It was a mod before 1.6, you could switch to it from Half-Life's "custom game" menu. With 1.6 it became a standalone Steam game.

All the above mods were great. I loved Natural Selection and Sven Coop.
I wish Natural Selection 2 was as crazy as Natural Selection 1.
Rebuilding an entire base in the vent system, HMG/Heavy Armor train CHOO CHOO, gorge rush, and a ton of other crazy shit. really stupid and really fun.

The only one I can think of was the C&C Renegade which has been dead for years, although some group did remake that game in unreal engine but I can't remember the name. It was pretty good and might still be populated. Might've been RenegadeX
