Proper VR will turn the world around and give people experiences they didn't earn. It will also be a new golden age of MMOs.
>implying VR was ever a thing
vr is a stupid dead meme and nothing else
>gnn b-but vr will be great one day
based
The real brainlet is you, poorfag.
I only use it for one thing.
When TV was first shown in 1930's everyone thought it was a dumb meme that was going to go nowhere. When the iPhone came out in 2006 everyone thought it was a stupid meme and having a phone that did other things besides making calls was stupid and unnecessary.
New tech always start out too expensive and pointless in its initial infancy, however by testing it out and making changes overtime they slowly become the norm. You're right about VR being pointless to buy NOW but the point is Valve and Facebook are playing the long game.
vr was already stupid at first but they had to fucking add stupid ass wiimotes too
Actual manchilds
Maybe. I prefer to be optimistic about the future.
>iPhone came out in 2006 everyone thought it was a stupid meme
No they didn’t moron zoomer who wasn’t there
>p-poorfag haha, rekt
enjoy your 900$ trash, don't forget to dust it from time to time
its inevitable that it will be great and super realistic one day
downside is that we're all gonna be dead for a long time before that happens
I want to be the loli!
When will technology catch up to every mans dream?
vr believers tried to push vr for decades
it's still as much of a joke as it was back then
stop trying to justify your mistake
This.
People are extremely impatient with VR (and most other cool developing tech). The answer is not years, but decades. VR is going to be the #1 form of entertainment on the planet by 2060, guaranteed.
So what can you play on VR?
Only 6 years old trash that wasn’t designed around it?
Niiice, lmao, enjoy going blind soon.
kill yourself you disgusting fag
>downside is that we're all gonna be dead for a long time before that happens
how so? just look at how technology developed over the last 20 years. who knows what there is going to be in 20 years
Most people were blown away by the iPhone, but there was a loud minority who decried the lack of physical keyboard, among other things (2G internet, no video camera, etc).
>implying this world will still be alive by 2060
>grapes
Moore's Law. We're only a few nanometers from the absolute physical limit.
Basically our only real hope for lighting fast developments is if we reach an AGI breakthrough that invents everything for us.
No
>VR is going to be the #1 form of entertainment on the planet by 2060
hahahahaha
budget vr sets will happen eventually. the thought of colour 3d games on a mobile phone was laughable when i was a kid. it will be like in futurama and rick & morty where arcades and festivals will have vr booths if they don't already. wireless needs to be solved, the cables are a deal breaker for me
isnt quantum computers the next step?
that is always going to be porn user, from now until the great extinction
We can only hope
>t. double digit IQ who has yet to see the truth
mobile gaming is still a meme and so is vr
that's only cause of corporatism, the potential is there. phones can run games like ff7 just fine, quality of games isn't an argument
you can even play total war rome on your phone
>quality isn't an argument
kek
brainlet
>gnn poorfag
>vr will be everywhere in 20-30 years
>it's healthy to put a screen at 2 nanometers of my face
There's not enough hardware in the hands of users to push development of good games, so fewer users buy the hardware. Its a death spiral for sure
>b-but vr is the future
Moore's law is hitting its limits wrt straight processor clock speed, but parallelism is something we're really starting to wake up to. Wider data registers for faster SIMD programming is bringing incremental increase, plus the sort of processing we need for video games and VR is super easy to parallelise, GPU's aren't going to get throttled anywhere nearly as badly as cpus when we start to hit the limits of Moore's law.
Quantum computers are not simply the evolution of classical computers, they are complete game changers in some extremely specific niche cases, but in terms of video games and consumer tech I wouldn't count on using one in your lifetime.
i agree it's probably really fucked to do long term vr for eyes but i guess we will find out
I'm still using my Vive, ask me anything.
Name pls
price coming down solves that, it's still new tech, the dropping price will bring more first time users
>VR is dead!!
great maymay internet
the price of a headset could be $200 you still need ~$1000 worth of gear (at least) to get it setup to playable
not really a tech head, does the parralellisation you're talking about mean multithreading? devs don't seem to want to fuck with that, lazy cunts
how do you manage the amount of dust piling up on this thing
when do you plan to sell it
if VR is dead you can keep your consoles and mobile shit to yourself Yea Forums, I'll see myself out.
