As in, I'm not sure it would be worth it, given that the majority of the characters in 7 don't have kids running around in 6, so they'd have to make up tons of new characters for the remake, and knowing how well they did in that regard in Echoes... Considering FE6 has around 54 characters there would still be plenty of newcomers to go around (Probably reserved for characters who are too old to have been born in 7 and old enough for their roles in 6, characters with canonical lineages, or anything else that would make parental links to 7 cumbersome.)

Roy starts the game as just as valid a unit as everyone else, is actually quite useful in chapter 4 (being able to reliably do >10 damage to a cavalier is very useful), and makes chapter 7 quite a bit easier if you've trained him to the point that he can actually take a hit or two. His inability to promote causes him to fall off throughout the Western Isles, and he doesn't recover until he promotes for the last three maps.

Thing is that these so-called "self-inserts" are really just standard MCs with extra customization. They are still their own, however bland, characters, so there's not much room to project your desired personality on the or influence their actions. Yeah just like 6. Who the fuck are you trying to fool? 6 is better than 7 in everyway. FE6's level design and gameplay structure is better and harder than 7 and using only the best objective. It succeeds at this by having a lot of variables in how one must approach that objective (map layouts, more powerful enemies, etc), whilst also littering it's maps with many relevant and useful side objectives. Coompare bandit land maps to anything from and positioning and mobilizing skils are required to win. Whilst FE7 has some okay maps at best, they're unfortunately also bundled in with a lot of boring, filler defense and rout garbage. The weakest maps in FE6 compare pretty favorably to the worst maps in 7, and there are a lot less of them. 6 also gives you far more unique and powerful items and weapons to utilize. You get legendary weapons as early as the Durandal in 8x, Brave Weapons and Reavers starting from 10, a Longbow and Physic from 7, Siege Magic from 16, and effective weapons like the Horsekiller or just bows in general have a lot more relevance because of triple MT compared to FE7's 2x Mt and wvyern spam. You get status staves starting from 10, Warp in 14, Hammerne in 15, Rescue in 16 and more statboosters to distribute. The problem is of course durability is a worthless mechanic but the saving grace unlike all the other games is you need to kept your legendary weapons at least and not waste them. Just compare the stats, the difference is insane.

FE7bab that went back and played 6 after gaining an appreciation for the series. It fucking sucked. The units were so unbelievably bad, they had awful growths, and they just gave you so many of them to throw at the enemy as fodder because they all sucked. Even the lord of the game blows ass and promotes so late that he's a liability more often than not.
I think if anything a remake of FE6 could do it some justice. Trimming the anime-filler-character-level of trash from the roster, giving the remaining units respectable bases/growths and character development, and making Roy not dog shit.

Dorcas is passable due to his alright bases and the fact FE7 is lanceland with most enemies being white slow, but he isn’t really a long term unit.
Dart isn’t too difficult to train (can easily rack up some levels in the gaiden chapter), but the Ocean Seal is worth a fortune and Hawkeye is quite good already. Dart is still alright, but that money can be better used elsewhere.
No efficient player is going to dedicate 28x to grinding Nino to promotion.
Rebecca and Wil have their uses in earlygame, but archers are very underwhelming in FE7. They don’t even get the triple effectiveness here.
Lyn’s Mani Katti utility is useful for her first few chapters, but she has an annoying time later due to all the lances FE7 has.
Heath is definitely not weaker than Florina and Fiora, and he joins with nice HM bonuses and grows pretty fast. Due to to his flight and movement, training him is much more beneficial than it would be for a unit like Dart or Guy.
Vaida requires no investment and is a solid lategame unit.
Marcus tears earlygame apart, and as said before, most FE7 enemies aren’t very fast. Even at base level, he’s useful for 90% of the game.
