Would you submit Dark Souls as your defacto example of video games being art?
Would you submit Dark Souls as your defacto example of video games being art?
THIS is art
No? Why should I? I like the game, but I definitely don't think is the literal best example of ""videogame art"". Why in the ever loving name of fuck do you even care about such labels? Do you really need external reassuring that your hobby isn't shit?
I would submit Abzû
No, I would submit Ori and the Blind Forest. Specifically the ginso tree escape sequence, if I had to choose.
I don't, but I want to talk about Dark Souls and how it is a good example of video games being art.
yes of course
everything saparately could be art so a mix of those can be too.
also, i fucking love vidoe game music more than actual music
>a buggy, unfinished piece of shit is 'art'
how sad, just admit you're not proud of your hobby, the only people that try to call video games 'art' are people insecure in it, they want to be able to say 'but it's art!' when people question it being a huge waste of time for children
Everything is art you fucknut. The drawing I made when I was 5 is art. You're talking about higher art, and again: who cares? Do you need validation? "See, g-games are art!"
>Look at me, I play a lot of vidya but am above this pathetic medium because I recognise it's for children, *sniffs fart*
>Do you need validation
No, I don't. Why are you so angry?
The moment you make a decision to sell more copies, it stops being art and starts being a product. No AAA game ever made has ever been art
lmao fuck no
pretty much every fromsoft game is art. so are the yakuza games. so are bully and the 3D era GTA games, etc
But a lot of art is made specifically only with the goal of selling and making the creator money?
>story is art
>music is art
>3d models are art
but when you mix them they magically stop being art, please elaborate.
The longer an artform goes without being considered art the less jealous parasite "critics" infest it and drive it down an autistic niche path that does not take full advantage of the medium.
>No, I don't
You sure? Because...
>I want to talk about Dark Souls and how it is a good example of video games being art.
... makes it seem so. Why do you care?
>Why are you so angry?
Don't try and deflect blame. Every single person on the Internet that tries and declare games as art are nothing but shallow fucks that want their hobby to be for grown ups and thus feel the need to convince others what they're doing is "OK, because it's art!"
Are you braindead? Where did I declare I don't consider games art? Are you okay, user?
I would for BloodBorne
Submit it to who? What "art people" are you even talking about?
This painting was sold for over 40 million USD. And other similar paintings sold for double-digits too.
"Art" my ass.
i'm s-sorry user, can you forgive me?
>dude its hard so it must be art lmao
Cause it's interesting to talk about, lmfao not everything is insidious you fucking schzio
money laundering
>defacto example of video games being art
I'd reserve that title for mgs2
sure thing, user
He said art, not film
Video games don't need to be art
movies are art tho
what's the difference between film and movie in english? ESL here, no bully pls
>lmfao
>deflecting this hard
It's okay user, hopefully you'll grow out of needing confirmation out of things in life for you to enjoy them.
I suppose you think "coloring" and using crayons as a kid should mean people shouldn't become animators and painters, you dumbass
Art is subjective so the entire argument is fucking stupid and you're even more stupid for thinking you have any just answer.
Did you quote the wrong user? What the hell has your post to do with anything I said? Are you okay?
i just find out solaris has a movie (film to be precise), the book was good
wrong use of the expression "de facto", but yes.
>DOG GUARD OWNER GRAVE, ART!!
that would be Bloodborne, really
I don't get your strange aggression with video games being "art" and how you think your position has any higher merit than theirs. I don't even understand why your posts are so angrily written. Its like you can't even provide a basic argument without getting personal.
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are my prime examples of videogames being art but Souls games are pretty close. Then again Hidetaka Miyazaki was inspired by Ico
The argument is simple. We all have the same authority of declaring games art, ie none. I personlly think they are, or rather have the possibility to become ""higher art"" if both developers and consumers get their head out of their asses and stop making games with 10 minute cutscenes with "muh emotions".
But it feels like every person on the Internet that talks about games as art are looking for validation of some sorts, as if games not being art would mean they lose all their value. It's stupid because 10 years ago the idea wasn't as widespread as it is today. Now you can't go to a single video of a game on YT without finding some asshole saying "woah, this proves games are ART amirite fellow gamers? xDDDD" or "oh man, imagine this gam,e being made into a movie, wouldn't that be great?" which is completely missing the fucking point of video games to begin with.
It feels as if people desperately need to label games as "art" to justify them liking them.
I blame 2013: Journalists of today having to justify their own existence by evangelizing games like The Last of Us or Bioshock Infinite as mature storytelling.
I dont know man, Art today seems pretty shitty outside of typical paintings or drawings i'm sure you know. I think its pretty common knowledge that critics are dumbasses.
Personally, I think video games can be art. But its not something I sing and dance about, theres more to video games than just having a status of being "art". Sure a game is better if it can be perceived like that, but its certainly not a goal.
Probably something off itch.io honestly
Yes
