Who the fuck would actually stay invested in the series after KH3? The amount of time anyone jumping on the ride having to play 6 games and watch 3 movies and a gacha game, just to have most of the cast take no action in the battle and Sora and Kairi getting strung further along before getting a happy ending.

Q: I’m interested to know why Xehanort came to think that way (that the world should be remade). Nomura: Initially, I wanted to dive deeper into the naive, untainted Xehanort who we see playing chess in the next installment (before KH3 was made), but if I did that, the dark seeker arc wouldn’t have ended (lol), so I decided to shelve it for now.
The series fucked itself beyond repair after KH2. The next game would have to be a complete reboot for me to be to even be remotely interested.

the interview that came out right before KH3 launched had Nomura saying that KH3 took so long to come out was solely because it took forever to convince Pixar to hand over their IPs, and Nomura didn't want to make KH3 without Pixar worlds.
now that Pixar is onboard (and hopefully doesn't jump off for some reason) the next numbered game shouldn't be so far off.