>comparing AAA sized games with meme experience "games" aka glorified tech demods
do you don't, you need about 90 frames a second right? make the games less visually impressive, stylised graphics like superhot, any gpu can run that shit at 90 fps or more. budget vr games will just be a bit behind in fidelity much like handhelds or nintendo, but nothing stops devs from also making the games scalable for people who do happen to have beast pc's
I really want to believe in VR. The idea of getting an actual first-person view in an immersive game sounds too good to pass up. Maybe in 10 years time they'll manage to make it affordable and actually dev a game for the damn thing, but right now that dream is dead. Right now VR is for party games and porn, but too expensive for normies, in other words dead in the water.
I still use it at the very least every other day. Had it for a year.
I've spent more on other gaming peripherals I don't use as often. Don't plan to sell anything.
God will return and take the earth before that happens. Probably within the next 10 years actually. Repent
do you need to regularly buy new face sweat things
I'm not comparing. I'm saying video games are fucking dead and VR is the last thing that actually demands some creativity from the devs and hardware/software progress.
Of course it's fucking dead/a meme if AAA devs no longer pretend they're making games they themselves would like to play.
How much of a backwards fucking retarded Neanderthal do you have to be to ever doubt conceptual technology?
Just because it's shit now it will always be shit?
I bet a retard like you would have gone apeshit arround the american videogame crash, telling everybody to not buy into the videogame meme.
Just pirated beat saber and lone echo, it's pretty great but gimmicky. Makes for very interesting experiences though. I would say it's nice to check it out if you have a buddy that has it.
Why? I don't run an arcade, I only let people I know use it. I just wash the face foam, it doesn't nearly get as ugly as a helmet/paintball mask either.
is pirating vr games any harder than normal? i thought oculus had some drm or some shit
was just wondering, as long as it's removable to wash that's fine. i imagine for people who aren't on camera to a stream with green screen lights aren't going to get as sweaty as the people on youtube using vr
They have their own software, but it's such a shitshow I wouldn't be surprised if pirating was overall easier and more optimized solution.
you can play the entire ps1 catalog. gran turismo 2 beats any racing game you can get on your phone
Yeah. Porn where you become the actor for a couple cents with STD free experience with a perfect manifestation of your desired sexual partner.
It's exactly the same as pirating something else. Usually they go with a fake steam app that handshakes with the oculus client. The only issue is with The Climb because it saves on the company's cloud so you can't save your progress if you pirate it. Still not buying a piece of software that needs a cloud of some kind to work, that's a retarded practice.
The only issue is that since VR is pretty niche you don't have as many seeders on torrents. I didn't find a torrent for Vanishing Realms for instance.
Yeah, it holds in place by a few small velcro patches. You can actually buy a wide range of different face cushions, I changed the stock foam one becasue it was soaking the sweat and it felt awful. I have some memory foam one that I just wipe with antibacterial wipes every other day.
>vr is like the Television, automobile smartphone you sourgrapes!
No, VR is like 3DTV and many other failed technologies that companies tried to to push hard. It's funny how VRfags are trying to equate VR with revolutionary technology that changed society, sorry to burst your bubble but you are not the early adopters of a revolutionary that will change the world, you are the early adopters of another iteration of trash that companies have been trying to make a thing for decades.
yeah but you can find most vr stuff on cs.rin
based
so sli is going to make a comeback at some point and cpus will have something similar?
VR is an improvement of 3DTV tho. And motion controls and other niche tech.
What potential was there in 3DTV? VR is more like handhelds in that regard - but right now it's looking like its a Vita.
please learn what focal length is before you speak on it
thanks user
Not too sure I want to join the russian botnet but thanks user
No one cares what some poorfag pseudo thinks
do you fucking dustbrain vrfag really think all conceptual tech will be successful?
vr is just another trash forced by the industry, of course its dead now
I prefer to be realistic about the future and not be a delusional idiot, but to each their own.
if it's so dead why do you care?
george derailing another thread
because mommy cant afford it and i live in a closet
cs.rin is pretty trusted but alright
if you ever need obscure games or vr stuff it's likely there
maybe because normie faggots won't shut up about it?
