Doom 2 had much better level design than the original

Playing a MC who isn't male and white isn't inherently bad

Monster design was also better in Doom 2

Doom 2 is just a better game in general. The level design has more complexity to it, namely crushers

All Doom games are fucking garbage that nobody outside of Boomers who grew up with them care, they became irrelevant as soon as GoldenEye & Half-Life came out which is why Doomfags have such a hatred for Half-Life & console FPS games. And can only cling to "Muh influence" arguments to defend their shit game, as if it being good in 1993 means anything when it's garbage that nobody wants to play now

My favorite levels were Suburbs and Industrial Zone

There were crushers in the original in E2M2 IIRC

Seething Valvecuck because HL3 turned out to be a text tile

I prefer Doom 2 aswell, but it might just be because it was the game I watched my older brother play when I was young.

>Trying this hard to fit in

>crushers
>suburbs
>good
3/10 made me reply

I played through Doom for the first time last year and now it’s one of my favorite games desu

>Controversial opinions thread
I think you 'retarded' opinions, OP.

This is true for the majority of doom 2 levels

Doom 2 has about 24 levels that are good and 8 that were shit. Doom 1 has about 27 levels overall and maybe 10 of them are shit. Even if episode 1 is a 9/9 perfect episode.

Both Doom 1 and 2 were novelties and the level design was mostly tedious.

Quake was their first truly good FPS because it implemented 3D and physics .

Doom >half life >halo > shit >cod > fucking dead old fat men > loot/grind shooters

Nice Boogeyman you have there faggot.

Not an argument, how about trying to defend your shit game without using buzzwords or crying about a far more iconic game like Half-Life

stfu, Suburbs had sweet music and was filled with monster rooms w/ 30 imps and arch viles etc. When you picked up the keycard a fucking army of cacodemons and mancubus and all these monsters come pouring in and you just spend the whole level circlestrafing around / through the lot of them at 100mph pumping rockets into them

The entirety of E3 is shit and half of episode 2 is pretty bad. Also, all the secret levels are shit.
Don't even get me started on episode 4

The best Doom was 64.

STILL not an argument, literally just crying & seething about your shit game without actually attempting to defend the actual aspects of game itself

If you like Half Life but shit on "modern cinematic movie games", you are a huge hypocrite

Knee-Deep in the Dead > DII Hell on Earth > Inferno! > Thy Flesh Consumed > No Rest for the Living > Master Levels for DII > TNT > Plutonia > The Shores of Hell

How can I respond to your arguments when you made none excpect calling doom fans boomers
*seeps monster ultra zero*

You mean "wrong opinions", right?

Half life had secret areas, enemy variety and weapon variety while not having cancer like regenerating health or weapon carry limit

Doom is great on its own, even today. Do you want a fucking school paper on why doom holds up today in terms of design?

>Super violent shooter where you go to Mars to fucking kill demons coming from Hell with a shotgun and chainsaw
>Not good

Pick juan

Nah e3 has like 2 good levels. And e2 is mostly good. Yeah i didn't even count episode 4 as part of doom 1.

I'm 25 and Doom II was my first FPS along with Dark Forces. They both kick ass, you noob.

how is it a controversial opinion?

D2 is a better and more refined game than the first one

half life and doom are both shit

Completely wrong. Half-life is still a game that is focused on level design with a strong weapon set and bestiary. Just because it triggers people with add who don't understand level progression as puzzle doesn't make it a non-game.

>No Rest for the Living
What is this? Never heard of it. Was it made by ID?

>No Rest for the Living
I first played it in XBLA Doom 2

Apparently it's also in the BGF edition of Doom3

What do you have against a narrative?
Half Life is nothing like today's AAA walking simulators, all of the storyline action took place in game.

Despite Doom 2's messy map designs. I kind of liked Tricks and Traps. Anyone agreed?

The problem with the design of HL is that in their effort of not puting cutscenes in the game, they turned a significant part of the game into an unskippable cutscene.
This is much more aggravated in HL2

That map is god tier and one of the most creative maps in FPS history. Anyone that says it's not doable with a pistol start in UV is a fucking pussy

Fuck off, The Shores of Hell is kino
E2M9 can fuck right off though

>It's an "Suburbs but with 3/4/5x the enemies" episode.

>E2M9 can fuck right off though
Civvie11 called it the worst map in the game and I agree

idk
Ep 2 was just very forgettable to me

Some of the maps are amazing in terms of gameplay perspective. But some of them are pure fillers just to extend play time. I really like "refueling station" and "The Pit" But "Nirvana" is a fuking joke of a map.

What 'level progression as a puzzle'?

The problem with Half-Life is that the whole game feels like "piecemeal situations: the game". The monsters don't compliment each other, so you end up with 'the marine part' 'the female assassin part' 'the alien grunt part' instead of situations where you fight mixed groups of enemies that support each other.

The level design is also quite bad, way too obsessed with shallow gimmicks and scripted setpiece than actual fun exploratory levels.

nope. let me tell you why, i can't remember a single map from it. Doom 1 though? I can remember at least 10. And before you come up with some dumb excuse for me, I played them back to back two years ago for the first time. So no nostalgia fagging from me.

I'm sorry that I'm the one who has the tell you but you're retarded

You're gonna make Tom Hall cry

That's an opinion, not an argument

you sound like a low iq game "journalist" aka worthless failure at life blogger with a bachelor's degree in women studies dance therapy

You guys don't even actually know anything about the games you shit on. You pretend like they are not even games but they are all always built on a foundation of standard third person action. The "walk and talk" shit you hate so much where you are forced to wait is especially prevalent in Half Life

I agree. Fun fact: refueling station was designed by tom hall and was going to be in doom 1
Nirvana and blood falls are the worst maps in doom 2

the argument lies in the heart of my opinion. because it's unmemorable, it has worse design.

I don't know how you people remember stuff like map names. I only remember go2it and that's it. And I've played the games a hundred times.

Blood and Duke Nukem are better and more fun games than Doom.

They improved on the formula, but they never achieved the smoothness and perfect movement that doom has

>they never achieved the smoothness and perfect movement that doom has
are you for real?

Sandy Peterson had a knack for actually trying to make you think when playing a level. This is apparent considering before Doom he made a cult classic tabletop RPG and worked on flight sims for Microprose. This triggers Romero brainlets.

The movement in build engine games feels a bit floaty to me compared to doom. It's a matter of taste though

Yes, Doomfags are literally the most delusional nostalgia jaded faggots in all of gaming

Sandy Peterson made slough of despair. Your argument is invalid

>even more controversial opinion

Neither classic Doom game had good level design. Modders far outdid what id did.

They did, like ten years after doom. 90s mod maps were fucking shite

>The problem with the design of HL is that in their effort of not puting cutscenes in the game, they turned a significant part of the game into an unskippable cutscene.
Thus starting a horrible, horrible trend.

>Duke Nukem
Most of the enemies were pseudo hitscanners. fuck that
