They probably thought it would only get in the way whilst producing the games, but honestly it just makes the situation less relatable or interesting.

And it isn't like the fans ever asked for much at all. They just wanted the occasional tease of romance or happiness in a series predominantly saturated with horror, action and extreme violence dehumanising everything. There is such a thing as all spice and no sugar when properly balancing aspects of your game design after all. That extends to your genera plot as well.