Can you pirate Cocculus games skipping their software though? I tried Revive once but OR software just didn't work.
No bona fide normie wants to wear an expensive blindfold and sit alone in his room. Want to see face of VR? See /vrg/. It's just ERPing closet fags that don't even talk about VR anymore.
try revive again, it got a lot of updates and should be working for everyone now
and you can force patch oculus games using revive so it's pretty cool
>has the automobile meme died yet
>has the cellphone meme died yet
>has the vr meme died yet
all the same mindset, all wrong
VR has already been adopted for industrial purposes and training in electrical engineering and medical industry
it's not going to die off with this level of investment (never seen before in history)
hahahaha
You VRfags are delusional retards. Technology is always killed by porn and military applications.
At the very least there will always be sim cucks that will buy VR
>b-b-b-but...
It's actually less expensive than most wheel set-ups, and don't even get me started on triple screens.
>buying a vr headet so you can have negative antialiasing and see the individual pixels on the screen
or
>buying actually good and enjoyable screens for a triple screen setup
hmmmm
What kind of degenerate would join a Yea Forums discord
Its nothing like 3DTV you massive retard, have you ever even tried using a VR headset?
I can't dispute that, as I've yet to try Odyssey+ or Vive Pro, but it's only natural those headsets will get better, especially that everyone seems to focus only on headsets nowadays.
>Yea Forums discord
It doesn't matter. Discords are inherently normie and anti-Yea Forums. Every bigger, public Discord is exactly the same.
Nailed it.
People forget the shit is in its infancy.
>see vr
>think its still a very tertiary/vanity medium for games/media
>only really interesting things i want to try are retrofitted ports of old PS2 games I love (Rez, ZoE2)
Maybe I'll get a cheap PSVR someday but I just don't see how so many people fell for this fad again
So why would you multiply the shit and stupidity by joining one full of people who think a Yea Forums discord is a good idea
You're guaranteed to get some high IQ guy to post a picture of Virtual Boy now.
Other high IQ guy will say VR is a meme because it's not Matrix SAO full dive.
where is the vr content tho
aren't you tired of the same shitty tech demos?
That pic was posted in their general nerd.
Imagine misaing out of the first generation of VR lmao oh well. At least you'll get to try it when it's been sterilized and saying a bad word into the mic results in an instant toxicity ban. Oh well, don't worry anout it Pedro. Go milk the goats or bang some rocks together or whatever you do.
A bit, I've picked up game dev thanks to that tho.
On the other hand, how many retards have thousands of hours clocked into a single game like CS:GO or some other shit?
A handful of games allows user created content, some games have modded VR support, emulators even.
There's always simulators or some shooter. Nobody buys VR to play Gorn every day.
That's the picture of the average VR user
imagine buying a vr headset so you can call people niggers in vrchat
i have a PSVR
surgeon simulator is pretty fun
It's not you're missing anything. I've bought VR moments before Beat Saber was out, and it blew my mind people didn't even have that for a year.
The only thing you might have missed out on is comfy VRChat before Knuckles/Normies killed it, but VRChat is grade A janky trash, so again - you're not missing much, you have maybe 2 months worth of content to catch up and then you start playing a few of the games that don't suck.
> Is the vr meme finally over
Aready was a year or even two ago. When there were no significant VR games on E3 2018, you should have understood it.
They really needed to create some sort of stabilization for camera and eye tracking in vr games, because sharp movements is not how we percieve images in reality.
You track things with minor eye movement irl without realizing it - VR cant do it, have to turn head. Your muscles, your eyes and your brain smooth and stabilize the image with your every movement so you have a good cohesive image, while VR creates experience similar to a drunk filming something on an old mobile phone.
I'm actually playing PSVR games without the headset on. They're often better that way.
Yeah, nah, never noticed that - it feels like I'm wearing my scuba mask, so my vision is narrowed down.
how to spot people who never used a vr headset
There's always this one guy that complains about wagglan and says he wants to play with a controller.
