Honestly, none of the last three generations had all that great starter Pokemon. At least not their basis firm. I can't even remember what they looked like in Pokemon USUM and I played Sun and Ultra Moon. And I doubt I could remember XY if not for the Smashbros representation (havent played Ultimate that much, but I just remembered that it also has a Gen 7 rep).

It isn't impressive at all. Gamefreak has made the exact same game for over 20 years now. People bitch all the time about Ass Creed, Cawdooty, or other games having releases that don't change anything, but Pokemon does that except way worse. Not to mention saying "They have less than 150 employees" is retarded because Pokemon is the largest (Or at least one of) franchises on earth. They could get more people and actually put in effort, but it's too much work. Just like Valve. It is pure laziness.

I could see that. Then again, with SM they apparently tried to do more in parallel and were retarded about it. All of the cutscenes and maps have their own copies of all models that will appear in them. There are dozens of Lillie models in the files , presumably because they had a bunch of different artists making the cutscenes and just kept them all self contained rather than have them share resources. It's hard to say what would happen if they hired 100 animators and told each one "go animate 9 pokemon."
