reality hit them as an adult. they can easily get away with it because they have a unique selling point. They are literally without competition in what they do and who they pander to.
>Skyrim >worth anything Oh, so you are just a moron.
Jason Baker
Nintendo games cost exactly the same as new games on XBox or PS4. Stop being retarded.
Bentley Walker
At the end of the day the formats dictate the prices, first and foremost. Any game on Bluray format should always expect to be sold for a similar price to any other general Bluray.
The discrepancy arises when companies began to sell digital copies cheaper than physical, making physical format suffer and created a bubble where the consumer wants more and more for less and less. The f2p model has arguably been born from this. But how long before that bubble bursts?
Nintendo threw a curveball by shoring up physical sales by maintaining a high digital price. People always cite digital anchor price of $60, but for Nintendo games the physical copy usually is the cheaper of the two, in general. This is entirely deliberate.
You can replay Smash to death, but i'm pretty sure you would not beat Horizon Zero 100 times.
Also i see your main concern is prices. Videogames are a luxury, not a right, so get a job and stop being poor.
Joseph Brown
Because the price of a console or handheld is based on the value you assign to it, not the development cost. Games are charged based on how much the company thinks you'll pay for it. Hence, games that the company thinks people won't pay full dollar for are reduced in price
Connor Nelson
Yeah but those new games are better in every aspect Skyrim is better than every Nintendo Switch game combined and is universally praised as amazing you autistic man child faggot Says you
Lucas Lee
>literally a $hill pic Nintendo had to pay and sponsor aka hand out free Shitches to these cock sucking fags to pretend they like to play Bing Bing Man. just like they paid John Cena.

Or better, show evidence that Skyrim is universally acclaimed.
>1-2-Switch Cash in on dumb people before bundling it with consoles. >ARMS Typical fighting game content. >Super Mario Tennis Was released unfinished and is still getting content added. >Kirby Star Allies High production value but wasn't optimized enough. Also was released unfinished and got content added later. >Pokken Tournament DX Typical fighting game content. >Labo Game with physical stuff making it take up a considerably larger amount of space on shelves and costing more to ship per unit. >Pokemon LGPE Cash in on nostalgia/Pokemon Go >Super Mario Party Similar content to other Mario Party games.

Did you just have a stroke? That shows literally nothing in your favor. And if something from 1999 is the best you can do, that is quite sad.