> When the iPhone came out in 2006 everyone thought it was a stupid meme and having a phone that did other things besides making calls was stupid and unnecessary.
iPhone didnt do shit back then, that was the real problem. By 2007(when it actually came out) there were shitton of smartphones and communicators, that did pretty much what phones are capable of today. Just not so smooth and with smaller screens. Nokia N-Series, Windows Mobile.
Make photos, browse the web, play games, install apps, etc.
What did iphone have?
Video recording? nope. Third-party apps? nope. Decent camera with flash? nope. Multitasking? nope. Copy&paste? nope. Downloading even a single image? nope. Uploading anything? nope. Changing background image? nope.
You can call, use sms, browse the crippled net and buy music in itunes. So smart. Had sleek interface though, and huge hype. That made it.
iPhones became really good only with release of 4.
Onward is pretty great except for the LARPfags that treat it like the actual military
mobile gaming is anything but meme. also vr is cheap as fuck. you can buy a wmr headset for 150$ during sells and google earth alone makes it worth it.
There are two types of computing tasks. Those that must be done in sequence (for example, physics simulation is an example of a task that is inherently serial: you can't start simulating what happens at t=2 before you've figured out state of t=1, although that problem can perhaps be split to sub-tasks that you run simultaneously), and those can be split to smaller tasks that you can run simultaneously (in parallel). For example, general intelligence is an example of a task that can take full advantage of parallelization: humans are generally intelligent despite brains running at pathetic 200Hz, thanks to enormous parallelization of billions of neurons. Rendering is another example: broadly speaking calculating the color of pixel x=1 y=1 can be done independently of pixel x=1 y=2, and so on.
Most tasks can be parallelized, but it's non-trivial: if you think about Chess engine investigating a certain line of moves in multiple threads and one discovers a forced mate by the opponent, it must communicate this result to the other threads so they can start investigating lines that aren't futile. This gets increasingly difficult if these processes use shared resources (for example, in a bank's database it would be disastrous if two processes read the account's balance, and one updates the balance to old balance + $100, followed up by another increasing the balance it previously had read by +$5: the guy just lost $95).
wiimotes is what turn vr from dumb gimmick into THE REAL SHIT
oh wait, I missed him.
>and google earth alone makes it worth it.
Ive used that shit once for like 10 minutes to find nice local driving roads with gradient.
90% of my time is spent playing games and I play a few hours a day.
>google earth alone makes it worth it.
Ehhh, if you buy something without controllers and cheaper than Vive maybe.
The only thing VR is missing to leave meme status is functional and not stupidly noisy/bulky mats to let people walk, and a little amount of haptic feedback, just gloves for starter would be enough.
Don't underestimate the speed at which tech is evolving today. VR golden age will be here before you know it.
great explanation. have you read superintelligence? i think that books mentions a lot of this stuff and i did read it but the details went a bit over my head
> and most other cool developing tech
It uses the same tech as any other modern digital device. Slap lenses in front of a smartphone screen, wow, VR.
Dont imagine it is something completely different from what we already had. You are under illusion of "constant unstoppable progress, if you put X time and effort into anything it will improve for sure" created by rapid growth in capabilities of silicon semiconductor tech. That was an exception and some paths of development already hit the wall of physical limitations.
The book by Nick Bostrom? Yes.
>can look but can't touch
seems more like torture to me
>. Slap lenses in front of a smartphone screen, wow, VR.
>sending signal up down from pc to two screens with different camera angles to get convincing physical space
>registering hmd and controller location in 3d space using two standalone laser beacons that dont communicate with pc
>doing all that at extremely low latency and being portable and affordable
its pretty neat tech.
Part of the charm is fooling your senses. A warm dakimakura really goes a long way when VR cuddling.
Everyday before I go to sleep I smoke a lot of weed and watch sissy gay brainwash hypno on my Occulus while masturbating with an Aneros
Thing is, plenty of VR gimmicks has been pushed for decades, i guess TV is the closest example, but iPhone was a success the first time got released IIRC.
Right now VR owners are increasing, but it's very slow, maybe in 20 more years.
Can I fuck you?
>When the iPhone came out in 2006 everyone thought it was a stupid meme and having a phone that did other things besides making calls was stupid and unnecessary.
