Because your speed isn't 80+
Your first playthrough will be slow because you won't know all the fast travel routes or have spells or items to go fast, or know a bunch of other stuff, but once you git gud you can move around faster in this game than literally any other open world game, even from pretty early on. You're probably just baiting though.

The world is actually pretty small and is sparse in between locations so they used slow walk speed to try to get you in combat with the various creatures to make it feel alive
Either use a mod or use console commands to up your speed/athletics to 100

Honestly you will never move at a decent speed in this game. Even when taking the Steed and using the boots of blinding speed you still move at a sluggish pace when running. Just play Daggerfall or Oblivion instead, they're actually enjoyable to play and aren't glorified wikias of their settings.

Not him, but I asked around on their discord and apparently the OpenMW devs have some kind of an agenda/prejudice towards MWSE and will not include its features because it's apparently a "dirty hack" and their lua scripting engine is going to be so much better (and incompatible with all current MWSE mods lmao).

I'm on both discords anons. It's just hate all around from both sides. The base engine side hates that OpenMW is being referred to as "the standard" because those devs push new players to use it. New players using it makes less people use MWSE and that means less people make mods for it.
People who only use openmw from the start end up loving it more because that's how everything works. First is always the favored and they end up making openmw exclusive mods.
As for the other side openmw users whine when it's not compatible with openmw and that's annoying as fuck too. And to your lua point they recently said they'll aim to make it compatible but Vanilla engine + MWSE + MGXE is really just a bunch of dirty hacks which is true. Having it all on the base engine would be better.
While we are on the subject of OpenMW does it actually have 64bit and multicore support?