Have you noticed how zoomers actually think iPhone was the first smartphone and all phones before that were like Nokia 3310?
>just look at how technology developed over the last 20 years. who knows what there is going to be in 20 years
eh, thinner phones and more ads everywhere?
FUCKING INTERDIMENSIONAL ALIENS, OR ELVES AS I LIKE TO CALL THEM
no I have a wife
Maybe AR glasses will join the smart[x] family the same way smartwatches/other items did, and that's it.
Damn, it was worth a shot
maybe I can be your wife tonight?
Quitter.
>smartwatches
I bought one but haven't put it on for a month or so because it's useless
Why the fuck do you think it's over? It's the most exciting thing about video games currently.
>initial infancy
where's the subsequent infancies
I need to speak with these elves maaan
I can't wait until we have MR headsets that are super comfy, not fashionable eyesores, strong enough for real vidya and applicable use, and available under payment plans like smart phones currently are. Everyone will start to have one so they can browse the internet in their peripheral vision on public transit, play video games outside in the sun, etc.
It's pretty handy if you have at least one use for it like counting steps. Having notifications on your hand is also pretty good, quality of sleep and heartbeat monitoring also comes in handy.
Smartband might be enough for those, but fuck I also want a watch on top of it, and I'm not wearing two devices or using something you have to tap to read the hour.
Kuyashi.
after the first one has been aborted.
Why kuyashii?
Imagine a stacy sitting in front of you watching memes on her MR. She bursts into laughter looking in your general direction.
People sure do get passionate about being angry about VR, really makes you think
I'm playing a video game with big titty mods installed so I don't notice.
yeah nah that's outlawed.
I recently bought vive and am quite impressed with it
Literally the single big issue is AAA devs not making vr games
I'm fine with indies, but other than the H3VR fag, most games don't even get updates. They've made all the framework to reach meme EA status, and it's like they blew they load that instant and need a refractory period of a couple years.
Look at VRChat, system seller that gets glorified hotfixes as updates, and it breaks stuff more often than not. It holds together with duct tape and memes and the devs are sitting praying to HTC's bux that nothing better comes around. And it doesn't! The absolute mad market!
Tried VR porn via XHamster and a few of those other preview sites.
As long as you get the proper stereoscopic type of video, it'll blow your minds
Videos are a meme though, try something 3D like VR Kanojo or Honey Select. You can't imagine the fun of actually lining up with the outline and getting all sorts of angles on your waifu.
Standing above Riju while I riled her from behind and seeing her two plump, brown buttocks where my dick is the best.
Also check out Monster Girl Island demos. They are very in your face with Ice Tits and choking shark girls and slime girls shoving their butts up your face.
One scene starts with some Halloween succubus loli doing 69 with you and you can almost feel the musk of her panties on your face.
This. I regretted buying my Rift until I discovered there was one thing it was good for.
If porn is literally the only thing you use your VR for, then I pity your life.
The VR meme gimmick fad actually is over by now!
Is there even a decent amount of fetish porn available for VR?
Pathetic play, VR turd
No. It's all vanilla POV shit, and 3D games that get stale faster than a cum soaked towel. ERPing in VRChat needs you to have at least 20% of your brain damaged to be enjoyable
>He fell for the VR meme
What else am I supposed to fall for? Everything's boring shit. This one at least had some novelty going for it.
Man I miss those comfy VRChat webms from one year ago. Nowadays everyone and his mother has some eyesore abomination with shaders that fuck up your vision and FPS, and you can't tell if people are ironic or are we already way past Sanic OC donut steel tier of user "created" content.
Guess it's tough to fall for memes when you got no money to buy theme eh? That's something you can be proud of
I turn off shaders, particles and sound effects for everyone but my friends, fuck those attention whoring faggots
The problem with VR is the performance.
If we could, we'd simply strap a 8k display to each eye and it would look much better, along with less lag ofc and something like 240hz.
But that's simply impossible right now.
>vr failed
>vr is dying
Glad I got in early enough to enjoy the wild frontier a bit before the normalfags swarm in and destroy it
>When there were no significant VR games on E3 2018
But Fucculus literally showcased a AAA VR title they bankrolled at E3 2018...
